Christopher Kane F/W 11.12 London

the last 5 or 6 looks are brilliant and I love the little clutches with the liquid filled plastic,
but everything else was sort of meh for me.

loved his other collections but hate this

:woot: Squiggles have never been so fashionable and appealing!!

I don't get it. The wave thingees are OK and I really like the trippy square effect, but he could have gotten those points across in 7-10 looks and been done with it. I really don't like the looks with the sheer shoulder / sheer bodices.

I dunno, Kane definitely something different and fresh here and I don't want to lose sight of that but, other than the looks with the trippy square pattern, I am not blown away with how it was presented here. I do think (hope) that if a few smart editors gets ahold of this stuff and showcases certain items it in a few good editorials that the "specialness" will come through better in that venue.

while the squiggles remain the epitome of gimmick, one must commend christopher kane for having a seemingly endless well of creativity from which to pull these ideas. it's not my favorite collection this week or even of his, but it's impressive that he can jump from leather and florals one season to **** prints and neons the next while still giving us a silhouette and cut that's increasingly becoming his own.

I loved the dresses with the sheer and cut-out details! They were fantastic!

Let’s ask a question straight out: is it too much for Christopher Kane to be working both on his own line and also with Donatella Versace? The Scottish designer’s show seemed to have all the elements to meet the fashion world’s great expectations. But without being a flop, it seemed a slight collection.

The premise, the designer said backstage, was looking back at his childhood — yet how could a 28-year-old remember lava lamps from the 1970s — unless they arrived very late in Glasgow? But the young kid’s desire for that distant waterbed and glob, glob liquid furnishings era apparently inspired a weird fashion decoration: what looked like transparent pencil cases crossed with medical drip-feed plastic bags, and placed at the hips or necklines of little black dresses. Tons of them.

“I wanted to do something more sterile. I am tired of doing decorative pieces,” Mr. Kane said. Although just how the granny crochet patchworks, in wool or printed onto leather — or maybe plastic, fitted this scenario was baffling.

A Christopher Kane show is always intriguing for its original viewpoint. But whatever imaginative creation was developing this season, it seemed to be still born.

^ Dang Suzy busted him with the lava lamps comment and other stuff.

I really love the clutch!!! He always does something different, but so inovative. Never lets down..

^I don't think that the comments about lava lamps from Suzy are fair. I am 23 and I remember in my childhood lava lamps had a huge revival. They were everywhere in the mid-90s. Kane may not be drawing from the 70s, but he could be drawing from the 90s obsession with the 70s.

I love this collection so much. The gel is so weird and creative and different, but at the same time it looks good. Its not just different, but its beautiful. However, I can't help but think that eventually that plastic will get dried and brittle and break. The gel will leak, etc. I can't imagine these pieces preserving.

There is something superhero-ish about this look

This collection is very interesting conceptually, and there are many pieces I love and would wear immediately. But there are others that I am not entirely keen on, for e.g., the crochet look of some items is too grandma like for me - and it reminds me of House of Holland.

Overall, though, another statement collection from C. Kane.

I actually think it is a pretty boring collection
there are some ok pieces, but overall its a bit blah to me

I agree I think suzy was a little unreasonable with her statements. and I didnt get what she was suggesting by discussing versus.

I have never seen anything like that! This is really interesting and fresh. I like this collection but how are you supposed to wear some of the pieces with a transparent top area

The early crochet/knits are incredibly unflattering but I'm loving the fluid plastic trimmed dresses. The buttoned collars feel a bit Prada perhaps?

Yaaaayyyy Kaneyyy I love you! Another super collection; all of the dresses are beautiful and I love all of the little details. Nice clutches, too!

The cluthes and heels have grown on me.

It seems that there's no end to Kane's creativity.
I like it how he keeps it simple yet original and interesting from a very different perspective. The garments are not easy to wear but they're distinctively Kane and contemporary. This is unexpected but I love his unexpectedness. It makes me look forward to his next collection and the one after that and the one after that...

I'm sorry but Suzy hit the nail on the head. Now mind you, I LOVE Christopher Kane, his creativity and the way he mixes references are always interesting.

HOWEVER, it's not the 2 subjects, afghans and lava lamps that I hate. It's the two subjects TOGETHER.

The collection seems disjointed like 2 separate collections on 1 runway.

I wish he pushed it further to seamlessly blend the 2 subjects together. Imagine if he was able to mimick the crochet technique in the plastic, with the liquid as an added surprise?
