You should wear simple dark-colored clothes, don't wear colorful or falshy things. Wear blue/black jeans.
Go to the agencies without make up ,put your hair back
and put your highest shoes on.

Good luck :flower:

How could a girl (not even a model yet) make scouts recognice and remember her during a casting? ^_^ only being yourself doesn't always work when there are 100 other beautiful girls :ninja:

You really can't "make" a booker or a scout remember you. They know what they are looking for, as far as the "look" goes ... and they make an instant decision ... that either you fit their needs and have the "look" then want at that moment, you you don't. If they think that you might be of interest they will probably talk to you and maybe take a polaroid of you to see how you look on film. If they don't do that, you can pretty much move on to the next open call.

Has nothing to do with being "pretty" or "beautiful" either. Pretty girls don't make the best models ... some of the ugliest girls make the most money as models because they have a face that can be made into whatever the client needs. It has to do with bone structure, height, build, being photogenic and having the "look" of the moment. That is why they prefer to see you with out much makeup, if any and your hair pulled back.

You have to be interesting ,you have to need something what they really like ,all have to be perfect for them ,a new fresh looking they look ;)

sorry....I tried to edit that. The thread is actually for castings but it would probably apply to open calls too.

Referring to another message:
It's not recommended nor usual for a girl from Europe or the Americas to try to join directly an agency in Asia and especially in China. The usual way is to let her mother agency handle that, it's also less risky especially as there are many new "agencies" in China we don't know anything about. Further once back home only an agency will be able to handle all those problems related to payments and other paperwork. There are also further good reasons to have a good mother agency,

For open calls just keep it simple. Basic clothing, no prints nor obvious logos, just plain basic colors. It's also important that the clothes show well the form of the body.

Avoid flashy colors. Black and white are not ideal for shooting polaroids, due contrast problems it can be hard to see the form of the body but it depends on the lighting conditions, the camera and the person who takes the snapshots. A neutral grey or so is probably better.

No or, if you insist, only a very basic light makeup. Bring some scrunchies to tie your hair up as well as heels. Bring or wear a simple plain swimsuit.

Don't lie about your age, stats etc. as you'll be measured anyway. Also bring an official ID.

Don't worry, just be yourself. Listen and answer questions but there's no need for long explanations.

Don't bring pics unless you've very good polaroids and/or good tests but it's very unlikely that a beginner has anything interesting to show. I mean interesting from a professional POV, i.e. of publishable ad or editorial quality (and most girls are unable to assess that anyway).

I know it has often been mentioned but it's still a widespread misconception that aspiring fashion models need to test (and pay for them) even before visiting their first agency.
Best is to let the agency handle those points, they know best what the need for each girl.
The usual way is that the agency organizes some tests to start a book. In some cases a girl may even be asked to do a test (and pay for it but only a reasonable amount) even before the agency decides. It's just important that the agency is legit.

Don't expect much from Internet pseudo-modeling à la Modelmayhem, in most cases you'll end with totally useless pics (if any and further you can't really control where your pics end). If you really want to feel once like a model pay an experienced photographer (+Makeup Artist + Hair etc.)... if you can afford it.

Thanks Blunier and ModelMom :)

Once you're there you should add some more agencies to visit ;)
About your clothes choice: Just wear what makes you feel comfortable! Don't choose any clothes only for this day, choose what you usually prefer to wear ;)
Good luck :flower:

Thanks, will let you know how it goes...won't be for two weeks until I can get up to them :)

What is a realistic price to pay for photos/makeup/hair? I have been told $250usd. Is this correct or to high? Is photoshopping/retouching the pictures the norm?

Sorry, meant to say for one look, not multiple looks and we do not get all the pics just the one that's been photoshopped.

I don't know what kind of photos you are talking about?
I guess you mean pictures for an application at an agency, right?
If that is the case, I would advise you to take just basic and non-retouched photos of yourself because agencies are not able to make use of professional pictures for the simple reason that you don't look on these shots like you look in real life. Don't waste you money for such a thing.

Your photos should look like these :flower:
