The Return Of The Glamazons.....

Daria looks alot like Linda, it's her nose or something.........Her GUCCI campaign is fierce.. There's something about her look, Very Annoyingly Haunting and Mysteriously Bautiful! in short, she creeps into you......major ingredients for a Supermodel in the making! I hope designers will build her up, and not kill her career after a few season.

I know Anna Wintour single-handedly pushing the return of the Glamazons and scraping the waifs off.

How so exactly? Please provide examples of something she's said or indicators in the magazine. All the September Vogue shows is a month-long hiatus from celebs.

Well I read somewhere that Vogue or the fashion industry in general want's to push models to look beautiful, womanly, drop dead gorgeous reminiscing of the 90's Cindy/Claudia/Linda mold, all about Glamour!!! The waifs/alien/weird/drugged look killed that mold when Kate Moss entered the scene. Then we're bomabarded with these "edgy" ugly models and the public lost interest to models and turned to celebrities, simply because acctresses are relatable, identifiable and approachable. What's up with the likes of Stella Tennant, Guinever Van Seenus, Kirsten Owen and Jodie Kidd just to say a few. Now Vogue wants the Models back on the cover of Vogue and they will only succeed if they put Healthy normal looking, gorgeous models like Gisele, Karolina et al. Not a starving stare of Kate on the 90's

I would welcome a return of models like those of the 90's. I think that the models who are big right now and will be for awile are...

1. Giselse - because she possesses all the qualities a top model should have.
2. Karolina - she has a sweet personality and is all-around popular, although her runway work seems to be slowing a bit.
3. Daria Werbowy - has a very interesting look and photographs really well.
4. Natalia Vodianova - also has a really sweet, humble personality and has a really angelic, pretty face.
5. Erin Wasson - she awesome at everything - editorial, advertisements, runway. Really good personality from what I've seen.

I would have to say Liya and Isabeli would be extremely close behind and could possible replace one or two of the last three on the list.

I'm amazed how much campaigns Isabelli has this season.....Oscar d la Renta, Chanel......Hermes........and she always look superb!

Is there really a shift or do today's models simply represent more of a variety than existed during the Supermodel era? Stella and GVS aren't on the Sept cover because they aren't "it" right now. The women that did make the cover don't really share any physical traits, do they? I'm not convinced there's a return to glamazon. A return to models, sure, but not one "healthy, normal looking, gorgeous" mold in particular.

Well Atelier, about those physical traits: When I first saw the cover I couldn't tell Daria and Isabelli apart though....

Well they don't have to share physical traits, otherwise they will be boring. But, they look Gorgeous in their own way, healthy looking........ Take Gisele, sure she's skinny, but her body is curvacious, healthy and athletic, strong and fit!, Stella tennant Jodie kidd and Kate Moss of the 90's are strung-out lookin', androgynous, and Blank! we demand the Healthy, gorgeous , girl next door look, if we want the models to reign the covers, otherwise we will be on diet of Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry and nicole Kidman!

Really? It's quite obvious to me.

But, they look Gorgeous in their own way...[/quote]

Agreed. But that's completely subjective and isn't supported by them sharing a common "traditional" look. I don't remember a Hana or Gemma (both on the cover) during the Supermodel era.

...Stella tennant Jodie kidd and Kate Moss of the 90's are strung-out lookin', androgynous...

I see nothing in common among those. Stella is elegant, Jodie Kidd--ok, she's ugly, but Kate Moss is an icon!

...and Blank!

 at "Blank!" I use that too on occasion.

...we demand the...girl next door look...

Not me.

...if we want the models to reign the covers, otherwise we will be on diet of Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry and nicole Kidman!

Don't get me wrong, I want models too. But I don't think we have to return to the Supermodel era to achieve that.

Don't get me wrong because I adore Hana, but she is not healthy-looking. Liya is painfully thin too, but I think it is all in their genes.

I don't like any of these glamazons...I still prefer waifish, bony, edgy models! They have more character.

Part of me can't let go of the waifish, edgy look, another part wants to see the perfect type. I can't decide, but then..it's not my decision...

Karolina- she is "the supermodel" right now since everyone knows her name even the average joe since she appeared on the cover of GQ Magazine.

Louise Pedersen- Even though she isn't in a lot of American Magazines she gets like at least 4 campaigns a season. And she has done all of the best campaigns and shows consistently since she started.

Euguenia- Obvious everyone thinks she is the best runway walker around since she does the most shows of any model during fashion week in NY. Also she has secured major contracts with YSL, Bvlgari, salvatore ferragmo. She also consistently get at least one major campaign a season.

Daria- Its clear that Daria is a major player especially since the new Sept. Vogue pretty much highlights her as the next supermodel. They describe her as being the most beloved in the industry and everyone wants her. Shes not going anywhere.

Erin Wasson- She gets a lot of great campaigns, has been around awhile and has an exclusive make-up deal with Maybelline for 5 years. Although she is a major European favorite she can appeal to Americans very well with her look. I wouldnt be surprised to see her in a movie one day.

I left Natalia out becasue I think people will grow bored with her after her Calvin contract. She was overexposed too much. She should have stuck to doing more fashion instaead of entering into the Calvin world.

Has Euguena gained some weight? Her Bazaar set made her look chubby... She looked a lot better when she was skinnier. Also, I feel in love with Isabeli's look! She's def. a glamazon!

Euguena Volodina, did gained some weight. I noticed in the 2002 Victoria's Secret fashion show, she's skinny and more angular. In 2003, however, she look curvacious and womanly, very healthy. Just in time for the return to Glamazon trend! To me She's the one who stood out in the '03 show. In the 4th segment where Karolina opened the show, The haunting Music ( drum beats?), The walk, and Ms Volodina's incredible romantic face sent shiver to my spine *wink*. She looks terrific!!!! watch it!

Her Bazaar set made her look chubby
Sorry, I might sound really stupid here but which Bazaar set do you mean? Is it this one?

I feel its time this topic be moved back into the forefront now that every other magazine is talking about Catherine McNeil and her presence ushering in a new age of girls with sex appeal, classic looks and many of the features of the 90s supermodels.

CATHERINE

My question are is this truly the start of a fresh wave of models and if so which other girls would qualify as being a part of this movement away from the girlish and almost doll like beauty personified by the current crop of it girls and towards the sex appeal and womanly glamour of the 90s models.

Off the top of my head I would say that Doutzen is definitely a glamazon in my book though she's been around for awhile so I can't count her as part of a new wave.

I think the new supermodels that most remind me of the 90s glamazons in general:

Hilary Rhoda

Maryna Linchuk

Agyness Deyn (she's proven to be more than just a cool haircut and she has a certain type of glamour:(

And I agree about Catherine McNeil. She's fantastic! Also give Jourdan Dunn a few more seasons and she'll be amazing!

seems catherine is the next big thing, people are talkin abt her everywhere
