^ I think that it is a wash because you can say that there were three looks out there but we have also seen them. Also, I think the white trench coat (or a white trench coat) was in the US Vogue ed, and some of the separates may have been in eds too. It may not be precise, but my guess is that we have not seen 30-40% of the stuff.

Neither Ali or Betty modeled in the show, so they're wearing other model's looks. The white trench was Anja's look in the show and the black suit on Betty was worn by Abbey, Edita or Emmanuelle.

uhm...

how else do you explain the fact that her picture in both Vogue Paris and in the Harpers article is identical, down to the shadows?

clearly big hair and loud prints/textures are the order of the day. Currently indecided what i think.

BUT IMO this is miles away from tom ford at Gucci - non?

i don't know i feel very Tom for Gucci and Tom for YSL at times with this collection... the thing is I don't think it's a bad thing... because that's Tom.

I think there are echoes of his work at both Gucci and Saint Laurent, although to me it doesn't really look 100% like either of them. There are bits and pieces of both of his "women" throughout the looks we've seen, although I think that the final result is definitely distinct from his past work.

It's silly really, people were celebrating Tom's return to womenswear and now that he's here and doing what he does best the same people are complaining. What else were people expecting?

But people should not get all weak in the knees just because it's Tom Ford.

i won't lie... he could have designed potato sacks... and i would have gotten weak in teh knees.

tom ford himself purposefully designed a collection that exists outside of trend and rebels against the instant gratification culture so dominant in fashion. for these reasons, it makes sense that the trend-obsessed twittering masses in the blogosphere might not find their fill with that type of collection. i doubt he cares seeing as it's not his audience anymore: let the big houses fight their way to the bottom, he's trying to create something more substantial than that.

^ May I interest you in a couple of pieces of the Brooklyn Bridge?

LOL!!! Markese check your karma account!

Tom Ford is a talented designer and an even more talented marketer and businessman, and some of y'all need to admit that your passion for the dude is because he is one fine mothershutyourmouth.

while i'll admit that my admiration tom ford the man factors into my fanatacism for tom ford the design house, it's deeper than that. these clothes he has designed for women and the clothes he has designed for men do not fall into the same category as standard ready-to-wear. the best corollary comes with his fragrance line. one of my signature fragrances is tom ford japon noir. i bought it quite a while ago. every time i wear it, i get roaring compliments. i've never smelled it on anyone else. in fact, most people don't even know it exists. and unlike my other coterie of eau de toillettes -- a mash up of jo malones, chanels, guerlains, and with the occassional hermes -- it doesn't get dated, it doesn't smell like "the season," it's instantly classic although it's relatively new.

these clothes accomplish that same thing. they're enduring. they're specific. they're personal. that's what he's going for. the suit on betty catroux on the previous page isn't something meant to satisfy some temporary fashion urge -- not that there's anything wrong with that -- it's meant to become an old friend.

To @mikeijames I would like to say that witholding my opinion about this collection I think there is a way to create a "timeless" piece that can still look a tad dated. I mean I think that opinions on timeless-ness vary from person to person. Besides a t0shirt and jeans, I think that somepeople may see it as timeless and others won't. Especially when it comes to luxury or glamourous pieces because in a day and age of minimalism some could deny the pieces relevancy

And I understand how to get Karma... I mean what do you DO with it afterwards?

I so want to sniff you right now. :p

This photo has me wondering, has Tom Ford ever done a collection (collections) inspired by his southwestern roots?

^ There have been a few instances where his roots have worked their way into his collections. S/S 99 was when he did the famous few-thousand dollar Navajo beaded jeans, his S/S 02 Gucci collection had a very desert-like vibe to it, and his S/S 04 Gucci mens collection was pretty much all luxe cowboy gear.

BTW there's now a countdown clock on the tomford.com homepage...not that anyone's been checking the site daily since the beginning of December. :innocent:
