W August 2009 : Lara Stone by Steven Klein

Cant wait to see Laras ed, this is the most fab cover ive seen inawhile and Im shocked that it is US W!! Almost makes up for the hideous Bruce Willis and wife cover last month!

^^ actually W december 2004 had daria on the cover with a big 'DARIA' written on it and there was an editorial inside plus a presentation. that's not to start a challenge, it's just that 5 years ago daria was the it-girl-face-of-the-moment, more or less like lara is now. hopefully lara will have the same long-lasting career.

^Actually Lara has been working longer than Daria if I'm not mistaken :innocent:

I lvoe Lara, she reminds me of the 90's, very grunge...just cool.

I also love how soft this cover is, very unexpected for Klein...he's usually so bondage/p*rno, it's a nice change.

What happened to Michael Thompson by the way? He hasn't shot a single W cover yet this year. Quite strange if you ask me. Did his contract ended or something?

Not my absolute favorite Lara editorial ever but there are some shots that certainly have their merits. Very different from Klein's usual work - hoping that even nicer quality images will show up on Steven Klein's website.

^^Oooh thank you, love the whole ed, every shot is good imo. And yes, finally a different aesthetic from Klein.

Very nice. Thanks for scanning. Good to see that Klein is capable of doing something soft.

I do like Lara's edit. She looks great in every shot! I especially like the pic of her with the pigtails and red top- tres adorable and cheeky! And also the chair photo of her in nude lingerie- so sexy. Lara's versatility astounds me, and I think that is what this editorial was meant to showcase. We get high fashion Lara, we get down-to-earth Lara, we get sexy Lara, we get innocent Lara... And we get a preview of her with darker hair-which I decidely DON'T like- in the last shot.

I really like how he shot Lara for this ed, I am so glad he didnt went with his usual
S&M and cold styling with Lara, imho it has been overdone in his work, and erotic, highly sexually
charged looks have also been overused on Lara.

So I like how its great that Lara and him work together to create something new for themselves for the this issue,
which I thought which it is very important for times like this to continously amuse and enchant readers

PS: Luxx, I love that u put Lara's name in CAPS

I don't like this very much but I still want this issue.

I'm just absolutely thrilled to see Lara being featured in the magazine. It's not my favorite picture of her, and I certainly could have gone for something more edgy in flavor (not Steven Klein "edgy", just more...dangerous). But the photo is beautiful in it's own right, and shows her features really well I think. The ed leaves me feeling the same way.

As for the icon debate, I'll just throw my thoughts out there. It's not fair to use the supermodels as the barometer by which all other potentially iconic models are measured simply because they were and are an aberration, and I doubt if any other model will ever measure up simply because that moment will never happen again. In this moment Lara happens to stand out, and will no doubt be remembered for doing so at a time when curviness is considered taboo and uniqueness or flaws are airbrushed away. Icons are those that have stood out from the moment the spotlight was put on them, and I think it's fair to say that Lara has done just that.
