Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

We have the same policy at my office in Australia for anyone who has been to Italy or Asia. Can't imagine it was good for fashion week!

Makes perfect sense to me! Wanted to visit my dad in HK this summer but that's not happening, and I very much doubt he'll travel at all.
Italy really dropped the ball on this one. no surprise there. Thanks to them we now have two more positive infections in the UK. I mean, everyone always used to make light of their porous borders and overall lax attitude, but this is far from child's play.

Yet I do find it interesting how public health scares always bring out the worst in humankind. I'm talking about the overall pandemonium where people in my area go to Belfast for a weekend and come back clogging up doctor's appointments and stocking up on sanitiser, gloves and masks in bulk, therefore, limiting supplies for crucial medical needs.

I think this shaking in the friendship between Naomi and Edward is true, she always posted something about people's birthday on her Instagram, on Edward's birthday she didn't post anything and there were some celebrations for him in Milan and Paris with some models, she hasn't been to any parties!

Do we have updates on the Mario Testino cases?

Really do wanna know what happened in these cases. Were they settled? Were the cases dismissed? I think the public ought to know

Can someone explain what the odd, one-sided fued brewing between Diet Prada and WWD is about. I don't follow them religiously, but it seems every time I'm on that page there's something disdainful about WWD on that page. Or, maybe it's just a slow month for fashion drama because you don't need 10 Instastory slides AND a post to illustrate your point.

This is something young designers especially need to be careful of. It is very easy to get caught up in your own hype. I’ll give you an example. During the last New York Fashion Week, there was a new designer that was being talked about by everyone. The young prodigy. What I noticed, upon further inspection, was that it was actually the stylist he was working with, who wanted to position herself as a “supporter of new talent.” It was a very famous stylist, and the entire show was basically a PR stunt for her. The designer then needed to deal with all the attention, but they didn’t have the capacity or experience to handle it.

Does anyone know who this might be?!

Did anyone catch Hugo Comte's coronavirus meltdown on Instagram? Way to downplay the situation. Something tells me we might not see any more VI covers from him in the future lol

It was a while ago, but if I remember correctly, he posted a series of frantic stories how more people die each day from hunger and AIDS than from corona and we need to focus on that. I mean that's true, yes, but it doesn't make the whole corona situation less serious.

Vogue Says Sorry to Jessica Simpson for Sally Singer’s Comments

Simpson accused the former Vogue staffer of body-shaming her in a Vogue article on the history of the Met Gala.

By Kathryn Hopkins on May 5, 2020

Vogue has apologized for former staffer Sally Singer’s comments about Jessica Simpson after the actress and singer slammed her on Instagram.

Singer, who stepped down as Vogue’s creative digital director last year, contributed to the fashion publication’s piece Monday titled “Only at the Met: An Oral History of the World’s Most Glamorous Gala” and she had a lot to say about Simpson’s breasts.

“One year Jessica Simpson was there with John Mayer. She was wearing Michael Kors and her breasts maybe fell out of her dress on the red carpet…at dinner it was suddenly like, whoa, Jessica Simpson’s breasts are across from me at the dinner table and they are on a platter and I’m looking at them,” Singer said, recalling the 2007 Met Gala when she was sat at the same table as Simpson. The gown was in fact by Roberto Cavalli.

“And John Mayer was putting his hands on them at the dinner table. He kind of reached down and I just remember thinking, ‘Oh, celebrities, feel free to play here. That’s what’s going on’,” she continued.

Simpson was certainly not pleased with the comment, taking to Instagram to accuse Singer of body shaming.

“Feeling a little like Jayne Mansfield after reading this (inaccurate!) oral history of the #MetBall where I am body shamed by #SallySinger,” she said next to an image of Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren. “But in all seriousness I have persevered through shaming my own body and internalizing the world’s opinions about it for my entire adult life. To read this much-anticipated article about the classiest fashion event there is and have to be shamed by another woman for having boobs in 2020 is nauseating.”

A Vogue representative said the publication was sorry that Simpson felt body-shamed by the anecdote. “That was never our intent, but we understand her reaction and we apologize for including it.”

The vogue.com article was meant to be a celebration of the Met Gala, which was held virtually Monday for the first time in 72 years.

This is not the first time Singer, who could not be reached for comment, has gotten into hot water for her comments. In 2016, she accused fashion bloggers who attended Milan Fashion Week of “heralding the death of style” for changing their outfits every hour.

Huh... to me those comments about Simpson's cleavage come off more as sl*t-shaming than body-shaming, which is disgusting, especially coming from another woman.
It's also laughable that she made a mistake crediting the designer of the dress writing for a fashion magazine. The dress literally screams Cavalli and a quick Google search shows Simpson posing with Cavalli on the red carpet. If you can't be bothered to do a simple research for your silly harmless anectode, then don't bother mentioning it.
And also, Jessica's breasts looked great in that dress. Dry up, Singer, you great prude.

It's weird she would share her 2007 judgement for a 2007 context knowing how it's all changed post social media and Kim Kardashian. Now Jessica Simpson's presence and dress looks so tame because we've seen infinitely worse, the Met Gala has dramatically changed (less NYFW-type of gowns, more gimmicks and shock factor) and the new lows we've reached are always packaged as 'body positivity!' 'let's not criticize, let's just UPLIFT each other!'. So with no room for being remotely critical about sartorial codes, everything and anything gets a pass.. which brings us to our present state.

