Weekend Report: 'Harry' Makes History

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 soared into the record books with the highest-grossing opening weekend ever. The series finale drew an estimated $168.55 million on around 11,000 screens at 4,375 locations, dethroning The Dark Knight's $158.4 million.
Deathly Hallows Part 2's first weekend flew past the previous franchise high of $125 million, posted by Deathly Hallows Part 1 last November, and it topped the franchise in terms of estimated attendance as well. While its opening gross also out-distanced The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million), The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($142.8 million), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($135.6 million) and the first Spider-Man ($114.8 million), Deathly Hallows Part 2's estimated opening attendance was less than those titles, ranking sixth overall.
After conjuring the opening day record of $92.1 million on Friday (buoyed by a record-shattering $43.5 million midnight launch), Deathly Hallows Part 2 saw the steepest Friday-to-Saturday drop on record for a non-holiday first weekend, falling 53 percent to an estimated $42.85 million. Its Saturday slotted ninth among the top-grossing Saturdays of all time. Distributor Warner Bros. projected a 22 percent Saturday-to-Sunday decline to $33.6 million, which would rank eighth on the all-time Sunday grosses chart.
Deathly Hallows Part 2 marked Harry Potter's first foray into 3D, and it made a splash with the broadest 3D launch ever (3,100-plus locations, including 274 in IMAX). However, the majority of moviegoers still opted to see the movie in the standard ("2D") format. 3D accounted for 43 percent of the gross, which was a lower share than Transformers: Dark of the Moon's 60 percent at the same point but in the ballpark of most of this summer's other big movies. Still, at an estimated $72.5 million, that translated to the second biggest-grossing 3D opening yet, behind Alice in Wonderland (2010)'s $81.3 million. In IMAX alone, Deathly Hallows Part 2 delivered the top-grossing start ever, generating $15.5 million versus Alice's second-place $12.2 million.
According to Warner Bros., 54 percent of Deathly Hallows Part 2's audience was female, compared to 57 percent for the last movie, and 45 percent was under 25 years old, compared to 56 percent for the last movie.

Go Harry Potter!!!

Here's ITV's annual Behind the Magic special. It's got some great BTS moments from the filming of DH Part 2.
This is just Part 1 of 4, but the same user has them all posted. :)

it was an amazingggggggggggg movie gosh! I miss the characters now, and I'm reading everywhere the author might do another book but she isn't quite sure, I know millions of people would love for her to do that.

i only liked about 3 things in this movie: Snape, Bellatrix and McGonagall. God bless these amazing actors/ actresses.
too bad we don't get enough of them, especially Bella :( i'd need more Bella-scenes  they even screwed up the Bella-Molly scene..

as much as i would love her to do one im pretty sure j.k. will not continue with the harry potter series. and even if she does, the trio has said they wont return to reprise their characters so it will be pointless. but we do have pottermore to look forward too!

What was screwed up? I thought the Bellatrix and Molly fight was perfect.

I didn't like the way Bella died either. I mean she was petrified into the wood and then what? Too quick and underwhelming. Also, it didn't show the bond between her and Voldemort, when he got furious after Bella was killed and attacked Molly. Just my humble opinion :flower:

^I guess that makes sense. The fight was quick, but so much was going on at the same time, so it worked.
Also, I don't think Voldemort had a bond with anyone. In the book, I think he's just upset, because Bellatrix is basically his strongest death eater.

I found this on ONTD.

JK said she's been writing a lot since finishing Potter, but that there will be no new Potter book. she will however definitely publish again. i can't wait to know what it's going to be

i'm so scared i'll be sorted into Hufflepuff:ninja: (at Pottermore)

btw, i've read that you can also be a squib!!! that's even worse than a Hufflepuff :(

where did this hatred of hufflepuff come from? everyone i know is saying "i hope i get anything but hufflepuff!"
i find it hilarious cause i dont want to be in hufflepuff either but i dont have a reason for it

Alvedansen, if you were a squib, you probably wouldn't get invitation to Hogwarts :)

Whenever I hear people talk about Hufflepuff all I'm reminded of is the line from AVPM, "what the hell is a Hufflepuff?" Which basically sums up my feels about the house. I know I shouldn't not like the house but it always seemed so boring. Although knowing me I would get sorted in to Hufflepuff.
