Yesterday, on a complete whim, I decided I wanted to take up knitting. It's so tricky. It'd probably work out better if I watched someone while they knit.
I hope I catch on soon.... soo many projects, so little time and patience.

anyone here do crochet ???
i made this shamrock... my crochet work always seems to curl up at the edges
Am I doing something wrong?
I used the instructions from this website:

I actually couldn't understand what to do with the first leaf--I just shoved all the stitches it needed in the 10-chain circle (2 per stitch, as I remember...)

I'm a terrible knitter, I enjoy it hugely once in a while and I'm just decent at it but I've only ever finished to knit one sweater so far.
I keep starting new pieces ... have a whole drawer with meters of unfinished knitting
I'd LOVE to try cable too but I'm useless with written instructions or even illustrated; I only get the hang of it if someone shows me personally. I think I might hunt down one aunt or the other and ask them to show me how it's done

i can tell you how to do that scarf if you are interested - it will keep your interest for a little while, till you get the hang of it.

Covering the Knit and Crochet Show!
I am going to cover the Knit and Crochet Show coming up at the end of the month here in Oakland, for a radio show on fashion that I am developing. The Show is The Knitting Guild Association's National Conference and the Crochet Guild of America's Regional Conference.
There will be various designers there, people displaying their wares, master knitters and crocheters - I'm pretty excited. I'll be interviewing folks and taking pictures.
I can't wait to feel all the luscious yarns and accoutrements...like "amelie", feeling all the bulk items in the grocery store.

i have crocheted a teeny bit...i find it rather confusing in comparison to knitting...but i think your tension is too tight and causing the curling. you might be able to block it though

well, we would all decide on a pattern we want to tackle, pick our own colors/sizing/details, of course, and then post pics of our progress, ask each other questions, cheer each other on, etc.....
people do this a lot with charity knitting, as well, like knitted toys for children, hats for newborns, blankets, etc. but we could just do it for the love of clothing, you know?
knitty.com has many many free patterns we could choose from, at various skill levels so anyone could participate. i have been in love with this sweater for years now and have yet to try it - it's on the interweave knits website...
any takers?

oh wow! that's beautiful! i'm currently obsessed with chunky yarns...finishing up a sweater i started last year....and remembering how to do cables again.

the motifs are from irish lace.. it's pretty easy. i was going to add shamrocks, but there was no space left
i haven't ever crocheted or knitted clothing before.. i'm going to stick to little things like this till i get better and then try a vest or something

here's what i've been up too....the red thing is a scark im knitting, a bit inspired by balenciaga's scarfs....i'm going to put beads and brass coins on it when it's done...it's taking forever though as it's like faireisles knitting ( i think) and it's fairly thin, almost sockweight alpaca yarn....
the green thing is just going to be a simple neck warmer, like a short scarflette...
and the black is just a swatch i did with some scrap bulky weight yarn. Im going to do a huge oversized neck scarf, either with a hood or not...haven't decided yet...

I have only knitted with fairly thick yarns so far, but my dear bf got his hands on a set of Rowanspun 4-ply (out of sale since 2004) in Midnight and Jade, so I decided on knitting the Isla sweater from Rowan's A Season's Tale...
I must be mad. This is like knitting with dental floss... thank god I decided against knitting it flat, so now I'm working the sleeves on a set of 2mm needles (like a sock) and will do the body on circular needles (also 2 mm)... then join and do the raglan part...
