Waited patiently for the Keira Knightley UK Vogue to arrive. When I first saw the pictures on-line, I was really puzzled by the selection of the wardrobe, which I knew was from the fall lines but couldn't pinpoint the brands. It turns out that most were separates mixed & matched from local UK brands. The biggest international designer they used was Alberta Ferretti. In addition to the cover, there are 5 photographs inside, all by Tesh. The interview is shockingly short, just half a page long. Honestly, this pictorial fell short of my expectations, as is the magazine as a whole.
Four editorials:
"Summer Days" with Daria Werbowy modelling everything from swimsuits, caftans, to light jackets. Photographed by Calinne Day. It's the best Daria has looked in months, but you can tell it is heavily air-brushed. Actually, UK Vogue has appeared too air-brushed and glossy since its layout redesign this year.
"Miami Chic" with Jessica Miller and Nicole Trunfio lounging on the beach in easy separates. Terry Richardson's photography is lovely here. I like the cheeky spin he gives to otherwise serious-looking models. His "Chasing Blues" with Angela Lindvall from US Vogue December 2003 is a prime example. The cheeky factor does not work well when the model is already outwardly sexy. So, Nicole looks more "fit" for the mood than Jessica in this editorial.
"Beauty and the Beach," a swimsuit editorial with Jessica Miller by Raymond Meier and an accessories ed with Leticia Birkheuer, also by Meier. I usually like Meier's work, but it looks so glossed up here and his signature look is nowhere to be seen.
The content is a fairly weak read. The "Shopping Diary," which details the new conquests of four supposed fashion insiders, is especially lacking in substance. These "insiders" have no taste and dress badly.

Clashing patterns, thrown-together unplanned, hippie-ish, dramatic layers--I gather this is how Brits dress like in real life, but their magazines have a more sophisticated and minimal approach to fashion.
Liz Hurley for Harper & Queen is a bore. There is not a single interesting page so I did not pick it up from the shop. So, taking a hiatus from Harper & Queen since buying it consecutively this year. On a related note, I wonder if Italian Flair will pick up soon? I have not bought it since the Gisele cover in April...
