Do you walk / run for exercise?

I walk a lot and fast. started this summer when some **** stole my bicycle and I didn't want to pay for a ten minutes bus ride 2€. since I am always late I was always nearly running the whole way for like 15 min and got quite addicted to it. so I made a routine of walking very fast for like at least 30 min daily. it's quite gentle and not so bad for the knees like running but still improves your blood circulation etc and you spend time at the fresh air
but I don't think it's enough want to loose weight, austin. maybe running would be better for you. if you don't feel up to it now start with walking really fast and if you feel already comfortable with it always increase the time and intensity until you are running.
I don't believe in diets. the best way to loose weight is to do sports ( best sport is the one you enjoy most - never mind at what you burn more calories, if you don't ike it you will stop doing it sooner or later in most cases) and eat mostly healthy stuff. no junk - cook low fat (what means use resonable amounts of it , not none), eat lots of fruit insted of sweets don't forget the vegetables and indulge from time to time controlled - like one piece of cake a week. But this takes lots of discipline and even more patience.
btw am I the only one who thinks that these no carbs trend is crap?

im so lazy all i can be bothered doing is getting on the mini stepper in my room so my butt doesnt become big enough to take over the world

There are so many diets that work and so many that dont... each individual adapts differently...

one girl may be carb intollerent which means that all the carbs she eats will go straight to fat... while another may stay thin eating normal...

i think how you have treated your body in the past has alot to do with it... i just think there are so many different view pionts on weight these days... and diets... each may or may not work on different bodies... ie people that have taken diet pills in the past may not have completely healthy bowls so its best to avoid some things... those who drink alot too

:flower: its good to see someone likes carbs... if it works for you stay with it

Impossible. All humans have the enzymes which break down carbohydrates to simple sugars, it's not like lactase which is kind of a bonus-feature...

Eep. Lol I'd be so embarrased to run down through my neighborhood.

And are Ramen noodles healthy? :innocent:

And I think the carbs trend is crap too. As soon as you stop doing the diet, you gain all the weight back. I lost like 20 lbs on it, then stopped, because I love bread and grains and stuff, and gained it all back (plus some even). its really ridiculous.

there is atkins alternative which is called keto, its very similar. atkins you only count your carbs, where in keto you limit your carbs to like 20-30 but you count your fats and proteins, and the last 1 and half days of the week you have a carb load up day reversing the carb and fats, taking in tons of carbs and less fats. i can explain further detail if you like. and austin carb diets are not crap. the only thing i can think of why you gained it all back is that you didnt do a steady increase of your carbs, i bet you just stopped and scarfed down a whole bunch of carbs. what do yout hink is going to happen when your body has been starved of carbs and there is no glycogen or insulin spikes and all of a sudden you just start downing carbs.

*nods* :P

I love walking, is cheap (you just need a pair of sneakers) and is really comforting and relaxing

I used to walk/run obsessively, but since i'm recover from anorexia, my parents won't let me until I'm healthy.

I don't - I stay in shape no matter what I eat or do.
You mean you stay slim. Because there is no way you are "in shape" doing whatever and eating whatever.

I used to walk/jog for an hour or so a day. Then winter came along with the -20 temperature and the foot of snow overnight. So long exercise!

I walked for three days, then the weather turned bitter cold and now I'm going to have to start all over again.

I don't. I hate running and sports in gerenal :yuk:. But I know I need to start doing some exercise to stay healthy, so I'm planning on starting to run or something soon. My friend and I were planning on going to the gym last weekend, but that got cancelled. Hopefully we can do it sometime this weekend though!

I used to be pretty big into running but I got really terrible shin splints that turned into a stress fracture..I couldn't hardly walk, I was on crutches for 3-4 weeks..it sucked big time. I guess that's what happens when you start out too quickly and run for miles at a time on paved roads when your body is not ready for it..

do any of you runners have tips for getting rid of shin splints? i was told just to stop running for awhile, and i did (for about two months) but now my shin splints are coming back and it is quite painful!

i actually think my body despises cardio - i have to trick it into doing it....so I will do stuff like skate, swim, snowboard mostly to work my muscles or else walk at the park and go on the swings because I hate running...or else I shop....I'm a fast walker when I'm motivated
