US Vogue October 2017 : Rooney Mara by Annie Leibovitz

So boring imo.
A closeup would have worked better, the boat on the lake was more interesting that all that grass...

I feel like the cover was an afterthought, and cropping this image for the cover makes it seem like they cheated a bit. I wish we had a portrait with Rooney addressing us at least with her eyes for the cover.

I like it, but this would have worked better if she was looking at the camera with those piercing eyes.

But the overall photo works and the Valentino dress works with all the greenery around her and her dark hair and lips.

Can't wait to see the editorial. I hope Annie didn't go overboard, but who am I kidding. It's Annie we are taking about.

Wow, ok. Super excited to see Rooney Mara on American Vogue again, but this could be better. Her silhouette is far too small for the image, and why white? It feels so digital. Hopefully the edit will provide better shots because the cover is not very Leibovitz.

This cover must have been last minute decision! This is not something Anna would pick.

And what's up with 2 consecutive covers with flowering dresses, and the cover star not facing the camera. Tragic.

Unforgettable fall? More like forgettable cover.

Looks like a backstage shot.

Bizarre... She's not looking at the camera and she looks like she's preparing her face for the next shot, pulling her cheeks in and puckering her lips.

That's such an odd cover, especially for US Vogue. It could've been great but the execution is really lacking.

I actually like this cover but her facial expression looks strange.

Definitely looks like an outtake and not a cover. The other cover stories look interesting to me though, especially Joan Didion.

And honestly, at this point I'll take just about any cover that isn't a Jenner, Kardashian or Hadid.

I seem to recall a cover of Cate in front of a sweeping landscape (the only thing I remember about this cover was the line 'Every night is dangerous', which pulled me right in). Anyways, I'm guessing they went for that vibe? Pity it didn't work out. Annie Leibovitz isn't a strong fashion photographer. These images show that.

I love the intention but i'm less convinced by the result. It's too gloomy.
The second pic, without the big chair upfront would have been a better "unexpected" cover.

The pic in itself is gorgeous but the cropped version doesn't work well enough for the cover.

Holy sh!t!! Only see that now, Hillary Clinton tells her story??? Most likely to tie in with the book. This will be the first time I pre-order Vogue since September 2015.

Vogue has been very political this year - Renzi, Theresa May, Angela Merkel (just a puff piece, but still) and now Hillary.

It's funny how she's getting all these covers for a film that is no longer being released in 2017.

I don't really understand US Vogue's thing with Rooney. At least with the Sienna obsession she delivered fairly decent editorials. Rooney is always just so flat to me?

The cover and editorial were shot in Cornwall apparently. This smells like a last minute filler shoot to me. I wonder if Hilary did have a cover and for whatever reason it was dropped...

Why she's not looking at the camera in any picture? Annie, what happens??
