What a splendid collection he has created, with the exception of the shoes.
Wow what a great interview that was. Very intimate, feels like Karl is right there next to you. I really enjoyed it... I especially love how he graciously gives her the CD he is currently listening to, and adds "Don't worry I can order another one" haha. He is such a characther

I simply admire his philosophy. He seems to be completely at terms with himself, no matter what comes, what questions, what critics, no matter what idiots are writing about him - he just stands above everything.

Funny thing, he talks in German with a slight French accent, but he speaks English like a German without any French influence. Or at least that's how it sounds to me :-)

Yesterday Karl Lagerfeld showed a magical spring 2011 couture collection that included jeans under jackets and skirts, flats that shocked the world, and loads of masterful embroidery and beading, all done by hand, of course. In a Chanel-produced video, Karl discusses these highlights. The flats are supposed to be reminiscent of what one wears "on the beach," he tells the interviewer. The shoes were "like slippers but with just a little fixing around the ankle which is transparent." He continues, "I am getting tired of the way the girls walk in those high shoes. One saw a lot of it so maybe it’s time to see something else."
The interviewer then tells Karl she saw embroiderers Lesage and Montex welling up with emotion during the show. "I saw Mr. Lesage with tears in his eyes," she tells Karl. "It's touching, no?" replies the designer, who said he would never have the patience himself to do such things. "And Mademoiselle Pouzeux, who does the braids for couture," he continued. "She has a secret and she wants nobody to know. We cannot find anyone to work with her. She does it all alone. She only works for couture because she cannot produce enough for ready-to-wear. And no one knows how she does it."
As for casting Kristen McMenamy in the final look, which is always a wedding dress, Karl explains that he and McMenamy have wedding history. In fact, he walked her down the aisle when she was very pregnant thirteen years ago and was marrying Miles Aldridge. "I played the father of the bride because she had no family," he says, explaining that McMenamy actually met her husband in his car.
His last bit of wisdom: "Nonchalance in couture is very important. Couture without nonchalance is just drag queen attitude of women of an era past that I hope will never come back. Thank you for the fifties — I hope that will never come back."
