Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows *Warning - Thread WILL Contain Spoilers*

wheneveriwakeup -- you have got a point. harry & luna... i didn't even think about it. but, she did seem to really "get" harry more than ginny seemed to have. i always kind of envisioned luna & neville being together. haha. they could search for those weird plants and animals she says exist -- but apparently don't? in the book. hah. that'd be cute.

why?

Luna's a little too oddball for Harry.

She could be incredibly condescending @ times. Selfish, too. I suppose you could call her fiesty or precocious but it never felt that way to me. Harry's reasons for loving her were so irrelevant, too. She was 'tough' and 'beautiful'. That is all we are told throughout the book.

Luna is odd, yes, but in contrast to Harry's steadfast manner, it was a lovely blend. She decompressed Harry and he, in turn, grounded her a bit. She would've been too odd for Neville. I can't really say with Dean Thomas, as we never got to know him all that well. He supposedly has an interesting backstory, though, so perhaps it fits in J.K.'s mind.

Had J.K. chopped off a bit of the camping angle, all of these unanswered questions could have been properly addressed. However, the camping storyline seemed very psychological. Truly exposed the psyches of the trio.

^^ i agree about the camping bit. you really got to focus on the three of them and their relationship together without other people butting in.

^^ through his portrait in the headmaster's office at hogwarts. hogwart's headmasters who have passed away must always help the current hogwart's headmaster. so that's how dumbledore would be able to speak to snape -- through his portrait.
:woot::heart: So I know I'm sounding clueless  but how come sirius cant talk through a portrait or something.. does that portrait mean their somewhat 'alive'??

I think that to have an "alive" photos the person has to have been a "famous" wizard who "invented a certain spell/charm" or sat on heaps of wizard "boards. Well respected in the community. Like one of the ex headmaster also had a photo at St Mungos (OoTP). He must have done something for the hospital.

I think maybe the Blacks were just up themselves and had other pics that connected to their home to show off.

I don't think that Harry's only reasons for loving Ginny was that she was "tough" and "beautiful". He loved her because Ginny could understand him, she was able to understand that she's not the most important thing in Harry's life. I suppose not many girls would let Harry to go like her. Ginny was really selfless, she deserved Harry, she loved him from the first moment...
And about Luna... Harry never felt anything like lreal ove towards her. Of course he loved her, but just as a friend he felt regret towards her.

About the snape loving harry thing...
i think that quote (posted on the previous page) where snape casts his patronus and dumbledore's eyes fill with tears, is supposed to specifically show that snape only loved lily, however i do believe that he came to care for harry but theres no way it was love; it was obligatory feelings in place of the love he felt for lily. he would not have been able to completely protect harry if he didnt feel something for him, however we know how much harry was like his father in looks and personality and snape could not overcome the huge reminder that harry was- that james had lily, had the life that snape deeply wanted and that lily died to protect harry.

Neville as Herbology professor and Luna could teach Care of Magical Creatures when Hagrid was gone... They could talk about which plants to use to lure a Crumple Nosed Snorkak and how to properly grow dirigible plums.:blush:

Just read this on the IMDB about the relationships between H&G and R&H. I think it's very interesting and I couldn't have said it better myself so I won't clame it as my own lol.

The question was - Was anyone else disappointed at how little Ginny was mention in the book. Also how she and Harry had very little contact. OK she gave him a birthday kiss but he hardly spoke to her at all after that. Even at the wedding they never dance. They didn't even get to say good-bye. Even Ron and Hermonie the book hints about their feelings but they don't even kiss until almost the end. I really loved the book but I can't help feel a little cheated in the romance department.

The answer - Me too & I agree to an extent. But I think JKR wanted to show us that Harry hadn't quite grasped his true feelings for her & hadn't ever had a real chance to while the burden of facing Voldemort & possibly ending up dead was first on the agenda. Their moments together, his feelings for her & her feelings but acceptance of his mission & what it meant for them was done brilliantly.

