Vogue Italia March 2010 : Freja Beha Erichsen by Steven Meisel

Freja's editorial is the best one I have seen in Vogue Italia since 2007's Rehab editorial, which is one of my favorite editorials of all time. Every shot is a tour de force. Freja is a total revelation. She just works every single frame. I cannot think of any other model who could have done a better job. And the styling is TO. DIE. FOR.! Everything is very Coco Chanel/Marchesa Casati to me. I simply LOVE the black and white picture of her dripping in jewels.

I am so happy that Freja got the cover of VI. I think she is one the most underrated models of her generation and it is finally great to see her getting some super blue chip work! Now only if she will get a Vogue Paris cover and she will be set !

^^ I disagree. Freja gives something cool with her appearence, Natasha gives the richb*tch-thing.

I think it will be out next week in France ( I guess middle or end of the week).
The previous issue was out in Italy on 3rd and in France on 13th.

You know what ?
I'm crying right now.
At least, I have friends ... I hope ...

I was expecting something different from the first ever Meisel/Freja VI collaboration. I thought he was going to shoot her the way he does with his new girls; that is a studio shoot that gives an indication into the girls personality and aesthetic, combined with some kind of location shots.

This shoot to me is a waste of Freja. Any model could have done this. Theres nothing special about it.

The editorial is definitely nothing new but it's a shift in the right direction, and by that I mean a shift towards the aesthetics of the golden age of Vogue Italia...the early 00s (although parallels can be made between this story and the hideous Linda/pugs one from June 2008). I feel slightly odd seeing Mathias transition from Mr. Bambi to an assertive 1920s protagonist in editorial portrayl...even though I should expect it considering his age and modelling ability. I do have to say the shot with the piano is the stand out for me.

I am most pleasently surprised by Lara as Batwoman in couture . The last Roversi/Stone collaboration was lacklustre beyond words so I was dreading this, but kudos to the stylist (Edward, Jacob or Patti must be) for making the couture collections look good. Together with her independent shot in this month's US Vogue...this proves that Lara is really capable of transitioning from typical va-va-voom model to doing something softer and quieter .

what an exciting issue!
and freja's cover is so beautiful that I did not even recognize her at first :P -ed is good too..although it could've been much better with another model. I can not grasp freja in this role..there's something quite "off".. :ninja:

the rest of Lara by Roversi ed...

i just don`t get it: why everyone is so excited and tensed? not bad, but nothing radical new about that issue or we ve just forgotten how good can be italian vogue?

 ditto to this. looks like a decent issue but some are acting like its groundbreaking.

This month reminds me of the quality of 06-07 VI.

Woah, the main ed is just....woah :o

And the Lara/Roversi ed, is that from the couture supplement. She's wearing all couture

The main editorial is beautiful but I'm not sure Freja was a wise casting choice... If Meisel wanted to use a girl he overlooked for years he should have gone for Natasha Poly, she can pull off aristocratic femininity way better!

ugh. natasha would've been soooo perfect for this. great idea for casting. spot on! :D

Freja is one of my least favorite models ever, but her editorial is pretty good. Though the cover, not so much. Lara's edit is perfection though!

This must be the most challenging (to him as a model, I mean) editorial Mathias has ever done, while for Freja, it's nothing new:rolleyes:

Meisel seems to have a preference for the Danish and Dutch lately...

I think the cover story editorial was fantastic. Freja and Mathias both delivered. It was cinematic and very theatrical. Old school glamour with a hint of drama and I found it lovely and dramatic. I'll try getting this issue. ^_^
