Knitting!

for fingerless gloves...cut the foot off some old socks ...use the leg part and make a hole for your thumb...
Lol, thats a great idea! But isn't it still a funny shape? Does it fit as well?

I wanna try it :D

VOILA!!!...i have several pairs...^_^
:o
I've been doing that for years. But mostly with lacy tights.

Hi everyone,
I have some brilliant web sites for all those that want to knit. One of the best (and most famous) is www.castoff.info
They have a great message board and everyone arranges to me in various pubs or cafe's in London for a good "Stitch and b*tch" session. Last one I went to this really nice lady taught me how to do all kinds of things. One meeting was held on the Circle Line (London Underground) Everyone went around and around all afternoon chating and eating home made brownies and muffins and drinking coffee from thermoses.

Another great site is www.knitty.com This site has loads of free and easy patterns. The knitted uterus is my favourite.

You're right about wanting to do more stuff. I'm trying to work on a pair of mittens. I got a little tired with scarves and square things!

I have to knit at school sometimes. Few weeks ago I knitted myself a sweater but unfortunately it came out too big and I can't wear it.

I've been thinking of taking it myself since I began making my own fabric pieces. I love raglan knits and anything with loose yarns. That sort of one-off feel is great to me. Nothing perfect as I feel it takes the spontaneity out of it....and to me that's what makes it so fun.

Decontstructed granny chic,I suppose :P

Softie,I've been doing the sock thing too. I made two pairs out of military socks.

Have you guys ever transformed your old stockings or tights into socks? I got a bunch of my mother's old pairs and they look really cool when they're sliced and layered. You shred the top half and fold it over to the toe.

My knitting basically sucks. I wish I was as good as my mom, she does it so fast and it comes out so regular. I have to keep on trying. I've got a whole bunch of ideas in my head with patterns and designs for scarves, but I'm too lazy to try it.

Try to find some knitting magazines, fingerless are quite like mittens to make.

The bad thing about knitting is that it takes so long

I love knitting! I do both crochet and knitting, and although crocheting is faster, with knitting you get fabulous results. I plan to make a pair of legwarmers, a beanie, and other easy things (already made 3 scarves for friends).

Whats the easiest way to learn how to crochet ??.. from the looks of internet sites..it looks difficult like its something you need to watch being done in order to "get" it

A book or set, that I highly recommended is called "I taught myself to Crochet". It comes with 6 crochet needles, an afghan hook yarn needles, and other things. There is also a book called " I taught myself Knitting", which comes with 2 knitting needles, yarn needles, stitch markers, etc. I bought one for my friend from the Michael's Arts and Crafts store, and she loves it. I recommend those 2 books because the pictures are clear, and easy to understand. If you have problems crocheting, I would probably check out classes at Jo-Ann's or Michaels, or even your local yarn shop.

I just taught myself to knit just right after the holidays by buying several books. I do know what you mean by having someone show you. I called up a friend of mine who knows how to knit, and she corrected some of the things that I was doing wrong.

So you know what gave me my urge to knit? This website...: http://www.ceciliadebucourt.com. Click on scarves, poncho, shawls... they are all soo pretty! The best part knowing how to knit or crochet is making one of a kind items. :woot:
Anyhow, good luck to you!
