oh lord...fasten your seatbelts for oswald boateng....

ok those net figures make a LOT more sence now we know that for LVMH not just dior couture......phew

but still........4% of 12.5 billion (total turnover) is 500 million. and i doubt very much that 2 collections can produce that much from sales

Even if Galliano sells each piece for 100,000 then he'd have to sell 250 pieces from each collection not counting overheads and fabrication costs... :innocent:

And, like has been said, you can customize the stuff if you want it to be more wearable... As a couture client, you actually have the power to choose and decide.
yes :flower:
their job is to satisfy the cilent 5000%
whatever YOU want, YOU get.

i once read somewhere that a dior couture client was ordering a wedding dress...and wanted to look like a disney princess (i think they said belle from beauty and the beast). john galliano did his interpretation, and she was not satisfied until one was created that looked like it came out of the movie itself

There you go....what some research can do: check out the haute couture video of Christian Dior HC s/s 2003 (the chines one) and you'll hear Tim Blanks saying:
This season the house of Dior announced a 41% raise of couture sales....

Tadaaa!!!

Wait, that says sales...not profit.....*is ashamed*

You know, some (very rich...) people more or less collect haute couture; the stuff doesn't necessarily have to work at the office christmas party or even a ball...

They buy into the "art angle".

And, like has been said, you can customize the stuff if you want it to be more wearable... As a couture client, you actually have the power to choose and decide.
Good point. I don't think this justifies Galliano's extremes, because he is affecting the name of fashion when he makes things like this, but it could account for the high sales if the figures aren't lying.

That would be a surprise from Galliano.

I can see it now: models sashaying down the catwalk in elegant yet wearable gowns, with sophisticated make-up and sleek hair. The spectators would faint, the photographers would click away madly, the fashion world would be stunned. People would gasp, gossip, tell each other "I was there when John Galliano put on a tasteful show".

um...hello...

isn't everyone ignoring this fact...???!?!?!!!!

this is a COMPLETE RIP-OFF!!!!!!!!!!........EVEN DOWN TO THE MAKE-UP...I FIND THIS ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE AND UNFORGIVEABLE AT ONE OF THE BIGGEST COUTURE SHOWS IN THE WORLD>>>!!!!!!!
I'm inclined to agree that dear John seems heavily "inspired" by VW... But he's such a big name that he's practically untouchable.

Remember the Balenciaga debacle a few seasons ago? He certainly didn't get off lightly.