I loved the birthday kiss! It was so much more than "a kiss"!! It showed Ginny letting Harry know that she's accepting of what he must do in the way he wants to do it (ie her having nothing to do with it & out of the way) but that she's letting him know that she likes him & wants to be with him anyway. She's really brave because I think she also wanted to find out where he stood towards her. Maybe she was a little unsure as to how they broke up. Did he want to simply keep her safe or was that just as excuse?

After the kiss, she keeps her distance herself knowing that it's the right thing to do & out of respect for his wishes. She still lets him know in her own way how she feels about him (ie the dazzling smiles, the wink at Muriel's cleavage comment) she's almost defying him in a way without pushing it... It works though! It keeps him on his toes about how he feels about her (ie the comment to Krum - he can't be with her but he's not letting anyone else have her!!) but doesn't get in the way of what he needs to do. He doesn't have to worry anymore than he does already about her or how she feels about it. JK's written their relationship beautifully, they know each other & how they're each thinking so well. They're perfect for each other!

As for Ron & Hermione, well, it's all in Harry's POV so if they're not being too open about it what more can he do?? His also got his own problems to burden himself with their relationship status! You could've hardly expected more action than we got really... I'd loved to have seen more but it's Harry's story & we can hardly expect Ron & Hermione to worry about their relationship while helping Harry.

I guess it just had to wait & of course, as the story unfolded, they had more stuff to deal with before they could truly get together (ie Ron's unsure about her & Harry & Hermione's upset that Ron left & goodness knows what else!!) After the wedding, Hermione's in no doubt that Ron likes her & has grown up about Krum (he drags her off to dance, is still a little jealous but doesn't harp on about but takes control). They've always had a lot more crap to work through than Harry & Ginny. In the end, it's up to Hermione to initiate it. Ron's bared all, probably tried to tell her he loves her, wants them to be together but he's screwed up again (first Lavender & then running away) so he cops it sweet & waits... And, just by being himself yet shows Hermione he's ready (the house elves comment) she just can't help herself!! Who could really?!? What a man, what a might fine man! ;-) Yay! It all works out in the end!

What does everyone think of this point of view?

^Perfect:flower: Esp when it talks about Ginny I see her the same way.

^_^Thanks.. then how come sirius mother and other people have portraits?? sorry...

I've been wondering about how people can get portraits on themselves like that. We can speculate -- but I really want to know for sure for sure. Hopefully J.K. Rowling will elaborate on that in the planned encyclopedia.

Anyways I thought it was all explaiend in the book but since I didnt read the book properly  I thoguht I'd ask .. Well I really hope we find out why too.. how they can have portraits.. thats really cool .. like being alive..:woot:

i can soo see that happening.

No one has said that Snape loved Harry, in my personal opinion (as own interpretations can be used) I think he came to care for Harry not in the showy way Mrs Weasley might have or like Ron & Hermione etc but just the fact that he was giving up his life for him, at Lilys behalf, shows that he was a decent person; you can care for someone without acting kindly to them its what actions you use that determine these things be it blatent or hidden. Why else would he carry on, send the doe patronus etc? Of course he cared for Harry. I know Dumbledore did too but I was surprised to see how he acted, I'm not saying that him acting 'human' was a bad thing at all; it was refreshing to see he was like everyone else and had flaws but in my eyes Snape came across better. I suppose I used to think Dumbledore was trying to save Harry from death, and when I saw (yes, even though it was for 'the greater good of the wizarding community') he had known all along Harry would die it shocked me, but I guess he knew that he wouldnt really die? I don't know, that part confused me but I'm re-reading so I'll be able to reform my idea about that.

I just finished it! I thought it ended perfectly...everything I wanted answered was...wow...

Before I read the book I kind of figured Harry was a horcrux and that would be the catch...but I was glad to see the loophole when Voldemort killed him...

The Fate of Hogwarts - What JKR failed to mention
Spoiler alert: This story reveals some key plot points in the final Harry Potter book. So if you've haven't finished the book, J.K. Rowling asks that you not read this story.

If you found the epilogue of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” rather vague, then J.K Rowling achieved her goal.

The author was shooting for “nebulous,” something “poetic.” She wanted the readers to feel as if they were looking at Platform 9¾ through the mist, unable to make out exactly who was there and who was not.

