Damn it's good. And there is a lot to actually wear as well. He struck the perfect balance I think. My favourite collection of the season thusfar

wow! thank you, thank you! it's so intense...precisely executed...I'm speachless now...

It'll be tragic for McQueen to be stuck with the "Victorian dressmaker" label, so this is a step in the right direction. He developed a beautiful print, some interesting textures and materials, but with the exception of a few pieces, they really aren't remarkable coats, jackets, dresses. No new ideas here - the same old done up in different paillettes, embroidery, etc. It reminds me of old Galliano...I guess McQueen really is his heir :p.

As for the costume/fashion debate, there are some unwearable costume-like things that I would consider great fashion, eg. Paco Rabanne's metal dress, but definitely, a lot of this McQueen collection looks like fancy concoctions that get us nowhere, i.e., NOT directional. Balenciaga's robots were equally unwearable, but it had such an impact on this season, I'd say that was fashion. Otherwise, we'd all be seeing the McQueen/LouisVuitton SS07 neo-Victorian frou-frou everywhere these weeks.

It's really NOT that Egyptian.

I don't like it. The gold dress reminds me of something Julien McDonald made. overall the collection strikes me as too heavy and a little tacky.

I love this- but I have difficulty seeing how it will translate in real life

I really like the brown bag

clothes you like seeing other people wear= costumes
clothes you want to wear (in a normal setting)= fashion

Which is it Mcqueen is making?

Well, the only reason that would matter is for commercial purposes.
As far as I'm concerned, this is pure art.

And thank God McQueen is working in the fashion industry because were he in the un-commercial costume business he would not get half the recognition or funding he deserves.

Besides, it's always important to push the social boundaries of what is "normal to wear".As someone mentioned, sadly what is actually sold in the stores ends up being disappointing.

That dress on Gemma is....amazing. And the suit done in that print is perfection! I wish he would have done a little more with that pattern...that pattern is a real winner.

This isn't my favorite from McQueen. I don't hate it...I just...I haven't really made my mind up about it yet.

It's a little all over the place. I like the Egyptian references, but I felt all the denim pieces were very out of place...I can't fathom as to why he would put denim in this collection! And the last dress just seems very odd as well, the slim evening dresses looked great, but that last dress looks a little amateur.

And you know, looking back at the collection, I'd say the theme is more witchcraft than it is Egyptian. Egyptian mythology has a lot of influence on that whole world, so...

seeing it as a whole, i love it more than i could possibly say. it really reminds me of McQueen from around 2000 and 2003, and he did some amazing work then. ugh, i just love it sooooo much.

and there are a lot of wearable pieces in there and pieces that will sell sell sell, its not all costume

I think this collection is very poorly done. All the outfits looked ugly and tawdry. I really question his taste sometimes. The gold bodysuits and those fishnet bodysuits are especially tacky. The only I liked is the bejeweled moon shooting through the model's head and some of the shoes...that's all.

Oh, totally! Actually the only really unwearable item is the sculpted mask-bodice thing. All else is quite doable no?:flower:
