Tom Ford S/S 2011 New York

The shoes are seriously dangerous and more appropriately vicious, as Street a Licious pointed out.

I kinda hate the dress on Liya, it's just not sexy
. But the long sleeved blue dress  How foxy! :brows:
I have a feeling it's the kind of dress that's sexier when it moves. Fringe looks fab on a moving body. Plus, we don't know what's going on from the rear.

I really love what I see so far. I love the three beaded, Dietrich-esque dragon lady dresses, I'm dying for Stella in that ensemble, the photograph of Joan is all kinds of glamorous...and just think, there's still 20 or so more looks to see. :woot:

What I love the most about this collection is the crape of mystery. Tom definitely knows how to make money and skimp on a campaign. :innocent:

the genius is that basically the whole of Vogue Paris will be his own personal ad campaign.

its very glamorous i must say, nobody does glamour like tom ford thats for damn sure

everything except beyonce looks great , beyonce should just stick to house of dereon she looks trashy , joan smalls and liya wow!

Editor Lucy Yeomans on the first show of Tom Ford's new collection and dressing Bazaar cover star Emily Blunt in his breathtaking designs...

Few fashion moments have been more eagerly awaited than the return of Tom Ford to womenswear. In September, I was one of only a handful of the world's press that had been invited to the 100-strong show in the Tom Ford NYC store on Madison Avenue - all photography, including personal snaps on iPhones and Blackberries had been banned, so as you can imagine the atmosphere was electric.

I'd had a little hint that something special was about to happen when I'd met up with Bazaar's December cover girl Natalia Vodianova the week before the show. She had already been for a few pre-show fittings with Tom and told me to prepared for something very exciting.

I couldn't have imagined, however, that Tom's exquisite new creations would be sent down the runway on the likes of Julianne Moore, Beyoncé Knowles, Emmaunelle Seigner, Lauren Hutton and Marisa Berenson, but hey, this was Tom Ford, the man who likes to confound, surprise and impress to the extreme. Tom leant languidly on a marble mantlepiece and talked to the assembled group elegantly and wittily through every detail of each outfit, making quips about Beyoncé almost turning him straight, and Daphne Guinness wearing her own family jewels...

The collection itself was the very height of timeless womanly glamour: the perfect classic black tuxedo, dreamy silk gorgette dresses, the ultimate black leather bomber jacket... I called Tom's office that very night and asked if we could work on a special project together. The result - the world's first viewing of Terry Richardson's exclusive pictures from inside the show and an interview with the man himself by Bazaar's Fashion Features Director Clare Coulson. And... the first UK cover featuring one of his new creations, a breathtaking cobalt blue fringed dress worn by British actress Emily Blunt in the January edition of Harper's Bazaar.

Also do those shoes remind anyone else of Louis Vuitton? Well really only the heel part.(Get into Beyonce's)

in spirit, i did sense something of the newest vuitton collection. it had that outrageousness and boldness that this collection shares. the animal prints and other gorgeous detailing definitely tied the two together. but this is tom ford's normal state of play where the spring/summer collection for vuitton definitely stands out as an exception rather than the norm (remember, only a year ago we were talking about deliberately ugly backpacks and outsized afro wigs).

no no no, he didn't mean the S/S collection, which was a fantastic and fun and outrageous excursion into old Shanghai/chinoiserie, but the Cruise collection.

but all that silky slinkyness of the S/S collection is what i loved about it.

imo MJ quoted YSL again, like he did in his S/S 08 collection which is still FANTASTIC (all those tribal motives and the shoes! THE SHOES!!!)

Ok ... I love it!

First when I heard about the concept Tom Ford was doing for the show I was a bit like wtf? but knew this was gonna be a good thing .. just had no idea it would be SOOOOO good.

Its back to basics! Now that even editors find grueling and boring to do catwalk shows .. a presentation like this in the good old days when it was just socialites/customers (and even the fact that TF commented on everything) ... this more "intimate", personal atmosphere is something the industry much needed ... pure stroke of genius!!!!

Now .. about the collection ... I think TF as well was very smart on the choice of materials ... Id like to see someone copy Liyas dress (I mean, prints on fur???) or the silver jacket Stella wears on the first pic or Joan's coat ... in a more personal matter, the red number (and shoes) are 100% pure old school TF, which I know we all longed to see ...

And Beyonce .. well, we all could live happily with her not stepping on another catwalk (ever) again.

PS Check out the audience's reaction .. even the models .. everyone's SO happy! I wish Izzie B was alive to see this

yeah, i think the girls in the issue of Vogue Paris are all wearing TF? if that is so, Crystal Renn is wearing a pair of green pumps which just SCREAM Tom Ford for Gucci.

(the editorials of Crystal and that cowboy one have leaked apparently)

I quite like the inclusion of Beyonce on the catwalk. It takes nothing to make a 5'11 third world fifteen year old look good in an evening gown; she'd look good in anything. You don't see women built like Beyonce on the runway, but you certainly see more of them in real life than you do 5'11 fifteen year olds. She looks good in the dress, which is a testament to Tom Ford's ability.

his interview from haper bazaar was so lame and to be honest, sounded stupid. i lost all respect for this man! and his firt show concept is nothing sort of new...kinda following YSL footstep!

Everyone follows in Yves Saint Laurent's footsteps... :/

I haven't read the interview from Bazaar yet... I wasn't aware there was one. I knew there was on in Vogue though.

it's too true and with good reason: everyone knows that the fashionable set found themselves enamored with and inspired by ysl's work after that petite palais' exhibition in paris. we're having a ysl moment right now. if designers didn't reference him outright -- marc jacobs, stefano pilati, et al -- the definitely referenced him in spirit -- frida gianini, jason wu, prabal gurung, even fendi's karl lagerfeld. tom ford seized the perfect moment to make a comeback and seeing as he brought ysl from fashion's past into the modern era, i think it's his right to seize upon that legacy as part of his own.

Personally I love the collection! I love that he went back to that time when the shows were intimate with only specially invited guests. When collections were kept a secret until the very end when they appeared in the magazines and people died for them. I love Tom Ford and his style. What he has done here is take us back to right where he left off and i'm sure he has a few things up his sleeve to dazzle us. I live Tom Ford. There's brilliance in his execution. The Tom Ford woman is glamorous, she has sex appeal, she's elegant and sophisticated. He is able to balance all of those without presenting something that is tacky or trashy...in the future though, I would love him to use MODELS. Let's bring back the era of the supermodel!

This look, both "the dress" and "the woman in the dress," is the standout in the collection for me.

All right, I know I'm probably reaching for the stars, but are we going to see a catwalk video from this show, or at least some video pieces to see the clothes in motion?

Although for the moment I'd be more content with a decent lookbook to be honest.

I really wanted to like his comeback to womenswear but this just seems so dated. I can't really get into it. Everything is very heavyhanded. I'm quite disappointed.
