I hope it´s a rumour too because it sounds pretty awful, but I´m faily sure that an officer suspecting drug use is enough reason to test someone here in Sweden. I wouldn´t swear on it though.

I hope it's a rumour too Although I think they are allowed to conduct a drug test just for suspecting drug use, they definitely are not allowed to do so in a manner that resembles sexual harrassment. If the rumour about what they did to Caroline W is true, then she could definitely sue them for sexual harrassment regarding the manner in which the drug test was carried out, and even for gross misuse of police authority in the process

There was definitely an incident recently where Caroline was subjected to a drug test in a Stockholm nightclub. Caroline was quoted in the papers, but of course they like to mis-quote and exaggerate, so...

Anyway, to sum up the story:

Caroline: I was sitting with my friends when a policeman came up to me and brought me to a room upstairs where two other male officers were waiting. They told me I looked high and suggested that drugs are common in the fashion business. I've never been so humiliated in my life. I had to leave a urine sample, but I was not allowed to go to the bathroom alone, the policemen stood there watching the whole time.
The test came out negative. Caroline was in tears and went straight home, and says she'll never go clubbing in Stockholm again.

The police spokesman: Of course we don't humiliate anyone on purpose. But when we perform a drug test we need to supervise the person so he or she won't destroy the sample.
On why the police chose to test Caroline Winberg [of all people]:
- There must have been a legitimate suspicion of narcotics crime. But I cannot comment on individual cases.

It happens, I guess. But I'm not really the person to ask. I've barely set foot in the "hip" clubs around Stureplan, where Caroline was tested and any drug razzias are likely to take place, for the past few years. And I'm guessing unannounced drug testing has become more common lately.
