Alexander McQueen S/S 2012 Paris

The first five looks made me think "Oh, again!", but then the collection turned into something more interesting.

It was an alright collection (one of the best out of all the designers this season), but McQueen without McQueen just does not do it for me, unfortunately.
Some of the dresses were very nice, but I need the drama... I need the story.

They had to re-do the masks alone around 4-7 times each to get them spot on.

Loving this. Of course, this doesn't look like actual Mcqueen (as he was different every season), but it's beautiful and definitely Sarah's style.

The SS12 show's inspiration: Hyper-femininity. The ocean bed, sea shells, anemones and the crests of waves. Gaia. Gres. Gaudi...

"This is a collection about excess - an exploration of ideals of beauty at their most extreme.” - Sarah Burton

Wow thanks a lot for that info. :flower:
The black and white mask from a few posts above looks out of this world.

So many dresses! Even McQueen threw in a pantsuit here and there. The craftsmanship is seriously next level, but McQueen was also known for his sharp tailoring, something I haven't seen since Sarah started. The clothing, while gorgeous still look out of place in the venue. Where is the WORLD presentation?

She is telling a nice story...a continuous thread is apparent in each of her collections and I have nothing against that. She is finally starting to find her voice and take more risks--the masks are testament to that. It really is a stunning collection laced with the McQueen DNA...it's just that she is not a dark designer and McQueen, at time, was. Her hand is significantly lighter and much welcomed; McQueen's slightly darker and more forceful, perhaps. I wouldn't want to see her try to do something dark. We won't have that again. Perfect, flawless collection...bravo!

It's the same old, same old. I think McQueen had more substance and wasn't afraid to try different concepts.

Agreed with the "same old" comments, there isn't a single new idea here...oh wait, some outfits look like they're spliced with Valentino.

I thought this was a great collection, but seem to be in the minority thinking this.

The detail is exceptional. No, it isn't McQueen, that's because it isn't McQueen. Nobody was McQueen but McQueen. I am amazed how well SB has stepped into the breach in the most emotionally charged circumstances I can imagine.

The suits at the beginning were a bit samey, but the rest of the collection to me seemed very strong and with a clear vision. It had bite to it with the masks, but was also feminine and had a touch of Sarah to it.

Of course this isn't as good as something McQueen would have done, but it definitely does his name justice. I think when you consider the mess some other houses are in, McQueen is in safe hands.

Anyway, I anticipate being torn to shreds in 10... 9... 8...

The gowns are beautiful but as someone said up thread I wished there were some pantsuits thrown in for good measure. While Burton is a brilliant designer, logical and worthy replacement for the house, she lacks McQueens superhuman design range. He could do it all:cry: still missed never forgotten/
