Starting from the worst... no paisley, nothing cowboy, no leather pants, no fringe, no leather minis, no sweat pants in public, nothing overly baggy, no sports jackets. No trucker caps, no fake ripped/distressed jeans, no overly dark or overly bleached jeans, no plastic nails, no streaks in hair, maintain minimalistic makeup. Nothing false or cheap generally! No to metallic hoop earrings, avoid feathers and obviously dead animals. Don't buy from sport labels, overly popular ones and avoid those that use child labour, if you can. Never buy from American Eagle, Sirens, Roots, any of those major brand names... Stick to cheerful colours, prominent yellows and purple, very little red. If you're feeling faintly goth, add in some neons, pink is good; to make sure it isn't a cliche. Go for cuteness, but take it to the extreme. It does depend on the shade, but don't combine red and brown, red and orange, yellow and green. If you're going over-the-top, do it humorously and do it for yourself. Never wear anything too openly sexy, no low cut tops, or bellies revealed, no thongs, no visible underclothing. Make sure you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. A pretty dress should make you want to wear it everywhere- and skip the entire time! Heels are to be worn only rarely, no chunky flip flops, no chunky separated heels, no sequins unless it's a joke. Shoes are important, they'll probably be inexpensive, but they cannot look that way. Never fall back on all-black or all-white. Be ironic and enjoy yourself, be sweet, be feminine. If it's possible, always wear a skirt instead of shorts or pants. Dresses are the best though. Have maybe two pairs of shorts in your wardrobe; do not attempt to build on that. Jeans should be simple, the top half is the focus. Have interesting shirts, let them express your personality. Despite the deluge against them here, printed tees are childish and fun. Be careful with what they're saying though- would you express it out loud and believe it? Make sure you can justify what you are wearing, if only to yourself. Dressing is an expression of who you are, and a creative outlet, ensure that you actually "believe in" what you're wearing. Add in unusual elements, but always remember to counteract them. Know your basics and build from the classics. If you're not sure of something, go for it, but have fun with the kitsch. Understand your taste, work from there. Above all- it must be visually appealing to your eyes.
