US Elle September 2021 : Selena Gomez by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

The second cover is better, finally something good coming from her!

Such a long wait for this?:
First strike, full-body cover. Second strike, God-awful styling. Third strike, Selena Gomez.

Under Alex White, Elle's fashion covers are either way too toned down or way too extra. Though her appointment makes sense on paper, the actual execution looks worse than Samira Nasr's era. I get the theme, but for a cover? It's trying too hard to be edgy. Unmade bed included.

Also, the irony of layering a reconstructed Madonna/Marilyn Monroe look for an issue celebrating Latino/Hispanic culture.

"The latinx issue" and they get Selena Gomez on the cover? She's as american as they come lmaoo.

“Latinx is a gender-neutral English neologism, sometimes used to refer to people of Latin American cultural or ethnic identity in the United States.”

Doesn’t this apply to Selena? I don’t think being American and Latinx are mutually exclusive.

Absolutely hate this cover.

Not good. She looks like she playing dress up with her older sister clothes when she not home.

I thought Selena has moved on the juvenile era and more grow up now. This is okay for seventeen magazine not Elle.

Isn't "Latinx" mostly used to describe Americans of latin american descent? She is that.

(It's stupid term btw that Latinos themselves don't claim, it's only used by woke white people)

Nina Garcia is Colombian-American herself and she likely made the call to use the term, so...

About the cover, the styling is bad but finally they did justice to her face, she looks gorgeous with that make up and hair color

But I'm curious, if you're not from Latin America are you allowed to call yourself that? I've never seen or heard a Spaniard refer to themselves as Latina/Latino. Always assumed it refers to Latin America exclusively.

Absolutely hate this cover.

Just look at that long list of credits, lol. Respected professionals down to the MUA.
Magazines are not only dying because of the change of wind. It's dying because the ones in charge no longer know what content to create, and we see it with so many covers dropping in this forum.

I'm from Latin America and mostly the term is used to describe people born in LA. I think her father is mexican but Selena was born in Texas (according to Google) and I honestly don't think she embraces the latin couture other than these days since it's now commercially convenient for her, but idk I guess these kinds of things are viewed differently by some people.

The "latinx" its just the neutral form of the word.

ut I'm curious, if you're not from Latin America are you allowed to call yourself that? I've never seen or heard a Spaniard refer to themselves as Latina/Latino. Always assumed it refers to Latin America exclusively.

In Latin America, most of us don’t refer to spanish people as latinxs, (as far as I know is because of the colonization and a way to protect our culture), but is a subjective theme.

Christ almighty that first cover is just bad lol. In her defense, I don't even think the best models could work that Chanel t-shirt.

Second cover is actually quite good even if it's very standard fare.

I call myself latin american, being born in Argentina. But I remember a time when the term used in the US (and countries outside Latin America) was just latino/a, someone born in LA or from LA descent. But I guess it´s harder for people who don´t speak spanish to make the difference between male and female so now they use the X.

Spaniards are european so they call themselves that. They fall in the "hispanic" category because they speak spanish but it´s not a widely used term.

I like both covers, they actually remind me of something that VM would do :D

Best part is that t-shirt's $5,150. Virginie is just trolling at this point.

Selena is just not photogenic- no matter the amount of costumey transformations or HF makeovers they tried to give her. I think the only time I've lher in print was her US Vogue cover and that was purely because she got the M&M CGI treatment.

This feels like a July/August cover editorial, not the all-important (?) September issue. Pair that with I&V being a shadow of their former selves and it's an all-around no for me.

The editorial is a mess. Only the first photo is decent. Alex need to seriously think about her strategy for this magazine because everything she has done so far for Elle only tarnishing her name.

But I don't blame her, you can't put out anything decent with a vision of EIC like Nina. at least Alex works for WSJ still good.

I only like the 2nd editorial preview, very W. The rest are all global Glamour magazine standard.