“I do, of course, have that information for you, should you require it,” she told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira rather coyly in her first interview since fans got their hands on the final book.

Ummm … yes, please!

Rowling said her original epilogue was “a lot more detailed,” including the name of every child born to the Weasley clan in the past 19 years. (Victoire, who was snogging Teddy — Lupin and Tonks’ son — is Bill and Fleur’s eldest.)

“But it didn’t work very well as a piece of writing,” Rowling said. “It felt very much that I had crowbarred in every bit of information I could … In a novel you have to resist the urge to tell everything.”

But now that the seventh and final novel is in the hands of her adoring public, Rowling no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter from her fans. And when 14 fans crowded around her in Edinburgh Castle in Scotland earlier this week as part of TODAY’s interview, Rowling was more than willing to share her thoughts about what Harry and his friends are up to now.

Harry, Ron and Hermione
We know that Harry marries Ginny and has three kids, essentially, as Rowling explains, creating the family and the peace and calm he never had as a child.

As for his occupation, Harry, along with Ron, is working at the Auror Department at the Ministry of Magic. After all these years, Harry is now the department head.

“Harry and Ron utterly revolutionized the Auror Department,” Rowling said. “They are now the experts. It doesn’t matter how old they are or what else they’ve done.”

Meanwhile, Hermione, Ron’s wife, is “pretty high up” in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, despite laughing at the idea of becoming a lawyer in “Deathly Hallows.”

“I would imagine that her brainpower and her knowledge of how the Dark Arts operate would really give her a sound grounding,” Rowling said.

Harry, Ron and Hermione don’t join the same Ministry of Magic they had been at odds with for years; they revolutionize it and the ministry evolves into a “really good place to be.”

“They made a new world,” Rowling said.

The wizarding naturalist
Luna Lovegood, the eccentric Ravenclaw who was fascinated with Crumple-Horned Snorkacks and Umgubular Slashkilters, continues to march to the beat of her own drum.

“I think that Luna is now traveling the world looking for various mad creatures,” Rowling said. “She’s a naturalist, whatever the wizarding equivalent of that is.”

Luna comes to see the truth about her father, eventually acknowledging there are some creatures that don’t exist.

“But I do think that she’s so open-minded and just an incredible person that she probably would be uncovering things that no one’s ever seen before,” Rowling said.

Luna and Neville Longbottom?
It’s possible Luna has also found love with another member of the D.A.

When she was first asked about the possibility of Luna hooking up with Neville Longbottom several years ago, Rowling’s response was “Definitely not.” But as time passed and she watched her characters mature, Rowling started to “feel a bit of a pull” between the unlikely pair.

Ultimately, Rowling left the question of their relationship open at the end of the book because doing otherwise “felt too neat.”

Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom: “The damage is done.”

There is no chance, however, that Neville’s parents, who were tortured into madness by Bellatrix Lestrange, ever left St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies.

“I know people really wanted some hope for that, and I can quite see why because, in a way, what happens to Neville’s parents is even worse than what happened to Harry’s parents,” Rowling said. “The damage that is done, in some cases with very dark magic, is done permanently.”

Rowling said Neville finds happiness in his grandmother’s acceptance of him as a gifted wizard and as the new herbology professor at Hogwarts.

The fate of Hogwarts
Nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts, the school for witchcraft and wizardry is led by an entirely new headmaster (“McGonagall was really getting on a bit”) as well as a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. That position is now as safe as the other teaching posts at Hogwarts, since Voldemort’s death broke the jinx that kept a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor from remaining for more than a year.

While Rowling didn’t clarify whether Harry, Ron and Hermione ever return to school to finish their seventh year, she did say she could see Harry popping up every now and again to give the “odd talk” on Defense Against the Dark Arts.

More details to come?
Rowling said she may eventually reveal more details in a Harry Potter encyclopedia, but even then, it will never be enough to satisfy the most ardent of her fans.

“I’m dealing with a level of obsession in some of my fans that will not rest until they know the middle names of Harry’s great-great-grandparents,” she said. Not that she’s discouraging the Potter devotion!

“I love it,” she said. “I’m all for that.”
