US Vogue February 2021 : Kamala Harris by Tyler Mitchell

“Harris styled herself. She chose her ensembles. But it was ultimately Vogue and its editor in chief, Anna Wintour, that selected the cover.”
- Washington Post

This, my friends, is all you need to know. In an ideal world, let’s blame Anna.

Both Vogue and Kamala played with fire, and they did not imagine the backlash to be this bad. And now Kamala’s getting the free pass and all the hate for Vogue. I hope this is not a foreshadowing of the next 4 years.

I remember watch or read somewhere that Anna said one of her Vogue’s goal is to release pictures or photos that get people saying “wth is Vogue thinking??”. I forget where though, maybe someone can bring it up lol

That makes a lot of sense as I think that almost every month about US Vogue.

I like this better...i mean the second picture on this post...kinda prom picture but that his aesthetic anyway

Why does this look like it was shot in a prison waiting room? The background is like 3 feet deep?

I think US Vogue is trash but i honestly cannot see what all the fuss is about. She's on the cover of a fashion magazine because she's Kamala Harris, the Vice President, not for her sense of style, fashion acumen or beauty, for my part I frankly couldn't care less about the aesthetics of cover, she can present herself anyway she wants and I'm fine with it.

Both terrible covers imo but isn´t there some sort of protocol when it comes to mandataries? perhaps it´s because I´m old but a VP in Chucks on any cover is a no-no for me.

“Foreshadowing of the next 4 years” —> did you mean her role as a VP in the next 4 years? An appearance in Vogue is hardly important enough to foreshadow what she’d do in terms of policies, dealing with oppositions, and all things related to a VP’s job description throughout her and Biden’s first term.

And it just keeps getting worse. I really want to support Anna but this?

This was handled by an all black team and look at how it turned out. Maybe if it were Annie and Tonne? Or Phyllis and Craig or Steven Miesel? I'm all for inclusivity but Vogue needs to stop supporting mediocre black talent all in the name of inclusivity. Even the accompanying article was a mess (also a black person).

Vogue needs to stop this dress down thing and bring back the glamour. They are so much into reflecting the times, which is quite depressing that they have now failed to give readers an escape, fantasy, fashion and glamour, which is what is really needed right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's from the "In Vogue: The Editor's Eye" documentary.

Maybe it was a similar situation to Testino in The September Issue, where she didn't like the covers but had to make do with what was on hand there's no chance to reshoot.
I bet Tyler hands over the entire film too which must tell you that if these were the best cover tries then what did the rest look like?

According to Marc Jacobs is the best cover in ages....LOL he commented that on Diet Prada’s post...

It still boils down to this ultimate question: beyond Beyonce, how on earth did Tyler Mitchell even get to shoot for Vogue more so the covers? If his standard is a representation of that of his generation, I guess we're all doomed.

Nevertheless, a classic Inez & Vinoodh portrait would have been spectacular.

Don't care for those two, they're shady.
Should have just been Annie. This is her niche. She made the Michelle Obama cover (the first one) look dignified, inviting to the greater public, and Vogue-level despite the fact that Michelle wore a simple dress.
