US Vogue June 2011 : Penelope Cruz by Mario Testino

That's just one gorgeous cover, I'm so amazed by the freshness of it.

This is the first time when I honestly can say that I like the US Vogue cover..

I love Penelope and I love this cover!

She looks awesome in the cover and in the inside photos, Mario Testino finally did a good job.
It's also true that in the last months US Vogue has been improving and going towards a clean and stylized look but this is the first cover I really like since a long time. Last year was really terrible, maybe the only exception was Gwyneth's cover and only because of how bad were the others.

I'm happy that Vogue's team is going consistently better each month, it's time!

Now, with that great cover, I wonder what the content is like.

close-ups of celebrity faces are about as conventional as magazine covers can get imo and while i like the more down-to-earth mood of Penelope's cover it's far from astounding. considering the image was shot on-location i find the face shot an easy way out and pretty humdrum; definitely did not maximize the sultry beauty of Penelope or her surroundings.

after letting the cover sink in this was what i thought  but for a magazine that gets most of its celeb covers wrong this is a wonderful offering, it still is a beautiful one and does wonders for Penelope (since i've always found her beauty to be a little tiring, but surprisingly it's an absent trait in this cover). and even if the face shot is literally a pretty scapegoat for a cover image, at least they got this one right. Vogue's been redeeming themselves with their covers during the last few months, i find this one to be a consistent move for them.

anyhow i can't wait for the reviews :magic:

Fashion isn't just about clothing though it's also about beauty, which is what this cover is featuring.

Close-up shots like this for magazine covers aren't that common really because aside from Allure, Harper's Bazaar and sometimes Vogue UK, most covers are medium close-up.

I don't know, I like seeing a close-up cover that isn't completely distorted by photoshop like Allure and Harper's Bazaar usually does with their covers. I'm glad they didn't give her a stereotypical sultry "Latin" look, that's the go to styling for people of Hispanic descent it seems like, it's lazy to me so it's nice to see something fresh.

^ Thanks for the review, sounds great. I see Joan is becoming US Vogue regular.
I won't start complaining about Arizona & Karlie...because there're enough of other models I like, especially Lara.

The review sounds promising, indeed. Another editorial with Karen! Yay! :woot: And yep, it looks like Anna has taken a huge like on Joan. :)
The only thing that's kind of disappointing here is that Grace doesn't have a contribution or should I say, didn't style at least one editorial. :(