Truth is, for its time, the limited amount of celebrities that were unapologetically vulgar and controversial (Paris, Britney, Lindsay) and how uniformed and boring most celebrities and all models were, Jessica's sole appearance in addition to what she chose to wear, contrasted big time with the event and was considered awful.. if she showed up wearing that now, she would be barely mentioned as basic and forgettable.

TFS may be less active now but the line of criticism has always been more or less the same (members tend to have similar opinions and then, less filtered ones) and at the time, Jessica generated 3 pages (!) of criticism that looked like this..

That "Guy" tugging at Jessica Simpson is Roberto Cavalli. I dont think she looks horrendously bad, thats just her perception of glamour: bossoms in full view;

Seriously, what were most people thinking (I'm looking especially at you Jessica Simpson)? You'd think people would at least choose colors that flatter them! And cuts too for that matter.

Ok no more j simpson pics... we don't need anymore torture

jessica simpson should not be allowed at any "fashionable" event ever again.

especially Jessica Simpson. I'm really starting to be embarrassed for her.:yuk:

omg
I'm going to send pictures of Jessica Simpson to all the people I hate.

But the trashiest of the night goes to Jess Simpson and her girls.

Jessica Simpson is just downright..inappropriate?

What the hell is wrong with Jessica Simpson?

worst; jessica simpson: hands down, no contest. this proves that she's blind

Jessica Simpson...what can I say...she looks like a gutter rat. Red lips and leather skin never mix, and whomever allowed her to wear that dress should be fined...heavily. Had I been working the door at the event, I would have revoked her invitation.

I really like the way mary-kate looks. Clean and not trashy like Jessica simpson who looks like trash.

maybe lock jessica simpson in a bathroom cause nobody should put up with what she's wearing!! (I honestly would have turned her away)

I can't put into words how ridiculous she looks/is.

and Jessica simpson? I'm pretty sure Jessica simpson wins hands down worst dressed.

Jessica Simpson...everytime I look at her I'm more amazed than ever. And not in a good way.

Jessica Simpson. Dang.

jessica simpson :ninja::sick::yuk:

Eww..Jessica Simpson is truly ugly, no doubt about it.

jessica simpson is officially out of her mind.

jessica simpson looks like she had a tanning accident and hwy is she even invited,?

I know, I can't believe they would allow her to go; she has no fashion sense. People like her attending will give this event a bad rep.

As for Jessica Simpson: horrible dress, horrible shade of lipstick, horrible tan. Shall I continue? Why is she there, ugh.

Jessica Simpson?????? Thats it for me, I am signing off
Good night!

I can't even bring myself to post Jessica Simpson because she truly looks like a hooker :yuk:

So yeah.. I can understand Sally's reaction at the time.. it's just pointless to still go about it almost 15 years later, times have changed, it doesn't matter and it's not really anecdotal unless you talk about context, too...

That was my thinking as well. I mean, Lainey Gossip referred to Jessica as 'Porny' for years, and Nicole Kidman as Granny Freeze to allude to her botox injections, Renee Zellweger as Squinty, and said that one could 'count the number of gangbangs Pamela Anderson had on her face alone' ....

That certainly misses the point that we a) completely missed the contact tracing boat wrt HIV/AIDS (due to political pressure as I understand it) and shouldn't do so again with this virus and b) we have had a huge focus on HIV that has resulted in enormous progress. That certainly doesn't mean we should take our eye off this new pandemic.

Additionally, this virus is on track to significantly magnify all the problems we already have with hunger. Unless we get it under control, never mind interruptions to the 1st world supply chain, famine of 'biblical proportions' is being predicted. So, completely off the mark if you ask me ...

Jing Daily, the fashion equivalent of China Daily (a national newspaper), is at it again. It's not that there's no Asian designer on the list, there actually is, it's that there's no Chinese designer on the list....

Chinese Designers in UK to Face COVID-19 Unsupported
Despite the contribution of Chinese designers to the UK’s economy, China’s designers are missing from the BFC’s first round of COVID-19 support relief.

What Happened:

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced the first round recipients of its newly created BFC Foundation Fashion Fund. The financial support will be given to 37 businesses from a one million pound emergency grant that will re-open for further rounds of applications when a £500,000 milestone is reached. The endowment aims to support creative fashion businesses and individuals “based in the UK” depending on their urgency and capability to come through and thrive post COVID-19 crisis.

The Jing Take:

Interestingly, despite the considerable contribution China’s emerging designers make to the UK’s economy through education, costly visa applications, and business operations — not to mention holding their shows and presentations at London Fashion Week — there are no Chinese names listed in this timely first round. Moreover, China’s independent designers, who reside and work in the UK, are not receiving any Chinese state support during this period. And now, at least for the first round of funding, they will also miss out on much needed financial support to get through this crisis from the country where their businesses are located and pay taxes.

In addition, in order to make this lifeline possible, the BFC has combined pre-existing sponsorship pools including some from JD.com. China’s e-commerce giant took on the BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund in 2019, signing a two-year deal. The tie-up helps British talent in the Chinese market (which is already in recovery mode) and encourages Chinese consumer interest in London brand names. When JD.com’s deal with the BFC is up for renewal, it will be interesting to see if they instead divert funds back to mainland designers, who are being left to tackle this crisis unsupported.

LOL, wouldn't be a shock for those of us who frequent this thread. He has shown his true colours before.
I'm more amazed that he chose to donate this pittance AND made it public. One could argue that it's insulting........ the idea to donate what 'the everyday man' can afford right now when socio-economically speaking, he's way above 'the average man.' Better off not donating anything, really.
