Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Don’t know whether this goes in the models or the designers thread lol but Rick Owens’s plaything Tyrone is gonna be launching his own brand under owenscorp soon apparently

Ok sorry here I am again with another tidbit on Rick Owens lol

I really don't know how I started down this rabbit hole, but I came across this rich young guy from Indonesia who had a handbag produced for his fashion label made from alligator tongue and an "ethically sourced" human child's spine. Of course that is an oxymoron, but I looked a little further and he actually meets with (and has people meet with) indigenous tribes and traffickers from all over the world and exploits them for creepy photos, bones, skin, body parts, etc etc for his "edgy" fashion projects. His instagram is private now, but the pictures were f*cking insane. Like I'm actually pretty disturbed. Anyways, I realized I had seen this kid in photos recently, because he was hanging out with Michèle Lamy, Rick Owens, Kanye West, etc etc this past fashion week in Paris for menswear. And after seeing even more photos with him and Michèle from the past, it looks like he is a big client and friend-by-donation type kid. I am kind of completely turned off from Rick and Michèle and all those people by this. I can't even really get a proper sentence out here. A man in Brazil was just arrested for trafficking organs and he recently shipped a human hand and 3 placentas to this kid. This kid is that wealthy that he grew up and doesn't understand harvesting human parts for instagram and fashion is f*cking crazy. And people like Rick Owens look past it to take his money and have lunch with him? No more Rick Owens for me. Sorry. Lost all respect. I know celebrities let rich people pay for their kids to meet/hang out with them, but this is way too f*cking creepy.

I always viewed Rick as just like some pretentious egomaniac selling $8000 plywood chairs. Michele always creeped me out after I heard her daughter talk about her mother/daughter relationship. Maybe I am just having a late night manic freakout lol but they are starting to seem really scary. Like are they really that devoid of scruples for the sake of new age art and alternative living sh*t?

Good lord... But not surprised.

I prefer to stick to anatomical lithographs, Weegee's crime scene imagery and Hollywood Babylon as my sordid and grotesque references.

There's a lot of articles on this person though. Simply looking up "alligator tongue bag" and you're set (and also can see how easy it is to get stuck in a rabbit hole). Their Instagram also isn't private anymore, and reeks of exploitation. Can see why Rick and Michele like him so much.

So did Garrett whatsisface from the UK.

Funny story in the NY Post here about how how some influencers are leveraging the Russian invasion to move product.

Influencer Daniella Bernstein trumpets how her "team" made a 250K donation - the revised post states a 5k donation. Turns out she hosted an online event where another brand made the donation - not her.

Have any big brands stopped sales in Russia or restricted sales? All these brands putting out social media posts to support Ukraine but then sending their clothes off to Russia for their oligarch clients is really hypocritical and not a great look for an industry that has almost zero social responsibility.

Pretty disappointing to see big fashion brands exempt from EU sanctions purely to appease the Russian oligarchs. Again shows how sanctions only harm the average people and not the ones in power.

So going on from my last post LVMH is deleting comments calling for a boycott to Russia on their social media. They've pledged 5 million euros to Ukraine. What a pathetic response. 200 million euro to Notre Dame the day it happened yet takes a week to say they'll send 5m euro to the conflict in Ukraine. Pathetic. It's disgusting how fashionistas are turning a blind eye or just doing surface level social media posts. Models, editors, photographers, make up artists, and all other professions should boycott fashion brands still willing to sell in Russia. Bottom line is that it's the oligarchs who are the clients of these big brands and they're the ones who profit off Putin. Not the average Russian.

Why european brands should donate? It was not an earthquake or something, it is a war started by person. If someone should donate, it is all these russian companies and oligarchs, if they want to save their faces. And it is too early to talk about the end of war, as, it seems, Putin is not scared of sanctions, or cares about average people in Russia

H&M temporarily suspended all sales in Russia yesterday

Acne Studios and Nanushka stopped sales in Russia. Same with Net-A-Porter and Nike, they won't send anything there. To go even further, according to BOF, Russia makes 2-3% share of the luxury market so it's not like the brands would actually loose that much money. It's the matter of being as inoffensive as possible. However, I think we've already approached the moment to pick a side and people won't be satisfied with mere promises anymore.

Probably because there's no tax-break for donating to Ukraine. I mean, supposedly LVMH didn't get one for donating to Notre Dame, but... :innocent:

I don't know about French law, but here there certainly is. The Red Cross Ukraine fund is a top suggestion (what I donated to so far), and that's definitely tax deductible in the US.

People need help, it doesn't matter why. Crazy climate, crazy dictator ... it's an emergency and people need humanitarian aid. Not understanding the confusion here

she’s a joke, that’s proven… but the fact that I’m seeing so many of this repeatedly, what a shame

I kind of agree with this in a way that why should anyone expect a fashion brand to be an active force? Like do you realize what and who these companies are for? I saw someone criticize Giorgio Armani for holding a silent show out of respect for Ukraine, and people were calling that useless and performative. ? It was just a simple respectful gesture. He's not making it a selling point. Who f*cking cares. What do you expect from him. He's Giorgio Armani. He sells 5/6/7 figure suits and gowns to rich people. Horrific atrocities of war have been going on in the presence of fashion companies for decades. Sorry for the whataboutism but when tf other occasion have these brands been helping victims of war. At this stage in the game it is easy to find out they didn't grow their businesses helping people. It's more performative to me if a western corporation/conglomerate actually pretends to give a f*ck about what happens to people in Ukraine and Russia as if they aren't benefitting from this war greatly.

Something about the cAnCeL aLl tHinGs RuSsIaN!!1! doesn't quite sit well with me. It reeks of privilege. Like.. I'm glad you live in a country enjoying a solid (lol) sociopolitical stage where someone with the mind of a 5 year old can split everything into good and bad, angels and devils, cause it's that great and morally sound!, but the reality is a lot more complex in some other countries.. you don't just openly "oppose" and condemn an administration (that looks more like a dictatorship) that surveils your family and knows exactly where they live and work and that has been unapologetically poisoning critics and opponents in broad daylight. The idea that if you don't oppose, you therefore support and whatever you do for a living should then be exterminated.. is just.. revolting, in addition to being such an embarrassing, simple-minded, selfish mentality. I keep reading things like 'the conductor at the Munich Philharmonic did not oppose... SO WE FIRED HIM!'... wow, bravo, going after the artists, cause you know, never in history have artists been directly 'moderated' by their governments, becoming allergic to the sole mention of a Russian is just the kind of thing that will debilitate Putin's regime and make him second guess just why oh why is he in Ukraine in the first place..? he's been treating his own people with tons of affection and respect for so many years so I'm sure he'll give a f*ck AND STOP.

Just hope that when the tables are turned (and they will because.. conflict in the West is pleonasm), no one cancels you for living in a country where Le Pen or Paul Golding inexplicably rose to power.

/rant lol. Also: yeah, a luxury brand supporting, condemning, erasing their ig grid.. ugh.. so glad! I really wanted a new pair of Balenciaga sunglasses just wasn't sure where they stood in the conflict!

LVMH group is only donating 5 million euros? There are rumours that Chiara Ferragni was paid 1 million for plugging LVMH shoes in Fall 2021 for a campaign.
