The H&M Thread

maybe someone knows when clothes by Rykiel for h&m will be in stores in Sweden?

So could we do a little unofficial poll please?

Who here would be willing to stand in line before the doors open on the 20th for Rykiel?

i think H&M deliberately keeps its low-wage floor workers ignorant.
probably the only ones who know whats coming are the visual merchandisers and floor managers.

H&M is stupid.

boston is one of the biggest markets for sonia rykiel. we have our own sonia rykiel store (its one of two in the country). it does an enormous business.

and the sonia rykiel collection will not be at H&M here.

who is making all this stupid business decisions?

Is this collection not exactly like the last one she did for H&M, where it is also stocked in Sonia Rykiel boutiques all around the world?

And I highly doubt it's a stupid business decision. Being that they no doubt fully researched where the collection should launch, and where it would infact sell best.

The SA's don't have to know every piece on the floor (obviously that's not possible), but surely some knowledge of those few that are featured in the lookbook isn't unreasonable to expect. I'm not blaming the SA's though - it's the company that's not arming them with the tools they need. The solution could be as simple as posting up the lookbook photos in the staff room so the SA's are at least familiar with them. Even if they can't say when the pieces will be arriving, they can at least give a definitive answer as to whether they were already in and sold out or are hiding on a rack around the corner.

You have a point. I work part time at H&M (12 hrs), and I So I never what new stock we have in until I've tidied the floor. We also never get the lookbook at an appropriate time. I've seen the magazine uploaded on here before they've even bothered to deliver it to our store. The only people who really know about present and future stock are the Visual merchandisers.

H&M is more on par with Forever21 which has the same lack thereof.

Actually, I've had positive experiences with Forever 21. Recently I was looking for a top in store that I originally saw on their website. They asked me for the item #, which was on the website, and they checked to see if they had it in stock. They didn't, but they told me to check back again in a week or so because the site often stocks new stuff before the store does. They were surprisingly very helpful!

I'm considering getting up early to stand in line on the 20th, but I'm not sure if anyone else in Toronto is. I don't want to be the only idiot out in the cold!

that's because H&M doesn't have a system to check whats left in stock. it doesn't exist.

and they do know what days they get shipment (major cities might get it everyday and others like mine get it 3x a week)

not everyone knows what's in because they do have a lot of part timers who aren't there enough to know what's in stock.

i have had more negative experiences at f21 than H&M

I've never had a bad experience with an assistant when I was asking for something. They even don't hesitate to call another store for you asking whether the item you want is in stock or left in your size. Try to that at Mango. They're going to give you the finger... :ninja:

Back t the cloths... I finally received my order today and I'm so in love it all. The parka is amazing! :woot:

I don't get the backlash on H&M SA's.

Okay, I had a problem once or twice but those persons were rude and that unfortunately can happen anywhere, mass market or high-end stores.

Most of the people working there are young, students and/or work part-time on low wages, and if for some, it's the love of fashion driving them to get a job at H&M or Zara and so on, I think for most it's a temporary mean to survive.

H&M like Zara are the equivalent to McDonald's. You don't go there expecting a real service like in a restaurant. You go there, get what you want and leave.

These stores don't have a customer politic and they don't care to.

i'm also talking about this recent spate of "image" problems H&M is having (ie selling leaded items that are illegal and harmful to people, selling clothing falsely labeled organic and duping consumers, union-busting in new york, destroying leftover clothes and dumping them in public etc)

I love the rose patterned bedding! I wish we had the homeware stuff in the UK. :(

In regards to media image:
As far as I know, the 'destroying leftover clothes' was a singular, isolated event, highlighted by-one- outlet store in the US. I sort of got OMGWTFBBQzz when the general consensus automatically overused the example of one screwed up store and applied it across the entire retail chain. It's just another reason why media should always be met with criticism, scrutiny and logical analysis. Or at least why I always believe the media can misconstrue with information depending on how it's worded.

Maybe I'd be more inclined to believe it if the store wasn't offering their earlier collections on the online webshop in the sale section all the time.

I do thing their decision to not promote the line where it is most prominently sought to be a pretty questionable move, but personally- if I were a fanatic and something wasn't available to me in my local country (hello h&m in its entirety) I'd be more likely to source the item externally and not bother returning it. (dear luggage; whyforsofullofH&M?)
