^ if you mean the date code ie. 02-05-53 then the real bags and the fake bags both have that code. It is located inside the zip pocket in the bag.

Do u think this is a good fake?

Both the blue and the black bags are very ugly fakes. I don't really "get" the reasoning behind getting a fake Paddington. The beauty of this bag is exactly those things which the fakes miss....the softness and quality of the leather, the proportions, the matte hardware and the way it blends in with the true colours....

I think that if you like the Paddington, but can't get or afford it for some reason, then it is better to buy another bag with a similar feel,or another bag you really like (even if it is non-designer) than to carry a fake Paddington bag.

I know Luna has found a really cool fake Paddy...but that's about the only good one I have seen/heard of.All the others are just:sick: ...paying 80 pounds for it is paying 80 pounds too much.

Would any of you with this problem peeling mind posting pictures of your bags? I would like to see what's going on and perhaps others too? I do what Klow suggested by placing the leather piece on one end of the zipper in between and it works great. I never zip my bags anyway, and the weight of the padlock keeps it closed.
I'll try posting pics once I get my digital cam up and running.. kinda having technical difficulties with my new cam..

Actually even with the all the problems, I still love my bag. The style is just so unique and I can't stop admiring it.

So gold zippers do exist afterall! Now I really don't understand why the Tan paddingtons have silver zippers.

^^ thanks roey! I meant to ask: have you taken your bag out since protecting it, and when it gets wet, does it still show the grey marks? I was considering using Vaseline on the dirt marks as they don't seem to be ground in but I think oil-based products erode the leather over time. But at it's at the back the marks don't bother me.

On the subject of fakes, it's amazing how quick you can identify one if you've got the real thing. That's one thing I love about the paddys - you can't really replicate the look of the leather.

edit: ok, you've answered my question, thanks!

While I haven't been caught in a downpour with my Paddington, it has been in rainshowers and always dries without incident. Another thing I do to all my bags including the Paddy is wipe them down with an unscented baby wipe containing Aloe. The wipe is sometimes all that's needed to lift off dirt that has not set, and the aloe serves as a conditioning agent. I forgot where I read this (could have been here!) but it is an inexpensive suggestion.

How did your bag get dirty, and do you know if it is actually dirt, or is it dye from your clothing? On another board I participate in, people who live and work in the city has said their bags collect soot from the air. Makes me glad I'm in the suburbs!

Question--LVR finally shipped out my tan Paddy on September 5 but my bag is currently 'detained' in a Fed Ex center in Tennessee (I just relocated to San Francisco and I am loving it here!!). I have never ordered from LVR so I am not familiar with the import duty taxes, etc. So far, Fed Ex has not given me any explicit instructions on how much to pay, etc etc. Should I wait another few days for an email or phone call from Fed Ex? No idea what to do and I really want my bag!!

^ try doing a search on luisaviaroma and fed ex on this forum. There was a discussion on it a while back and I know otehrs had a few problems with it too

all the original paddingtons have silver zippers. it's possible other styles (like the bowling) have different zippers.

Saw two black paddys at Ron Herman South Coast Plaza (Costa Mesa/Santa Ana, CA) about an hour ago. They also have a chocolate medium paddy hobo, but don't get this one...something is wrong with the lock.

I have been wearing my bag with jeans and noticed that the fabric dye seems to be rubbing off on the bag (these jeans have been washed several times, they are not new). Can the bag be "cleaned"?

Oh no! What color is your bag?

I'm not sure once leather picks up dye from something whether it can come off. I know I've never had any luck but perhaps if you take it to a professional leather cleaning place, they could get it out. Believe it or not, it's easy to get jean dye off "pleather" quite easily, but I think dye seeps into real leather.

Good luck and let us know what you try to get it out. Someone here has good luck with Apple or something brand.

my sis bought a fake one.. so sad for $800

Just today, I brought over my new khaki bag to compare with my sister's red bag which she bought online for $800. Wow.. Im so furious for her.

After comparing the bet the real vs the fake, I must say they've made every attempt to copy the paddingtons. For one thing, the authenticity/care cards are similar BUT the real one says "Made in Italie" as opposed to "Made in Italy". The real one has care instructions in Japanese..the fake one doesnt have it. The fake bag also has a serial number located inside the zipper pocket BUT, it is labeled UPSIDE down (facing into the bag). The real one faces away from the bag. The hardware on the fake bag is GOLD unlike the real paddington that is "matte, antique/brass-like". The leather on the fake bag is thin, smooth and is not as wrinkly/thick/buttery.
The fake key is shorter at the tip and not well-coated in gold. There are other smaller differences too.

We took some pictures to compare it side by side and once I figure out how to post it, I'll show it. It's one thing that a person KNOWS that she's purchasing a fake bag. But it's also another thing when consumers are LIED to and are unknowingly suckered into buying a cheap fake for the price of a real bag. There's no way you can virtually buy a real bag online for under $1395. These bags are way too hot to go for less. I imagine if you're paying for even at $800... it may be fake.

Another thing regarding the real paddingtons: Today was my first day wearing my bag and what disturbed me was that the brass hardware was starting to scratch off (while the lock is attached to the ring hardware...) >_<. I'm kind of discouraged at buying this bag since there are so many fakes and the quality is not so great.

I have two Paddingtons, one from Neimans and one from Bergdorf, and the care card is written in English, French and (what appears to be) Japanese, the round Chloe tag says Made in Italy (not Italie). Also, the bags do not have matching color hardware. One has the brushed gold lock and key and same color buckles and rivets-all uniform throughout the bag. The other has brushed gold lock, key and buckles but darker rivets. One bag has thicker, softer and smoother pebbled leather while the other has thinner, stiffer, and more wrinkled pebbled leather. Both bags are tan. You can't really go by hardware color and leather texture alone to spot a fake (unless it is a really bad fake). However, you make a valid point that no one is going to sell a real Paddington for $800 thus her bag is most likely fake.

As for your peeling hardware, there are posts about placing one of the leather tabs from the end of the zippers between the lock and plate to minimize scratching and peeling. I undo the zippers on my bag, use the tab, and just let the weight of the lock keep it closed.
