Your List of "True Supermodels" and why.....

i can only start from the mid 80's because i don't know much about the models who came before that. my list:
kate moss, naomi campbell, claudia schiffer, christy turlington, naomi campbell, cindy crawford. these are obvious.
also: tatjana patitz, carla bruni, helena christiansen, stephanie seymour. these are the peripheral supermodels. they all did high fashion just like the first six, and a lot of it.
tyra banks and amber valetta too. tyra became a mainstream success and amber became a high fashion success without becoming famous.

the last supermodel, in my opinion, is gisele bundchen. no one has come close to her success: not karolina, natalia, daria, or gemma.
also, i think kristin mcmenamy, carmen kass, shalom harlow, stella tennant, carolyn murphy and others like them also came close, but never reached the pinnacle of modeling.

I think by today's standards (looking through a true fashion's eye of view) Daria is qualified to be a Supermodel. She's a toast and beloved by designers, fashionistas and editors. She has a beauty campaign, and very in demand in the runaway!!!. Daria doesn't have to do VS to be a Supermodel because VS is not a high fashion. Linda E can't do VS, Kate can't do VS yet they won the respect of the fashion industry.

nowadays Caprice and Adrianne Curry are more Supermodels than Daria.

Whaat?! I think Karen can do it if she tweaked a few things here and there (not permanently).

This might be an argument for "Vote for Daria as Supermodel." (rambling, might not be appropriate for thread) In the yesteryears, there was celebrity. Now there's celebrities like Paris Hilton and there's people like Daria who aren't too famous but are known in obscure or upper circles.

Also, culture today is so diverse. Dari has never had MTV coverage but she's known to some of the people that I wouldn't suspect.

i also find christy and linda the best of their supergeneration. you know what? when i look at their old pics, those pics still seem so fresh. others supermodels, even if they're so stunning, look more 80s-90s. linda and christy are really eternal, a bridge between noawadays tastes/trends and those times, classical, even if i prefer christy over linda.

Me Too! Christy is so beautiful - in a classical sense, her beauty reminds me of Audrey Hepburn. It's ethereally timeless. Plus, she has so many personalities in pictures that make her a great, maybe larger than life model.

I wish I'm just exaggerating, but I have a feeling that she was and still is

I think Lunabella is spot on, there was a supermodel period where models were such big celebrities. One name I would add to the discussion is Elle MacPherson. She has to be included in any list of supermodels. For example in 1986 she had a the cover story for Time Magazine. She's a little thin on high fashion work, but she's stil a household name almost 20 years after the peak of her career.

Supermodels transcend modeling and are embraced by the general public as bonafide celebrities. People who don't follow fashion would know who they are. By that measure, pretty much all of the current top models can be eliminated since, outside of hardcore fashionistas, no one can name them.

Supermodels also have longevity and can remain relevant long after other models 15 minutes are over. On a more superficial note-- they don't need a last name for people to know who you are talking about. They are household names:
