Adesuwa is of Nigerian, Chinese and Thai descent, should she be included in this thread? She hasn't been so far.

I was wondering why she wasn't included, especially since she's been getting more high fashion work recently.

Even though she's half-Chinese, phenotypically she doesn't look 'Asian' (genetics is fascinating!). I will speak for myself and if you were to tell me that she's part Asian, I would have doubt that. Didn't know.

With that said Adesuwa will be included from here on out.




If there are more models that are Asian, and anyone would like to bring to our attention then please do. I/we don't always know every model's racial/ethnic background especially those who are ambiguous like Adesuwa.

As I know, Kohei already shot Bottega Veneta F/W campaign with Vittoria, and I think Ashley would give him a bunch of campaigns in upcoming season, because he is the only male model who walked all the Ashley's shows (J.W Anderson, Coach, Prada, Raf Simons, Calvin Klein)

Who Are the New Vanguard Among This Crop of Asian Male Models?

Every few years we witness a set of new faces.
Models with immense potential to be the leaders of tomorrow.

As cut-throat and contested modelling is, miraculously each generation
still produce several individuals with a career of stardom.

But just how long does that last? Especially in regard to Asian Faces.
Have the fashion industry fully embraced Asian male models, and how so?

Which then lead us to this, are we having another moment where some models
are destined to be superstars of an international career with all its glory.

Or are we getting ahead of ourselves and this is far-fetched and too early to call it as.
Perhaps there are just a few. Maybe more than ever.
We'll just have to wait it out and see.

I think Alexander Wang will most definitely feature a couple Asian faces for the campaign to reflect the direction of the runway.

Sohuyn Jung has been all over the runways these days. She has a good chance of landing Givenchy. Same goes for He Jing. I'm just really happy Givenchy is embracing Asian models, a stark departure during Tisci's era.

Calvin Klein probably will feature Wangy. I don't know why Ashley has an affinity for her, she has an okay look.

Ferragamo might go with a different Asian model this time if we based it on their casting history. I think Sora might be it.

Prada - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my three favorites to front their ad: Liu, Fei Fei, and Sora. Liu's new hairdo has been giving her a fresh look. I hope she will be Ashley's new favorite. Ting Chen could sneak in.

Chloe - Liu wen

Miu Miu - Ting Chen

Bottega - highly likely they'll have 1-2 Asian models.

Marc Jacobs - Songhwa Oh closed the show. She might have a shot at the campaign.

Its easier for me to break it down by girls rather than brands:

Cong He - honestly, not sure.

Jing Wen - hard to know since she had that Visa situation. Have no idea when she resolved that, but if she did it quickly, maybe Chloe?

Sora Choi - Louis Vuitton for sure. She opened Coach so thats a possibility (although Ashley tends to cast her newer asian faces for this campaign). Hoping something new like Ferragamo. Honestly, she really could be in any ad at this point.

Hyunji Shin - Dolce & Gabbana confirmed. It seems like Brokaw has renewed her interest in Hyunji, so maybe Chloe, Coach, or Zara.

Wangy Xinyu Calvin Klein probably.

Ting Chen - She seems to have strong backings from Brokaw and Bitton. Maybe we will see her in Coach, Zara, MJ, or Miu Miu.

Sohyun - Givenchy or Alexander Wang since she closed both for FW 18.

Jia Li - She seems to be Brokaw's new favorite. Maybe JW Anderson or Prada.

EZ - I think she might be a shoe-in for Wang

Xie Chaoyu - Another Brokaw fave. Maybe Coach, Prada, or Zara.

Yoon Young - Fendi. Shes pretty well liked by all Casting Directors so Im sure she has many options.

Hoyeon Jung - Chanel

Liu Wen - maybe Chloe. Would be a dream to see her shoot for Prada. Maybe even Alexander Wang.

Kiko Arai - maybe Balmain again.

Songhwa - MJ

Fei Fei - hard to know, but she will probably show up in some Meisel ad. He seems to be everywhere nowadays.

Those are some strong candidates that are likely, and some are wishful thinking (I agreed though). It was all good predictions/analyses from both of you! Enjoyed them.

Thought Etro/Balmain was unexpected for SS18 and Stella/DVF was for FW17. Hope this carry on to FW18 even among lower tier brands!

And so happy for both Dylan/Luping. Finally Armani is enlisting Asian faces particularly for its mainline campaign! Overdue and clearly neglected a long-lasting, and target demographic for a decade now, but glad they made the move.



Intrigued for Chu & Dipti. Just what is it. Big FW18 campaign?

Groundbreaking scene at Prada's Men SS19 show.

Never in the history of Prada has there ever been this many Asian
walking in a single season. Jinjja!

What prompt for this casting decision all of a sudden?
There's gotta be a motive, with good reasons for this. What are they trying to say here,
or the objective at large?

Certainly this has been Prada's best cast in terms of inclusion and quantity.
See if this is a new beginning, and whether could keep up with the women's show.
