Roland Mouret for GAP

Is there any accompanying description about the dress or the collection(?)? *desperate*

There are some military style dresses as well and a black dress with large buttons down the back. It's only 6 dresses (not counting the green version of the one pictured)

Kind of sad, really that he'd have to resort to doing something at GAP. And why the mystery about it? Is it that embarassing for him?

The mystery part I'd guess has to do with the fact that he nolonger owns his own name.. so GAP would probably get in a lot of trouble if they used his name in connection with the capsule collections "campaign" ?

yes hanne...of course...
it's a tricky thing not to be able to use one's own name...
i wounder if he could change it legally by like one letter...
and be rolande mouret...?

:p

what i don't get is why it was only in the UK?
gap is an american company...
that seems odd...:ermm:

Gap UK is a seperate company, the stock isn't the same. They're also currently building a seperate design division, so it was probably a sort of trial.

So now there's a version of the dress, which is just a top, in some other colours. They still look a bit like you're going ice skating in them. I had a flip through the preview for the fall lookbook, it actually looks nice for once. I guess that's the first part of the new design team. Loads of big name Danish models in it.

Wow...I wonder if this is part of Gap's strategy to overhaul its image? Or since this is the UK company...could it be a UK massclusivity move?

well the product lines aren't completely different to the US. I don't know why I missed this topic before though. As for sizing, honestly Gap is one of the few brands that I find consistantly fits me. I can go and pick something up without having to try it on whereas with any other highstreet store (topshop, oasis, etc. etc.) it's so hit or miss for me. Maybe I have an american shaped body

^Meg, you're lucky then - I find Gap sizing REALLY inconsistent - the dresses are always super baggy even if you get a size 0 but then the shirts are too tight! Very odd........

the dresses are an exception for me....I just find the torso REALLY long (but then again I'm 5'2!). I was wearing a gap dress yesterday in a really beautiful green but the top part is SO baggy on me it makes me think of a person who has lost a lot of weight and now has excess skin  Still, I love Gap because I can go there, find cheapo stuff on clearance and their stuff generally fits quite well on my oddly shaped body.

I'd imagine so, there's gonna be a £78 cashmere top, and merino sweaters on mens soon.

ROLAND MOURET – for Gap? The first result of Mouret's collaboration with Simon Fuller, 19RM, is in – and it's a line of designs for Gap. With Viktor & Rolf polishing up their new designs for H&M ready for launch in November and Kate Moss rumoured to be designing for TopShop, a line of ten dresses (priced between £45 - £78), from the man who created the Galaxy dress will put Gap in the running for plenty of cash come November 7, when they are due to go on sale in the UK and France. Even better, three of Mouret's designs will be sold as part of the Gap (PRODUCT) RED collection - 50 per cent of the profits they generate will go to The Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria that was set up by Bono and Bobby Shriver earlier this year. "I was interested in the opportunity to make my designs available to a broader audience and was particularly excited about the Gap (PRODUCT) RED involvement," Mouret said this morning. "This initiative is so important and Gap has given me the opportunity to be able to translate my ideas in a more casual sensibility and at the same time help raise funds that will target the Aids pandemic in Africa. This is my first project as 19RM." (September 18 2006, AM)

That limited collection of dresses for Gap that they had in the summer was ghost-designed by Mouret but now it's official.

thanks susie..
i don't know how i am feeling about all this mass market stuff...
it always sounds good in theory...
but then i don't like it much in store...

didn't see the dresses over the summer though....
were they available in the US?......

^No... it wasn't. I gather this collection won't be available in the US either.
Apparently, Gap have now officially divided their design teams into US and Europe to cater for the two different markets....heard it from the Gap ppl.

You're right, I didn't like those dresses that were supposedly so great.... they looked terrible instore. Perhaps the autumn/winter collection will fare better.

i don't like that either...
i don't like that i can't get the same stuff at the gap that you can in the UK...
especially since it is an AMERICAN brand!!!...

time to boycott the GAP!!!...:judge:...

Will be harder for me to avoid the damn collection since it will def. be all over Heat magazine or something.....

Gap's American design team is the worst. They have better, much better, design for Japanese market.

I don't like these designer/chain store collaborations. I think those are two things that need to be kept separated.

i like the ethical 'message'
but ..Mouret for GAP sounds like a surreal joke to me..

he's so much not a sportswear/casual designer, its such a shame..

susie, thanks for the newsbit :flower:
