Costume Institute Gala 2008 "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy"

and also zac posen, kate mara, and carol trentini fitted the theme dont forget them!

After looking at all of these, my favourite is actually Lisa Airan...it is very superheroish while at the same time, still being elegant. Only her, a handful of other socialites, or a model could have pulled it off.

I'm not liking Raquel's dress but at least she did something with the makeup...

LOL at ALT with the giant cape...again.

Also, why is Lake Bell there? And Piper Perabo? I couldn't pick them out of a police lineup of B list actresses

And Kate Mara? Why is she there?

Some on this board have questioned why Beyonce and Eva Mendes are there. Why not?

I think because they are like celebrities, but I really think more models should go to the event, All the VS ones should at least heidi, alessandra and adriana, maybe marisa and miranda, well lets take izabel and selita and we will have all the angels hahahaha

Kate Mara is there because she's a young actress looking for exposure and her family is filthy rich and powerful, owning the Superbowl Champion NY Giants in partnership with the owner of CBS...The people at the Met and Conde Nast need football tickets, too!! :woot: B)

why is beyonce there? she isn't stylish in the least and her clothing brand is a joke, in my opinion. i would have rather seen the likes of kim kardashian there than beyonce.

My point is why shouldn't anyone of these beautiful women be there? What's with the elitist attitude(not directed at anyone in particular) about who has a right to attend or not. They're all connected to the fashion industry/Hollywood in some way or another.

The fashion industry IS elitist, that's why the invite list shouldn't prehaps been a little more discriminating. Hollywood is not the fashion industry.

^^ Yeah!! Next thing you know these people will be expecting them to put actresses on the cover of Vogue, for God's sake!!
Oh, wait a minute...I take that back... :innocent:

T\ Hollywood is not the fashion industry.

No it isn't, but the fashion industry is being fueled by it. People all over the world will notice a dress because Gwyneth, Beyonce or whichever superstar is wearing it. Hollywood does bring fashion to the average person, this is the reality.

Anyway I loved Christina Ricci, Diane Kruger and Thandie Newton. They had fun with the theme and looked amazing.

i think that there are actresses who merit a vogue cover and invitations to these galas, but they are few and far between and unfortunately, not the actresses that currently have a vogue cover underneath their belt because unfortunately, u.s. vogue does not seem to appreciate talent and beauty as must as they appreciate the term, "sex sells." they will plastered gwyn paltrow on vogue because she is a young and sexy mom, but won't place susan sarandon or meryl streep on their covers who are older, yes, but amazingly talented and very beautiful for their ages.

that's the problem.

the day i see beyonce, or eva mendes on a vogue cover, i'll cry, i think. and has cameron diaz had a vogue cover? if she has, jesus... that's horrible, too.

as much as i loved seeing people such as blake lively and michelle t. there, i also do not understand why they were there, aside from playing the roles of fashion forward high schoolers on gossip girl.

so, why wasn't meryl there, or helen m.? where was audrey t.? as a matter of fact, why hasn't audrey been given a vogue cover? (or has she. i can't remember everything. my memory is crap.) she's beautiful, young and fresh faced, and extremely talented.

Beyonce is musician:wink:
This isn't just about "fashion," the institute is high fashion, elitist, la creme de la creme, and for the most part something that the "average person" pays absolutely no attention. This gala is for the highly fashionable to get together and celebrate exactly that. It's not about bringing fashion to the average person.

I think you're right in that they do over look older actresses who are beautiful and stylish. They also over look women of color. So the day I see Beyonce or Eva or Ziyi on the cover I think I'll will cry too. I'm no a super fan of Beyonce, but I've seen mediocre actresses put on Vogue for far less than what she's achieved (hello Kate Hudson), and the woman does have an iconic look whether one likes her or not.

Anyway I'll stop here as this is not really the place to discuss this.:flower:
