Your personal fashion rules

helena...i don't understand...did you wear them yet...can't you return them?...

I think I saw the sandals you're refering to on the topshop site. I don't think they are tacky at all. Your husband is so picky! I sure hope you give him just as hard of a time with his wardrobe as he does with yours. Tell him that if he buys you new shoes you won't wear them.

Don't wait to wear your favorite pieces for an event; wear them today.
Don't be too matchy-matchy (matching your shoes with your bags? contrived).
Only wear strong, defined colors (otherwise I look washed out).
Don't over-plan: the outfit should not be over-accessorized and the makeup should not look like you spent hours applying it.
Deconstruct trends and subtly incorporate those that would look good on you.

And finally, confidence and good postures are the most important. Also, know your physical flaws (hey, nobody's perfect) and learn from others.

i love all your 'rules' liberty rose... :woot:

words to live by!!!... :flower:

I don't have rules. Basically, I follow my own instincts, and it looks fine. ;)

Mine and Sephora_Socialite's...we collaborated on this.

First is don't be afraid of colors..you be surprised how vibrant you look.

Wear things you love not like. You gotta feel good in your clothes

If you have a routine, mix it up once in a while. Clothes are meant to be fun.

If you follow trends make sure that you don't lose individuality.

Keep things balanced. Don't overwhelm yourself by clashing too many textures/elements and don't over do accessories. Moderation is key.

Rules are meant to be broken.Never be too stuck up about things...If u fancy it just go for it. Follow the beat of your own drums, I guess.

Never wear two block coloured top and bottom together (if that makes sense)
and only wear jeans or sweat pants on a friday. Also not realy fashion but I only tye my hair back once a week. Always wear matching bra and panties. lol

Avoid anything ever seen on a Spice Girl or a footballer's wife/girlfriend at all costs.

i don't follow others' rules, but here are my personal ones. i don't ever wear:

*any kind of shorts, except to the gym
*socks with sandals
*gold jewelry
*platform shoes
*g-strings
*one brand head-to-toe
*anything tight

Amen to the no horizontal stripes rule. For me, anyway. I think this only works on the very thin.

I generally try to wear what makes me comfortable. I'd rather wear something that I know I'll be confident in, than something that looks better on the hanger than I think it looks on me...does that make sense?

People can be wearing really cute clothes, but if they're not comfortable with their outfit, it looks more like the clothes are wearing THEM than the other way around...kind of awkward.

rule #1. look at the archieves to see if this topic has already been posted.

rule #2. spend a little or a lot 'the middle is where it gets messy'

I'm sure everyone has certain rules on things when it comes to fashion. What are your personal rules when it comes to fashion? Like never wear jean jacket with jeans, etc.

I've picked up tips from everywhere and really incorporated what I like into my style.

1. Lots of black because let's face it there's nothing stronger at first impact.
2. Never match your handbag with your shoes (makes you look like a bridesmaid)
3. DRESS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE! Big one with me. I'm petite so I look best in simple silhouttes.
4. Most affordable way to do fashion is to buy basic timeless clothes and pair with shoes and bag of the moment.
5. Never wear more then one trend at a time. It looks desperate.

My personal rules...

1) Don't wear trendy clothes...
2) ...unless you like them because you like them, and not because other people are wearing them, and you will continue to wear them after the trend is over.
3) Don't wear the same style of clothing all the time.
4) Do the opposite of what "fashion magazines & articles" say.
5) Don't try too hard.

The onae & only rule : I wear what I like and I have to feel good in it !!!
