The Official Harry Potter Thread

I thought the split would have been with them getting caught by the snatchers. It would have been a really intense ending.

But I also thought it would be Greyback catching them with Harry saying the taboo and then him going "come out with your hands up" or "what happened to you ugly" with a evil smile black screen.

(the main reason I thought it would end there though is because Helena said in an interview that she was only going to be in Part 2).

^They were originally going to split the film when they get caught by the snatchers, but they changed it at the last minuted.

That's probably why Helena said that.

Some news about Deathly Hallows box office thus far:

"Harry Potter" still king of the world
Sun, 28 Nov 18:20 PM EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Harry Potter led the worldwide box office for a second weekend on Sunday, but the heroic boy wizard had a close shave with a hairy princess in North America.

The seventh movie in the hit franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1," sold $163.5 million worth of tickets globally, led by a $50.3 million haul in the United States and Canada, distributor Warner Bros. said.

Of the 62 foreign markets, the best score came from France, where the film opened at No. 1 with $19.1 million -- the country's best start of the year. After two weekends the worldwide total stands at about $610 million.

But the fearless schoolboy almost lost his North American crown to Rapunzel, the hirsute heroine in the new Walt Disney Co 3D cartoon "Tangled." The fairy tale earned $49.1 million for the three days, far exceeding industry forecasts.

Along with three other films, "Tangled" opened on Wednesday, one day ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving Day holiday, giving it a five-day total of $69 million. Pundits had forecast a five-day haul of about $40 million.

Disney distribution president Chuck Viane said the film played strongly with families, and many little girls dressed up as princesses for the occasion.

Internationally, "Tangled" earned $13.8 million after opening at No. 1 in six of seven markets. Russia led the way with $7.5 million, a record for a Disney cartoon. It adds eight markets next weekend, including France and Italy. Pop singer/actress Mandy Moore voices the heroine.

MEN PREFER 'THE ROCK' OVER NUDE HATHAWAY

The other three new releases all performed to the expectations of their respective studios.

"Burlesque," a musical starring Cher and Christina Aguilera, shared the No. 4 spot with the three-week-old action movie "Unstoppable," each reporting about $11.8 million for the three-day period.

The $55 million musical will be "a real moneymaker," said Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony Corp's Sony Pictures, which released the film through its Screen Gems division.

Women accounted for 69 percent of the audience, and 54 percent of moviegoers were aged 25 or older. But Bruer said the men who went along enjoyed it.

"Love and Other Drugs," a $30 million romantic comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, followed at No. 6 with $9.9 million. Even though Hathaway has a much-discussed nude scene, the film also played mostly to older women, said News Corp-owned 20th Century Fox.

Male youngsters got their fix with "Faster," an action thriller starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The film drove in at No. 7 with $8.7 million. It was distributed in North America by CBS Corp's CBS Films, which split the $24 million production tab with international rights holder Sony.

The five-day total for "Burlesque" stands at $17.2 million, for "Love and Other Drugs" at $14 million, and for "Faster" at $12.2 million. Both "Love" and "Burlesque" will begin their international rollouts just before Christmas.

The new "Harry Potter" film is off to the strongest start in the series, having earned $220.4 million in North America since opening November 19. The previous film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," had earned $201 million during the same 10-day span in July 2009. That film ended up with $302 million domestically, and Time Warner Inc-owned Warner Bros. was similarly confident the new film would break $300 million.

The foreign total stands at $389.2 million. Top markets include Britain with $53.5 million, Germany with $37 million, Japan with $35 million, and Australia with $25 million.

From SS..

After the end of The Woman in Black, Dan still has two weeks of reshoots for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II epilogue later this month, along with costars Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Bonnie Wright, Tom Felton, Jade Gordon, and their on-screen children. Shortly after the new year, Dan will be heading to New York City to begin rehearsals for the Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which will open in March.

I think during the DH1 promos, some mentioned it was too rushed..

^I loved the epilogue in the book. I never understood why some people didn't like it.

Considering all Harry and his friends have been through, I think it was nice to see everyone living such normal lives 19 years later.
Loved it! I'm just worried about how they will portray it on-screen, especially since the 20 year old actors are playing 37 year old adults.

