US Vogue August 2021 : Dr. Jill Biden by Annie Leibovitz

Strange that there's still no sight of the issue. American members, is it actually out on newsstands already?
Maybe they've finally listened to our suggestions to hold off on releasing digital so soon. I'm sure it hurts newsstand sales.

I haven't received my subscriber copy, though as with most US magazines, it usually arrives after newsstand copies show up

Received mine about a week ago, not my subscriber's copy though. The issue is so thin. 104 pages. Anna in her note talks about Jill, towards the end talks about Gabriela Hearst and then Omar from Lupin, Another story follows, beauty, which has one pic of Hailey. Followed by few cheap looking ads and then Jill cover story, and then Gabriella's story, a profile and then adult in the clothes. This is followed by an Olympic story titled On Their Games, which featured swimmer Simon Manuel, gymnast Sinusa Lee, and sprinter Noah Lyles profiled by Robert Sullivan and photographed by Dana Scrugg, Hype Williams and Josh Olins respectively. This is followed by Omar Sy's profile. Then there's a fashion story on bags, boots and belts with Anok photographed by Theo de Gueltzl styled by Alex Harrington. And another editorial with Hailey photographed by Stefan Ruiz and styled by Camilla. This is followed by another story snoozefest titled Give me the Night photographed by Oliver Hadlee Pearch styled by Carlos Nazario, this has multiple girls including Malick Bodian, Child Dia, Tougaard, Ifrah Qaasim. and there/s a 2400 dollars Gucci bag on last look.

i will buy this issue only for jill photographed by annie, the rest is as bland and boring as almost the last couple of years, give me back Craig Mcdean, David sims, Steven Klein, Mikeal Jansson, mert & Marcus, fire all these new photographers, these fashion editors like Carlos Nazario, Alex harrington, conde Nast should summarize Alex White and Jessica diehl and summarize Lucinda Chambers, Vogue would return to spend !!!i miss Mario Testino Bruce Weber and Patrick demarchelier

At least as far as Anna's rank implies, this is still supposed to be 'the' Vogue, and it's 104 pages? Abysmal.

I'm with you! There's no denying the fact (regardless of the global pandemic) that American Vogue has been on the decline, both in terms of quality and creativity. I am 100% able to understand a business cutting costs but not a luxury fashion publication at the expense of quality and creativity.

Vogue's expenditure may be the same as it always was. Perhaps the likes of Klein and M&M don't even want to work for American Vogue? Does the prestige of belonging to Wintour's Vogue even still exist? The new wave of talent may just be Wintour's way of switching things up.

Speaking of, the 'new wave' of talent which has been injected into the magazine over recent years (like Tyler Mitchell and Jordan Bickham) have failed to deliver the goods - dramatically. IMO, Ethan James Green is the only talent who has successfully been able to match the likes of Demarchelier, Testino and Meisel. EJG's cover with Rihanna for November 2019 was a sensation, and I haven't been head over heels for a US Vogue cover since.

Personally speaking, I'm only prepared to continue purchasing American Vogue for the next few months, if there's zero signs of improvement. After all, the suits at Condé Nast (and Anna Wintour for that matter) cannot expect domestic and international readers to fork out money for a magazine which lowered its standard and increased the price.

I stopped religiously getting US Vogue about ten years ago, and by 2018 I was buying zero issues a year. Over the past while, I haven't seen the magazine produce anything of merit to make me regret that.

US Vogue is the same as many other brands in fashion at the moment - price goes up, quality goes down.

I’m glad that Camilla Nickerson can live out her David Sims fantasy by working with Stefan Ruiz.

The Stefan Ruiz editorial looks when US Vogue used Karim Sadli in studio....i like the bags story the most....the rest meh.....at least the issue have more fashion than previous months....

The bags edit with Anok is really intriguing, I particularly enjoy the first shot (I thought she was wearing Vuitton ) - that one reminds me of Meisel's more forward thinking work for this mag in the 90s. Everything else is, well, the usual.

The written content in this issue is almost non existent...

Great comments, as always.
It seemed to me that the pendulum movement that Vogue has been practicing is back to tradition. The cover with the first lady couldn't be more monotonous, lazy. The hair has thinned out and ages terribly; the dress works well in a country wedding, but not in a Vogue cover... but anyway, what is American Vogue now?
Fashion editorials reminded me of IDs and Dazeds from the nineties, when something like this was new.
This dynastic shift is taking a little too long. Maybe there are no more queens around.

The highlight of this issue is Mona Tougaard for me. The editorial as a whole is messy, but the three shots of Mona in the street are absolutely impeccable and straight out of 1991 Vogue! Such beauty.
Anok Yai's editorial has some lovely images, but the story doesn't really feel like US Vogue. But then again, what is US Vogue nowadays? The rest of the content is simply bland.
