Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows *Warning - Thread WILL Contain Spoilers*

Yeah...I too noticed the similarities. I like to think of Harry Potter as a contemporary LOTR as opposed to the 'rip off series' many LOTR fanatics deem it to be.

I can't wait until the Encyclopedia.

Probably because I'm an idiot who still dosen't get that whole elder wand thing and how it pretained to Draco.

It was so damn confusing  My brother sat me down and drew me some sort of diagram

I think it goes like this (though I'm not brilliant at understanding this portion of the story)

Gregorovitch had the wand but it was stolen by Grindelwald. Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald and thereby obtaining the Elderwand. Decades later, Malfoy disarmes Dumbledore at the top of the tower, making him the rightful owner. However, Dumbledore was buried with the wand so Malfoy didn't really own the wand though he was the rightful owner.

Here is when it gets a bit confusing for me.

Harry disarms Draco at Malfoy Manner. Since Draco was the last rightful owner of the Elder wand, Harry (who disarms) him is now the new owner.

Voldemort decides to take the Elder wand from Dumbledore's grave but he doesn't understand that just to take doesn't make him the rightful owner because it wasn't obtained the proper way (through defeat or disarming, etc). During the final battle against Harry, he doesn't understand that Harry is the rightful owner and uses the Killing Curse.

Since the elder wand does not turn against it's master (Harry), Voldemort's curse rebounds.

I may be wrong on a few parts but the basic gist is there

So Gregorovitch -> Grindelwald -> Dumbledore -> Draco Malfoy - > Harry Potter

I have a question:

In the book before Snape dies and he says 'Look at me' to Harry, does he say that because he wants to see Lilys eyes one last time? Thats what other people are saying but I wasnt sure. In fact I was confused as to why he said it altogether?

He said it because he wanted to look into Lily's eyes before he died so yes, the first one

I just thought he was hoping Harry could see through him, so to speak, see that he wasn't all bad. But he could be looking for the eyes- only JKR really knows, I suppose.

Was anybody else totally pissed that no Slytherines stayed to fight for good? I'm sure there were students like Slughorn, students that were very ambitious and downright snobby, but not totally evil.

Hmmm...well, I think JKR has stressed the fact that Harry has Lily's eyes for a reason. I think if this scene was devoted to Snape yearning for Harry to see him differently (Though a great theory), Harry having Lily's eyes would be unimportant.

In the Prince's Tale, Dumbledore tells Snape that Harry has Lily's eyes, an indication that Lily still lives on through Harry. Snape never turned against Dumbledore because he loved Lily too much and wanted to help Harry survive because of that love. Everytime he looked into Harry's eyes, he saw Lily.

So it would make sense if he wanted Harry to look at him because he wanted to see Lily's eyes again before he died.

^^Yes! I can't believe it either that all the Slytherins were "bad" and children of Deatheater, I don't really understand why JKR wanted to show them all evil...

I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books...or seen the movies.... :ninja:

But all this discussion make me want to give them a try. I always carry books with me at school to read during breaks, so maybe I should start from Book 1. Even though I already know what happens. It could still be fun. :buzz:

I guess after the first few books I always thought Draco would play a larger role in the ending. He just sort of faded in this book.

I find the ending of the deatheaters (and slitherin) pretty strange. They really caused lots of damage to the wizarding world and hogwarts. Why were they seemingly just let back into society? Can't good characters punish the bad ones? at the end. I expected Slitherin to be removed from Hogwarts.

^I think the Deatheaters are not that strong without Voldemort, and some of them might got in Azkaban... it wasn't say they didn't.
Why do you want to remove Slytherins from Hogwarts? Most of them hadn't do anything really bad... Yeah they're against the other houses, but they're just childrens.

Jssy4eva give them a try! These books really worth for reading.

This book left a lot of unanswered questions for me.

-What happend to Draco?
-What happened to Luna?
-What happened to the Death Eaters?
-Why the heck are Harry and Ginny together?
-Why Albus Severus?
-Why do fools fall in love?

The list just goes on an on...

Top 3 Things That Pissed Me Off In Deathly Hallows
1. Remus and Tonks die... and we don't really hear anything about it

2. The Epilogue seemed a bit too contrived. Harry and Ginny AND Ron and Hermione? How many people seriously marry people they met at eleven! Some do, yes, but... seriously

3. I wanted a real fight between Harry and Voldemort, proof that Harry was a superior wizard, and not just a good guy so he HAD to win

Top 3 Things I LOVED In Deathly Hallows
1. Ron and Hermione kiiiissssed . Seven books in the making and it happened!

2. The whole deathly hallows thing was pretty cool, the story behind it

3. The Battle of Hogwarts was great, who knew that Mrs. Weasley was such a badass!

^ I know!! That moment, when he kissed her didnt Harry say 'Oi! Theres a war going on here!"

one of my best moments, I don't care what anyone else says, Ron & Hermione are the perfect match.
