It does happen a lot among non-Hollywood people, for various reasons, usually because they want acceptance by society. In Tom's case, I think it's religion. He grew up Catholic, and was even in the seminary, and they don't have the most tolerant approach to homosexuals (though they're not any where near as bad as many Protestant sects). And Scientology is absolutely vicious when it comes to the condemnation of homosexuality (and people with autism, mental retardation, mental illnesses, physical illnesses, etc). Anyone who isn't perfect, and homosexuality is viewed as a massive imperfection, needs to be cleansed of their Thetans through lengthy 'auditing' (where they're taught how to think, behave, be) to be purified and saved.

I have to say, if I were gay, and found myself believing in a cult that actively preached that the way I was born was evil and horrible and less than human, and I could never succeed in this life and would be damned forever in the next, and they are everything good in the world and the highest power and they cannot accept me as I am, and will cast me out if I did not change - I'd enter into heterosexual relationships too. Especially if I was being "audited" (which involves constant light stimulation, deprivation of food and water, and the repeating of specific phrases until there's nothing else in your head but Scientology teachings).

I know but it's hard to deny that such high-profile marriages almost never last very long---- even when both participants are pretty intelligent, responsible people.

I give it three years. The first year they'll be settling in and getting used to each other, the second year they'll start to piss each other off and they'll spend the third year dividing up half of everything and signing papers.

I don't think Tom has a say in that and if he did, I'm sure he'd opt not to have any photogs there or maybe just a select few. In comparison to some of the other fame hungry celebs who literally do ANYTHING to stay in the spotlight like openly slagging other people off, bragging of who they've slept with, walking around with no clothes on, Tom is a saint, and is quite frankly not that bad. Even after his divorce with Nicole Kidman he never publicly spoke about it and has never washed his dirty laundry in public.

Ethan from Lost, that is, played by William Mapother, Tom's cousin. I looked up and lo and behold, in a couple shots, from a couple angles, she was the spitting image of Mapother. It was freaky, and yet, kind of cool.

He ANNOUNCED to the world the exact time and location of the wedding.

In the 1st place it's his THIRD wedding. Funny how his 1st 2 weddings were quickie private affairs and now for the third one when he really needs the PR he goes all out.

Tom's rep has pretty much leaked or admitted every single detail of the wedding to the press. He has turned this wedding into a media circus. If Tom and Katie wanted a nice private wedding then they could. The fact that they announced the date, the location etc was designed to create a media frenzy. I think Tom was peeved that baby brangelina stole Suri's thunder and now he's going all out. It's ever funnier that they've invited people they barely know like JLO, couldn't get any really famous folks to attend huh?

I woudn't be surprised if Tom "saves" someone tonight during the pre wedding dinner or tomorrow during the ceremony just so he can ramp up the fawning press a notch.

He went on TV and talked about how "Nicole knows" what she did in regards to the marriage. It was designed to make her look bad and look like the guilty party. His behaviour then was nasty, even to the point that he was trying to lie about the date that they separated so he wouldn't have to pay Nic as much. Guess the scienos didn't want the divorce settlement cutting into their 30% share of his income. His behaviour since then has been even more disrespectful considering he was married to Nic for 10yrs and has 2 kids with her, all that crap about how he's never loved anyone like he's loved Katie etc.

Give it a few yrs and Tom will be on TV talking about how "Katie knows what she did" while he's out recruiting for child bride #4.

This whole relationship is one big sham. One can only hope that next week the media will stop giving a damn and feeding into Tom's need for constant PR. Tom is a tighly wound control freak, he'll implode again in the near future.

I forgot to add that the "wedding" tomorrow is for all intents and purposes an expensive party to get attention as a Scientological ceremony isn't recognized as legal in Italy and they apparently haven't got the proper paperwork to have a real civil ceremony. So the wedding like the relationship will be one big sham. I'd actually love to be a fly on the wall as I'd pee myself laughing listening to those ridiculous scientology vows about "a cat, a comb and a pan".

I for one don't know how they get away with calling Scientology a religion. They don't worship god or a higher being, they worship money. It's a cult. I applaud those countries that are smart enough to ban the cult.
