Is it just me or is the Dior brand faaaar too over-rated. I seriously dont see the appeal in most of Gallianos designs. Most of them are just muddled up pieces of fabric. Some of the dresses look like rubbish bags with belts around them. I mean anyone can do that

Yes Dior has lots its highbrand price appeal in my opinion. 2000-2004 DIOR WAS AMAZING now its just BS to much dependency on plasteting the dior logo fabric on anything an everything. What happened to the sex appeal of Dior? I think he has gotten lazy either bring in a new designer or something an Hedi Slimane for Dior Homme is pure trash I hate his clothes so depressing his male models look like crack addicts. It was good when Ferre was there.

An is it me or was fashion in general amazing in the early 2000's?

 i think you might have just started something.

But what do I like about dior? The creativeness and tackiness (in a good way) and how he sort of makes everything flow.. hard to explain. I'm sure there are other people here who can, though ^_^

Galliano's incredibly talented when you shave his work down to just art and begin to splice it. but he's a ****** and i have no respect for an artist who creates art without meaning or regard for anything ourside of his "world"

omg YES! Thank you Lindsay. Thats EXACTLY what I was thinking.
I mean true Gallianos an artistic fellow, but ANYONE can be artistic. His designs are faaar from being anywhere near being practical or even wearable to any proper outing. Take a look at what I call "Crap Couture Clash"

Poor Caroline Trentini is too beautiful to be covered by this trash sack...

I like his work, but I can understand why people dont like it. I think its a matter of opinion, but Im not talking about the logo crap...I mean some couture pieces, and ready to wear.

I am not a fan of Galliano's stuff either but I disagree in that fashion has to cover just the overtly glamorous sense of glitz-y hollywood beauty... everybody has his or her own concept of what beauty is, and yeah, there are people that actually appreciate a morbid, rather dark aesthetic (refering to zombies and crack addicts).

He's a cocky stupid frenchman. that's all there is to it. An extremely talented one, but cocky and rediculous. I do emphasise the talent - because he is tremendously gifted with art. but he - the person is rather rediculous

He may be gifted but he is certainly overdoing it....the only reason y i respect him is for the fact that he dares to be like that, hes brave full stop. But anyone can be artistic, I bet Ralph Lauren or Christian Lacroix or Donatella Versace or Tom Ford can all make random and spontaneous designs like this Galliano dude can but they tend to be real.

i think the Dior has always had respectable products, but they do tend to get carried away. But i look at it as exploring. no that they've ventured off in one area, there's no need to go there again. but i do agree with you doctor...just to an extent.

Can anyone actually figure out what happened to Caroline Trentini's face in that last pic i sent in the CD Couture show??? No matter how hard i try I cant seem to discover where her face is lol

^ How do you mean, what happened to her face? The mask is only because he based the Spring '04 couture on Egypt, and some of those dresses in that show were actually very wearable...

Also, you have to remember, it was on a interview I saw, that he doesnt actually expect anyone to take what's shown on the runway too literally. I mean the only people who would buy anything couture, etc. and keep it exactly the same as on the runway...would probably be some magazine for an editorial. Whats shown on the runway is just to show, colours, and his visions but dramatized, then the client will tell him what they want etc...

ohhhh mask, i thought he had put excessive amounts of ugly make up on the girl like he usually does to all the models. I rekon the guy has totally stuffed the Dior label up. Christian Dior was originally a really glamorous AND artistic brand. C. Dior was a really talented man and he dared to be different and create really inventive clothes that women would wear to partioes and things, but this Galliano character has turned it into a pile of colorful trash.

Well, personally, I think Its a personal choice, but I dont think people should take whats on the runway too seriously.

C. Dior was a really talented man and he dared to be different and create really inventive clothes that women would wear to partioes and things
Well, you can say all of this about Galliano, and remember how Dior would have been the Galliano of his day, what it is to us will be different to what it was to them, and many people still wear Dior by Galliano to parties.

usually in this forum, people who like outrage can stand simplicity
but people who like simplicity are always blown away by outrage. they just can't stand it.

it's make up not mask. he is refering to the egyption couture show, not the" zombie" you refert to. by the way, this is a fashion show, not model show. they are there to be played by the designers in everyway.

when i show galliano's make up to my classmates, they shun away like" errr disgusting"
when i show to my art teacher, she goes "interesting, give me all the pics, i want to scan"

I think you are too critical on him- all designers- name one and I'll give you an example- produce, along with whatever else, hideous, unwearable rubbish. All of them

But they also produce good things.

What I mean is, all of them produce good things and bad things, and I don't know why you've singled out John...

I loved his spring lace line- there were many beautiful, wearable, peices

esp the following

but also you must realize that what you see on the runway and what you see in the stores are often two entirely different things--

You see pics from the "lace" line, above- but below are some of the ( in my opinion gorgeous) peices that actually turned up in stores

^^The spring/summer collection was very beautiful and very wearable. I think Galliano showed an other side to himself with that one.

But I on the other hand hardly ever like the clothes when they finally hit the stores. Like the pictures posted above, I think they are really boring, they've lost the runway magic;)

i did change the name of thread because we already have a few like/hate threads started about Rochas, Prada, Marc Jacobs, etc. so this one will jive with the rest better..
