Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

I also wonder what he thinks of Michele and Gvasalia...Considering that he has been quite vocal about loving Margiela when Margiela was still there.

I'm sure he is talking about Raf when he is talking about "creative directors".

At least, we that in mind, we can guess who he will choose to succeed him at Chanel...^_^

Karl has been so supportive of so many designers...The only designers he has criticized where Saint Laurent, Alaia & Christophe Decarnin.

He criticized Decarnin ?! Why ? I'll look into this haha

ETA :
His thoughts on Christophe Decarnin leaving Balmain: "Forget about it! This was a job done by a fashion editor. I don’t even know the name of the man who did it, so don’t ask me about that."

Umm ok that's nothing lol

I bet the philosophical designers he is talking about are Michele, Gvasalia and the entire Vetements following trope. The guys that need a whole file just to explain the reason behind a collection.

Even though I'm not a fan of Karl and I think of him as an old peacock... I give him this: he has a no bullsh*t relationship with fashion and the market.

I'm not surprised, tbh. Always knew it would be an American old guard (I bet on RL and CH). Great for RL, I suppose. Not that he needed the sales at all.

I don't know is it already been posted here or not before but I just saw this episode just now and Marc Jacobs was one of the guest judge on this episode and they were talking about one of the contestant that made her dress only with the glue gun and Marc said something like "I don't care about the glue gun conspiracy, and it's everywhere...even at MET Gala" LOL
I kinda wanna know which designers did that

Internet Drama:lol:

There are some designers now—and I’m thinking of Virgil Abloh at Off-White, Demna Gvasalia with Vetements, Gosha Rubchinskiy—who are connecting with the youth through fashion in a new way. Are there any young designers today that inspire or excite you?
Yes.
Anyone in particular?
Not Off-White. He’s a sweet guy. I like him a lot actually. But I’m inspired by people who bring something that I think has not been seen, that is original. It’s not always about being new-new because who is new-new? And of course you have to have people who inspired you. I’m not just trying to be politically correct here—trying to be nice and sweet about people because that’s what we’re always supposed to do when these questions come up in interviews—but honestly, are you asking me if I think that these people are inspired by my brand?
I think they absolutely are.
Fashion doesn’t exist if we don’t exist.
Because in the fashion world, and especially in the high court, but I’m sure with all the young kids online, who talk a lot, when they say it, it’s ok. But when the designers themselves say something like that, it’s not ok. I don’t know if you read the interview I did with Miuccia [Prada], but the only topic we talked about was that. Because we are the only ones who are supposed to shut up. And we suffer from that. And I know it’s the same thing for Marc [Jacobs]. I know it’s the same thing for Phoebe [Philo]. We all feel like we have to shut up. But we are the activators. I hate to talk about this because it always makes you sound pretentious, but we are the activators. Fashion doesn’t exist if we don’t exist. But it’s possible that the ones who talk will not exist. So I find that it’s a very difficult thing to talk about.
If it comes to somebody like Demna, I think he knows what he is. What I liked about it is almost what everybody hates about it now. That it was going back to something that I like: Martin Margiela and myself. You know, to have the guts to go so direct. Because it’s what people like. People like Martin. They love Martin. And people like youth and that rebellion feel. And all these things are what he brought. But you cannot escape from it. He knows it himself as well. It’s been there for many decades at Martin. Oversized hoodies with text prints. It’s been there.
Now, that’s not a critique. At all. I think he’s a smart one. And I think there will be things coming up. I don’t think you can compare him at all to the guy from Off-White. So I cannot talk about these people in the same way.

And Virgil Abloh "responded"...

Firstly Lola, thanks for posting! But I had no idea what was going on or who the interview was with because you didn't post a heading. Nor a source.

I found his responses exasperating. He just cannot open his mouth without sing like some pretentious prat. It's nice that he's at least self-concious about it, but that doesn't help much.
Half of the time he tried (and failed) to justify his freedom of speech. Here the scope so much bigger. He should rail against the construct of society, his employer, about the state of politics, these are what is contributing to political correctness, with the latter ultimately muffling his voice.

Another part which frustrates me is when he becomes declares himself spokesperson for Prada, Margiela, Philo etc. State your cause, and move along! Namechecking your clique won't give your argument more credibility. It actually makes you look spineless. Karl Lagerfeld has proved that it's possible to have very warped opinions and still be revered. Granted, he is in charge of a brand which sells on it's own, but still.

I am now keen to see how exactly Raf will handle his tenure at CK. The core of CK was always youth, always. And here he talks about the demographic with such sneer. I loathe this forced 'youth direction' in brands probably as much as he does, but I'm not the one who signed a multi-million dollar deal to market a youth brand.

I love Raf but he is hilarious. I feel like no one even really thinks that Phoebe, Marc or Miuccia need to shut up because they don't really ramble that much. Raf, on the other hand, really needs someone in his life to tell him to shut up.

I found him really annoying in this interview. I rolled my eyes so much by reading it and honestly, it was the first time i was like "ugh Raf just close your mouth". For someone who doesn't like to be interviewed i think he has a lot of interviews in his hands unlike other designers...

Lynn Yaeger wrote this in an article titled "How Do You Shop in a Time of Profound Anxiety?", posted yesterday on the Vogue website.

It is worth noting that Adichie is responsible for the “We Should All Be Feminists” slogan that rocked the tees on Valentino’s runway last fall.

I am not sure whether it's subtle shade or an honest mistake but either way it's a clear indication of what the fashion world thinks of Chiuri's Dior.

Valentino's runway? Not very good shade when you can't even get the brand right.

It's shade because Dior looks so much like Valentino now, might as well call it Valentino.

Well I think he has a point though. Not only the garments but the entire show looks similar. That's shameful, especially when you consider Plein copies other designers as well.

Plus he's disgustingly tacky and I hate the brand

Phillip Plein is ruthless. I kinda like his way of doing.
He is tacky and so is his brand but with his money, he is doing whatever he wants.
He hired Carine to have some High Fashion credibility, he pays celebs to wear his clothes and attend his shows and he has no shame copying Wang, hiring people from Dolce & Gabbana...etc.

Wang should not forget that here on TFS, we have a huge record of him copying Tom Ford and Nicolas Ghesquiere. He needs to chill...

Le chat chapoté...

Also, with a show as tacky as Plein's, I wouldn't even dare to throw my name in if I were Wang.