Some box office updates:

Deathly Hallows has now grossed about 713 million worldwide putting it in the top 50 highest grossing films of all time. It still hasn't been released in several countries, so it's on track to cross the billion mark by the end of it's box office run. :)

I thought the epilogue was cute but incredibly cheesy. I dont have my hopes up that high for the scene in the movie, it can be amazing or all wrong. But according to the photos we've seen so far, they casted fitting actors to play the kids and I hope Ron, Harry, Hermione and Ginny wont look ridicilous, as they tried to age them :)

only the one with scenes from both parts (the first trailer for deathly hallows was for both parts in general), but there's no trailer out just for the second part yet. i doubt we'll get that before the first part stopped playing at the theaters

definitely!!!
maybe the first 2 will seem very childish to you, but even those are so charming, they're more than worth reading and there's some info in those you'll need for the last book
i think it's never to late to start reading them, they're much more detailed than the movies and there are so many great characters and plots that have been cut out of the movies...please give them a shot!

I have one more question:D : Are the books worth reading?

The books are brilliant. Some of the best books I've read!

I'm very hard to please when it comes to literature, so I'm not just saying this because I'm a fan.

The movies are great, but there's SO much information and subplots that couldn't be fit into 2 and 1/2 hour movies.

The writing is spectacular. JK Rowling truly has a gift when it comes to description...you can just see the world unfold as you read each line.
The amount of detail she provides is almost unmatched, because she writes it in a way that makes the story flow so well.
You look up two hours later and you've already read like 8 chapters and you still can't put it down.

I don't think I've ever taken longer than 2 days to read one of those books.

So, yeah...they're definitely worth reading. It's hard to put into words how awesome those books are, but hopefully I can convince you. :D

I have one more question:D : Are the books worth reading?

books are the worth things than movie!

you know you can imagine lots of things when you read some book especially harry potter, and also there's some detail part that didn't show up in their movie.

I have one more question:D : Are the books worth reading?

oh the books are superb!

They give you so much information, emotions, sub plots, characters, feelings that the movies couldn't.

JK Rowling is brilliant too. Each book grows just like the characters. By the last book, I was breaking out a dictionary!

please read them and share us your thoughts! :flower:^_^

you guys convinced me! I'm going to read them. Thanks so much for taking time and convincing me:D

I havent seen the 6, and havent read the 7th... But I saw the last movie monday night, and it was totally awesome! It sticks out from the 6 first ones, obviously since they arent at school anymore so its not in the same tone. But the action was great, even though at one point it started slowing down. From the start I got into it, you could totally feel that something huge was coming. And I also loved the different landscapes it so pretty. :)

I NEED TO READ THE 7th!! I can't wait to see the last one, and even watch the 1st part of the 7th again. ^_^

last saturday i went to see deathly hallows for the 2nd time and i already feel like watching it again :p can't wait for the dvd let alone part 2!! and i really need to read the books again, it's been a while..

does this mean we're getting the complete Prince's Tale?! (or am i missing important flashback scenes into his life apart from that?) i so need to re-read that book:ninja::lol:
i hope they don't mess this up, it's probably one of my fave chapters of the whole series, i was a sobbing mess afterwards and i want it to be the same in the movie

*spoilers abouth the seventh book/film*
I know I'm really late, but my thoughts on DH part 1. I loved it so much! I expected not to like it, as for me the last two films were so disappointing for me. I'm not sure how exactly, but I felt like they'd really "stepped up" some how. They also seemed to have screwed around less with the plot in this one, as although there are some changes/omissions they aren't as big or take away from key plot points as there has been in the past (burning down the burrow in HBP, for example). Although am I right in thinking that Hermionie doesn't brink the painting of Phineas with her? I'm not sure how their going to get around that, seeing as it turns out to be so important

I loved, loved the scene where the trio were walking with just the radio reading the list of the missing in the background, it was fantastic (and a really good way of subtly building up a war like atmosphere for the climax in part 2). The torture scene was also really well done, IMO, although horrific. Dobby's death could of probably have been better done, but still managed to make me cry though (TBH I was on the verge of tears from the scene where Hermionie wipes her parent's memories at the very beginning). There were some super cute Ron/Hermionie moments too.

Although I really did like it overall, I had a couple of 'issues' with it. Firstly, the amount of Harry/Hermionie shipping was just INFURIATING. It drives me mad, as there is little (if any) of this in the books. Whilst the dance scene was cute, and for me just emphasised the sibling nature of their relationship, it was a blatant attempt to try and create chemistry between them. And whilst I understood why there was the bix horcrux kiss, I think again they overdid in another attempt to creat a 'love triangle' between the trio which never existed. I also still found Harry and Ginny's relationship unbelivable, as other than the kiss and dress doing up scene (which I found almost as cringy as the mince pie scene in HBP) they didn't try and build it up at all. And from the wedding onwards there are hardly any references of her (not even Harry looking at the map).

Totally agree about the Harry/Hermione and Harry/Ginny interaction. I don't understand why Harry and Ginny's relationship is so chaste in the movies. I remember them being more affectionate in the book. Maybe the actors just don't have that great of chemistry?
