Ok, fellow members :flower:

i am going to Brussel in a weeks time and wondering where to go shopping??

I love the Belgian designers, specially Ann Dem. also looking for cool vintage shops, markets, etc. Also looking for cool guys (designer) shops.

All help would be appreciated.:flower::heart:

All you need to know is this store; Stijl
But why not take a 45 min train ride to Antwerp? The variety there is so much wider than in Brussels.

thanks, faust

I might, just go ahead and visit Antwerpen.

where about in Brussels is Stijl located??

Antoine Dansaertsstraat 741000Brussels

If you stand with your back to the stock exchange (the bourse) and cross the big avenue, this street should be starting in front. The coolest shops are on this street, but Stijl is it.

aye i miss the pomme frites and the mussels and the waffles!!!

I'm going shopping tomorrow, any hot shops I should go check out?

Late reply, but you should walk on dansaertstraat - that's where all the coolest stores are. The best one is called Stijl, it's at #74.

I went there:smile: I only bought a diesel jeans though. I think I saw stijl too and I really liked a veronica branquinho turtleneck sweater, put the wool wasn't that comfortable:( Too bad I didn't have that much time.

Typical fashion boutiques (dior, gucci, etc.. but they lost ysl) at the boulevard de Waterloo, near the Avenue Louise, where you'll find Francis Férent etc... They are multi-brand shops and sell chloé, prada, balenciaga, miu miu. But the nicest shops are near the dansaert, esp. the vintage shops nearby ( a bit expensive I think but nice).

Bernard Gavilan, coolest vintage shop EVER... check his website for directions, an amaaazing store; clothes, shoes, even furniture. All my best boots are from him!

I felt like livening up this thread! ^_^ This is probably too late to help, but I felt like adding a few for the future. Brussels is not such a great shopping city. Main locations are:

- Rue Neuve: Personally, I hate it. It's just the one big pedestrian street where all the regular shops (Zara, H&M, Mango) can be found. However, the funkiest H&M is here. Just don't go on the weekend!

- Avenue Louise: Many upscale 'established' designer boutiques. Some funkier ones, like Louise 54, carry a mix of Marni, Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Balenciaga... Also there's Senteurs d'Ailleurs, a really great non-conventional perfume shop with brands like l'Artisan Parfumeur, Serge Lutens, Yux...

- Boulevard de Waterloo: regular designer shops, Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Sonia Rykiel, Delvaux, La Perla etc. If you turn left at the intersection with Chaussee d'Ixelles, you wind up on a street (forgotten the name) that has a few more interesting designer shops, such as a Kenzo

- Chaussee d'Ixelles: This isn't really such a great shopping street but it has a nicer atmosphere than Rue Neuve and carries shops like Mango, H&M, the Body Shop - I prefer these outlets to the ones on Rue Neuve

- Like faust said, Rue Antoine Dansaert is the most interesting shopping street in all of Brussels! Stijl is probably the most worthwhile, since it carries beautiful items from Belgian designers. The vintage shop next to it, Idiz Bar, is also a must-see though. The street has many other interesting shops besides that (Rouge, Marithe+Francois Girbaud - and if you walk farther there's a Comme des Garcons/Yamamoto)

- The Marolles neighborhood has most of the shops open on Sundays. There are mainly furniture stores, with a few vintage places thrown in. It's a slightly alternative neighborhood; much of the furniture will be empire, 60s retro, colonial or asian. There's also a very cool natural skincare products shop on Rue Haute, I think. Last time I was there, the saleswoman was discussing the merits of meditational Tibetan bowls with a customer :innocent:

Hope this helps anyone who's visiting Brussels in the future  !

Hi,

does anyone know any snowboard/skate shops or some funky shops for young fashion (besides H&M, Zare, etc) in Brussels?

There's a shop called "Fun shop" on Chaussee de Waterloo in Uccle. I don't know the exact address though, but I know they have a large supply of skateboards n stuff like that...

I made a day trip to Brussels today, so I feel like commenting the excellent guide above. I wish I had had it printed out though, forgot half the street names! :ninja:

I walked along rue Haute, hoping to come across lots of interior design. Part of the street and the parallell rue Bleas(sp?) were rather ok streets, a bit to the boheme side with some restaurants that looked agreeable, but the furniture were mainly antiques (which is fine in its own right, just not what i had hoped for).

We then walked bvld Waterloo up to Louise, and i must say that that promenade really isn't anything to recommend - Brussels looked rather bad for a while there..Around Louise, Brussels looked good, or very good, again. We had tea and the most divine chocolate fondant in a shop/gallery just north of the Gucci-etc streak of Waterloo. The name of the street at the intersection w Ixelles that TekkaMekka mentions is rue/av/bvd Namur, and it had some very lovely contemporary interior designs and other interesting shops there.

Unfortunately did not make it to Stijl as forgot the address and none of the asked pedestrians knew of the shop or its whereabouts!

Well, just my two cents. I enjoyed my day in Brussels!

annelein, whats going on around rogier and the shopping areas?
i miss brussels!

No problem Annelein, glad my guide was useful! Yeah, Brussels usually looks best around Avenue Louise since the buildings are usually beautiful and the shops aren't tacky (unlike some areas)... That made me think of another great neighborhood which I'm just starting to discover - it's more for walking around than shopping but there are interesting (if not useful) shops around. It's a street intersecting Avenue Louise called Rue du Bailli, near a square called Place du Chatelein. It's fun to walk around, there are little cafes and shops just hidden from sight when you drive past, but then when you walk around you wonder why you haven't noticed them sooner!

Do you know where one could find the names and adresses of the above mentioned multibrand stores (with Chloé, Balenciaga etc.)?

I am going to brussels in a few weeks and would really like to know where the great stores are and www/google isn't exactly helpfull when it comes to describing location or selection of the stores.

Please help :ermm:
