Why do you like/hate Dior?

^ Hey, it's annoying me too!

I don't really mind Galliano as a designer, even though I don't exactly love everything he does. He's made many great things during the years. My main complaint is that I just can't accept that this is what Dior has turned into. Others think it's great, and that's fine. It's just opinions, not hard truths, and I won't lose any sleep over it.

A designer's view on things.

Well, I can see why some people think it is just a bunch of rags tied together with a belt, but as a designer, believe me it is a bit more that. It is a process, that has no straight line to its conclusion. Basicaly the bottom line is that some will and some won't like it, but the challenge is to try to get around the obvious, and look at it from a different viewpoint.

I am a Dior Baby!

Oh did I forget to mention that I am a serious lover of Dior! Like it or not, the stuff rocks.

Some reasons to why I like Dior...

I love the small details, and I love the details on these dresses, although, the presentation was pretty horrible, the collection had some very wearable pieces imo...

00130m.jpg

I dont know what I like about these two, but I think its the baroque sketchy style print with the random typeface, yes I know, not wearable at all...but i know they would look FANTASTIC in a good editorial
00020m.jpg
00150m.jpg

I love these two, so suttle and wearable...the first dress isnt really my style, but i know its a fantastic dress, and what solange is wearing really appeals to me, although i dont know why, i just like the jacket.
00010m.jpg
00040m.jpg

I loved these two dresses, there was some fantastic detail in these two, especially the first, and yet again these two have the potential to sell or make a great editorial...

two very classic dior pieces, so we know that galliano does have the talent to work like dior, even if he doesnt use it all the time

00460m.jpg

00150f.jpg

The other man I love!

Galliano, just doesn't design fashion, he creates a world! that you may or maynot choose to enter. It is his world, and his is giving us a tiny peek into his dreams, and sometimes they are fantasy, and sometimes they are nightmares, but the bottom line, is the man is a genius! And wether you like it or not, you are never casual about the opinion you give, love it or hate it. It moves us all on a deeper lever, and that it what Fashion should be about, PAP, we can get off the rack, but what he creates is a springboard to desire.

Just my humble opinion!

again, ignore the heels, makeup, hair, crowns and look at the DRESSES! when im writing this, I can only see in the edit box the dresses, and they do look nice
00160f.jpg
00150f.jpg

again, two very gorgeous but lost pieces from this collection...

JUST STOP STOP STOP and read this BEFORE making a judgement...the outfit on the left, yes I know she looks ridiculous, but I remember seeing this dress in an ed (under the coat) and it was STUNNING, and i know you can get away with it, just not with that coat and the creepers. I also like the dress on the right, again, get rid of the accessories, makeup, and to me the dress stands out alot, but i know its one of the weaker choices to my argument, but this is more of a personal favourite...

IGNORE THE FIRST HALF OF THE EGYPTIAN THEMED SHOW
100122196.jpg
100122205.jpg

The gorgeous, wearable, couture dresses were more in the 2nd half, not 100% wearable, but couture isnt meant to be is it? and anyway, ive seen many of these pieces from this collection in fantastic editorials...

last few...
100116837.jpg
100116791.jpg

i think this collection only looked bad because everything was piled on, but if you just take items per look, there actually really nice. take the dresses and suits for example...
100105267.jpg
100105261.jpg

i like these two, amazing detail, gorgeous dresses...i love the layers so much on the 2nd picture
100099411.jpg
100099419.jpg

two very nice and simple dresses, spoiled by the over use of accessories and ott makeup
100099429.jpg
100099414.jpg

again, same as above, another two gorgeous dresses you dont even notice!

I think you are underestimating the knowledge most of us have on the industry. We aren't all a bunch of naive kids who will look at a collection, go "ewe", and move on. At least, I'm not. I know perfectly well the hard work which goes into creating what John creates but that has nothing to do with the outcome. You can have perfect detailing but if the pattern isn't good in the first place than the hard work don't matter. Basically, I don't like what he creates at all - no matter how long it took him to do it.

^Agreed.

And another thing, although most people will probably find this quite extreme, I have to respect a designer - the person behind the label, and his or her thoughts, and general being - to like a collection. It's not just about what it looks like for me. Thats why Raf Simons (and others that I hold in high regard) can churn out something completely hideous, but I'll respect it because of them - their integrity and intellect.

John Galliano, I have no respect for. Dior could come out with something amazing (doubtful) for next season, but I will still dislike it. Superficially, though, it's not hard

This threads annoying me, I seem to be one of few that actually like Dior...Dior isnt that bad though seeing as there only seems to be about 10 different reasons to why people actually dont like Dior, but repeated many times in different ways in this thread...like; a) Dont like the logo stuff (me neither) b) The clothes on the runway arent wearable (i know) c) Its too expensive (like most designer things) d) The clothes Galliano design are stupid or whatever... e) Celebrities carry them f) Not liking what Galliano wears at the end g) Its not as good as Dior in the 1950s....stuff like that...

There seems to be only one reason repeated over and over that those who LIKE Dior use... "It's art". That differs from eye to eye so it aint to strong an argument if you ask me.

Not extreme at all... again, it goes back to "image".

that´s not the only reason, at least i like Galliano´s work, because: i like his vision, his interpretations, his legacy and contributions to the fashion and couture world, his genuine extravagance and the way he expresses himself through his unusual outfits, he´s been dressing like that since day one, long before he even started working at Dior, (according to him is a way to feel each collection, wich i find remarcable), the energy that each show projects, the messages and the poetry.

This thread is getting a bit pathetic, Ive decided that (I being one of the pathetic ones) - Am going to respect everyones choice, because I know it would be even more boring if we all thought the same and agreed with everything. I just guess Dior apeals to some people and not others ^_^:flower:

I have read the upper threads and I've noticed that some of you hate Mr. Galliano because of his abundance of colours, variety of forms, "unnatural make-up"...You've classified him as a ridicolous "weathercock"...It sounds very weared to me...becouse I really appreaciate him for this courage: he is not afraid of colours, of being extravagant, of "the act of creating"....
Sorry, if I put to many of my emotions in this thread, but he is the one who demonstarted(by his collections) that the fashion world is more than glamoure and a "trendy zone".I think that he confirms the Ferre's thoughts, who was against the "trend's or must-have's systems".
