Jean-Paul Gaultier Haute Couture F/W 2005.06 Paris

Hmmm, it actually looks a lot like his s/s 05 rtw collection, all of the tiered and patchwork pieces, which is bad because the whole gypsy/boho look is so over. I will have to see more, but I fear it may be a disappointment.

that green dress on Lily is wearing is gorgeous!!!

overall, a nice collection...though not my favorite

he generated the gypsy look anyway.. but i dont see this as gypsy, looks more central europe/russia to me

Yeah I think so too, a bit 'eastern European folklore'. Russia is becoming a bit of a trend, I also thought the Alexander McQueen menswear had quite a few Russian references. I love the collection and subtle colours though some things are a bit too theatrical.

Some influences from Yves' old (OLD) Russian Haute Couture collection, methinks...

all the head pieces and details are georgeous, like his sleeves:

the details are what took the show!

the one with the vividly coloured flowers at the bottom is AMAZING!

probably one of the best collection of couture this season i'd say

obviously there are some great details but i love a grand total of zero from what's been posted. i guess i was never a gaultier fan. ^_^

i love it. Seeing the pictures made me smile... His show looks inspired ,and therefore, original.... most of the other HC designers look like they are phoning it in to me. I can't even imagine how it will translate from the catwalk but I think his is far and away the best show I've seen.

I'm not too keen on it all, the 'hairy' fur has a tendency to look unclean in my eyes, and it's just been overdone a bit. Not into the tiered dress thing, I think I prefer a bit more tailoring in skirts and dresses. The orange/red patterned jacket looking thing that lily cole is wearing looks beautiful from the picture I saw, and I love the style of the green dress. Overall I really like the colours used, rich, dark and love the pom poms, and especially those equisite gold and cream headresses, but in reference to the garments themselves I don't find it that appealing.

Thanks for posting the pics :flower:

I was about to say that, there is clearly and YSL influence in his collection. Esp all the pleating, which was YSL's favorite techniques, along with the Russian pieces. Gaultier has never failed to produce a spectacular Couture collection, he's my savior when Chanel and Givenchy disappoint.

Look at the pleating on this dress, absolutely exquisite.

What happened to Gaultier's menswear? I was looking for it and it wasn't listed in the menswear shows and it seems no one has pictures of it.

Very Eurasia and very winterly. I think it's a perfect couture collection for these times. My compliments to the master!

I'm a little disappointed. Last season's ode to African cultures was absolutely amazing, totally innovative, beautifully detailed and very creative....this kinda lacks the creativity I think. I stand by my earlier comment that it reminds me of last springs rtw, it's just "wintered up" with the fur and coats and all of that.

thanks for the detail picture diorling

I don't want to be negativ about all this but it seems to me,very unpropriate to propose a Couture collection, when you know that almost 50 people have been fired from the so called "very kind" designer Jean Paul Gaultier....

The company JPG is in very bad financial position and to propose again a Couture collection means that he only do this to sell more perfume bottles.

So feathers and leather don't impress me anymore.

I thought that's why Gaultier got with Hermes? And why not use Couture as an advertising mechanism, Dior does (and it worked).

i also loved his spring couture´s ode to Africa, and this also reminded me of his spring collection, but it also reminded me of one of his first couture collections (fall 97), when i think he did Russian themes too, unfortunatelly, pictures aren´t available at firstview..., but so far i´m loving the details and ritchnes of it all, but also so far i haven´t seen those chic taylored suits he makes so well and that are also inspired by YSL.

^ I'm sure he'll do some suits, they've become a staple. The few pictures probably just didn't cover those.

I really can't wait to read Style.com's review and see what his inspiration was, because I do agree with what others have said, it does look very Eastern European, but with Gaultier who can be sure? He's always got a trick or two up his sleeve.

Maybe my first impression of this collection will prove to be wrong, I hope it is and that I wind up liking it because Gaultier really is one of the best couturiers working.

this is a truly haute couture.

ysl is presence in all of his collections, he would be the best for ysl.
