So there wasn't a thread specifically about Tom Ford's SS11 collection because he didn't have a show(well he did but you know what I mean) but I really thought Mr. Ford deserved a thread for this collection. The only thing is that the only way to find the pieces(currently until Vogue Paris actually comes out) is through the editorials and this is how much I've gotten so far.

Honestly, I don't find the clothes you get to see here all too exciting - He's done much better, worked-out pieces in his last few years at Saint Laurent and Gucci, and you could see that Alessandra Facchinetti must have had a strong hand in the design of the pieces as the two collections she did for Gucci showed just as much glamour and intricacy in craft and detailing as those that Tom Ford did for his swan song collection.

Sure, there is always a market for straight forward, glamourous clothes. But these ones lack a sense of modernity that elevates them above the 70ies retro glam he's been channelling so obviously these days. Quite a let down, but also quite expected, when you see the thread running through his solo work after the Gucci days.

I couldn't have said it better tricot. The whole collection was very under whelming for me and more of the same. While it has that glamorous appeal, it's not as exciting as I would have hoped and not really different than what he was doing 10 years ago at Gucci.

I think, giving these shots a second look, it's the least expected piece that I'd probably give my approval - the shift dress with knotted front, worn by Karen O. in the black and white photo with Tom Ford - The use of volume seems unexpected for Tom Ford, but I think the silhouette is interesting (and above all, accomplished) on this one. I also like the large necklace they've styled it with, though I'm not sure if this is also from the collection...?

I think this collection is a bit anti-climatic. The stuff is a bit basic, but I suppose that's the stuff that sells? This doesn't show his full creative extent, IMO.

The knot dress is the only thing that caught my eye.
It looks like every-season Armani.

Well you didn't expect Ford to come back as if nothing had happened in the last 5 years did you? He's a smart man and he knows what works and won't. Expecting him to return completely unchanged and uninfluenced would be naive. Maybe the clothes do lack the iconic Tom Ford lusture, but I have a feeling he'll seduce us all over again.

I really think that the reason the collection is very much anachronistic is that he's really trying to take us right back to where he left off. I mean in the way he does the show, in the way he allows pictures to be released, all the way down to the actual design aesthetic. I really think there's a market for these pieces and Ford knows it.

Oh and I'm wondering about all the accessories. I hope they all are Tom Ford, if so... I may have to pick up that broach...

everytime i see this picture, i smile. seriously, i would die outright if i saw someone in that ensemble on stella tennant (in her solo shot with the designer).

i use it for the Tom Ford threads cause it sums up perfectly how i feel about the lack of information

All of the jewelry is his, yes. I'm really quite taken with that dress as well, and in one of the editorials I read that it's actually chocolate brown. I don't know why I just assumed it was black.

is there a lookbook or something thats going to be realesed?

From what I've heard the images in VP will be the actual runway images that Terry Richardson took and I've heard nothing of a lookbook. I don't really think Mr. Ford has a need for it though as he won't be having any more shows and he'll only be doing studio appointments by reservation and will be allowing no press to book appointments, only "select fashion editors" who really will have no need for a lookbook.

His website is also going to be updated to include images and footage of the runway show. I would guess that since he does a sort of lookbook presentation of his mens collection each season there will be some kind of lookbook of the women's collection in addition to runway photos.

Obviously I don't know for sure but it seems likely.
