Chloe Paddington Bags (February 2005 - March 2010)

I can not beleive it. My choc brown lock is all chipped and more then 1/2 the silver underneath is showing. All the buckles are the same way. This is my second paddy to do this. The other was a creme. I am so sad. I guess these are not solid brass and just coated. ANy way I just returned it to Bergdorf. I am so upset and do not know if I should get another. This is my second one to do this and I do not use my bag that much. I used it a total of 2 weeks. I just never saw a bag wear like this before and I have owned a lot of designer bags. Has anyone heard why this is happening???

I haven't heard why - I've carried my blue for a couple of weeks and so far so good. If I were you, I would be very disappointed and upset. I bet the hardware on the new bags will be different. I even heard somewhere - on this thread maybe - the new locks will be lighter in weight. Certainly Chloe knows this has been a problem and will correct it. Maybe Bergdorf's knowing your problems with this will sell you the first one from the S/S '06 collection. I probably wouldn't buy another one from this season. So many people have reported this problem - makes me worried about what eventually will happen with mine. and to you.

So sorry to hear that Bagqueen. You are not the first to say that the lock looks coated; a friend of mine has a bag from the first season and one from pre-fall, and she said the pre-fall bag appears to have a glazed coating on the hardware versus solid brass. I have had my tan bag since August (also pre-fall) and knock wood, no peeling hardware. My hardware also looks to be brass versus having a glazed coating. I am wondering if some batches were made differently and this is what is causing the problems? I keep trying to visualize this coating and would love to see two bags side by side in real life - one with brass and one with coating. I hate hearing about peeling bags, not because I think mine will peel but because I honestly feel so badly for those experiencing it. We should all be enjoying our bags, not having problems with them! BG should offer you a big discount on your next purchase!

i just wanted to ask a question about the Paddington hobo - I LOVE this bag, its so beautiful, but Im actually not 100% keen on the padlock (don't hate me!) - can anyone tell me the function of the padlock, I mean, can you use the bag without the padlock?
Im wondering if the padlock is quite heavy, and also if you need to take it off every time you open the bag? Im wondering if it might be a pain...
(sorry for the newbie qu's, but i'd need to order my hobo online, b/c its not stocked anywhere near me, so im ordering blind )

The padlock is heavy. I'm not sure how it works on the hobo but on the east/west (I think that's its name - or the satchel) - I just put the lock through one of the zipper pulls and then get in and out of the bag using the other zipper (there are two zipper tabs on the top that meet in the middle) - and that works very well. I suppose you could use the bag without the padlock however.

Also, I have a chance to preorder the zippy bowler in white from the pre-spring/summer range (already ordered in whiskey). I really want it to be an off-white, but the catalogue picture says 'white' even though it looks off white in the picture. Help..am so confused!!! Guessgirl, what is yours called?

Mine cost me about $1300 but it was used for a few weeks, very good condition though. The color I am getting is called craie I believe, but there is a new white color coming out for spring that I've heard is brighter than the older white? Maybe thats the one you saw? Chloe hasn't done any stark white colors yet so it was prabably just a naming error.

at least this one is not flung on the ground in a parking lot like many of her bags are.

I haven't heard about it but I wouldn't be surprised, they had a silver one limited edition one before. I thought the silver was very cool but I dont think the gold would be as nice, I overall much preffer silver to gold tone.

Thanks Guessgirl. It's hard to get an idea without the pics, but I thought a light gold may work so am curious.
On a separte note, wonder what this is going to be like : "dark silver is called anthracite and is a metallic charcoal grey" It's supposed be darker than the silver paddy pics Klow posted a while ago.

hey clickmekate, I don't use my padlock on the hobo. I keep it in the front pocket... I think after reading all the chipping horror stories here I was worried. but actually also it's kind of a pain in the butt being on top of the bag and kind of flopping around and I like the bag without it. I think these bags stand on their own without the locks anyway... they are such beautiful leather...

bagqueen - I had that problem too. My padlock started peeling including all the other hardware like the buckles at the side. I noticed it the 2nd time I used the bag!! It was very disappointing after having paid so much about it.

I got in touched with Chloe customer service rep and they have agreed to do a 1 for 1 exchange for a brand new paddy. So don't despair!! I haven't received my new bag yet, hopefully, it'll be like the rest without the peeling problem. *Fingers crossed*
