US Elle September 2021 : Selena Gomez by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

And even in English, the proper plural form would be “Latinos” or “Latino” which actually encompasses all genders and loses its gender connotation, therefore being the most inclusive term. To say “Latinos” can’t be a plurality of genders is as narrow minded as saying they/them can’t be singular. Get pass the “O”.

The argument in Argentina (by young people) is that the O implies male, therefore it negates women  but then, they don´t even care to say two words to mean male and female, they just use the e (in english, the x) :hardhead:

That's pretty much how I understand it as well, and my Spanish is limited to coverlines on magazines.
For instance, la chingona, lol. Mijo, mija...and so on.

Anyway, the biggest Google news update about this cover is that Hailey Bieber liked ELLE's cover post on Instagram.
And how Selena is channeling Marilyn Monroe. Nobody notes the irony that the issue (and Selena) also celebrates Latin American/Latinx culture.....

Esa, this magazine is being sold in our countries as well. :stuart:
Right but like, for petty cash lol, I mean, it’s not the cake, just the cherry or something. Great if you buy but Elle’s not exactly gone the way they would be if the main target stopped buying it.

eta: also Hailey just liked it cause seeing your ex or your bf’s ex look terrible is a never-ending source of pleasure.

you are just controversial, it is a fashion magazine, it is not Time magazine, you have to complain about everything, make a controversy for a word, if the world of fashion publishing has gone upside down it is also your fault and this politically fake correct!!!!Stop!!!

^ lol, losing your s*it over *gasp* a debate on The Fashion Spot. I don't blame you for not knowing where you open accounts during lockdown, but after a year one would think you'd ventured around and seen endless pages with full essays by people discussing a print or shoulder pads. It's happened for many many years. It's not instagram, if 'yas' and 'yay' is all you can handle, wonder how you can even handle the amount of text happening in a magazine and where the crisis in publishing really lies...

For some bizarre reason, I find myself just a little bit in love with this! Never been a one for Selena Gomez but this is one of those very rare instances in which she has photographed well and it's I&V and their signature best (taking me back to one of their stories from the early 00s with Amber Valletta).

Helmut Newton on a budget! and for some reason she's reminding me of a younger, mexican version of Madonna in Madame X era.

My lovelies, the Latin Americans/Latinx mystery finally is solved, and guess what: it has nothing to do with Selena Gomez, much less with gender identity!

Selena editorial maybe a mess but at least the contents are good. Maybe the best September issue in the US.

Gabriela looks best out of all the designers pictures. "Off The Wall" is also nice, the clash of colors kinda too much, but at least it's not another grey background. Mayowa editorial is the best one in this issue. She's really modelling in every single pictures. Such an underrated model, in the perfect world she should be on every magazine covers. The rest is just fillers. Anna editorial is lovely tho.

The last picture of Lily is embarrassing, so tacky. Save it for Instagram please.

Mayowa Nicholas by Chris Colls may just be the most chic editorial I've seen within the pages of American Elle for quite some months and perhaps Alex White is finally finding her footing at the magazine - first my liking for Selena's cover story and now Mayowa Nicholas!

Chris Colls is the only one who can work (well) with Alex White at Elle. I don't find the Mayowa story perfect from a stylistic point of view, but it's very good overall and the studio imagery is particularly striking.

All the (former?) big creatives who joined Elle had the life and creativity sucked out of their work though - Joe Zee, Carter Smith, Arthur Elgort, Michael Thompson, Mario Sorrenti. So I guess it should be no surprise regarding Alex's lacklustre output, especially in the current day and age. Lori Goldstein was the only one who did good stories and maintained a strong POV. Of course, as luck would have it, she's moved out of editorial and advertising completely now.
