Knitting!

^

I really want to knit some fingerless gloves but I hate working on double-pointed needles... there's really no way around it though :ermm:

What are double pointed needles?
My mum taught me the hardest way of casting on ever! I did it the way I ahd seen on the internet and it was so easy.

i find scarves easy aslong as i can settle on a colour, width, length and choosing to leave the ends plain, with tassles or pom poms:flower:

I have been making tiny hats for smoothie bottles! Its for charity, I am not crazy. I want to make a new scarf though, I have made scarves in the past but I want a new one. The grey pom pom scarf is lovely. I want to try other things but I don't know what is easy?
how about playing around with your materials...
maybe add some lurex
or knit with two contrasting yarns at the same time...
^_^ create a new texture...

i've been wanting to start knitting too
so, i can just make flat pieces of fabric can't i ? i can just sew them together
i don't have to buy those double-needles..or the ones that are joined with a wire (to knit a tube)

Double pointed needles...

A real b*tch to use, IMO....

The easier alternative to double pointed knitting needles are circular needles, which is basically two short knitting needles joined by a piece of flexible cord. The first pair I ever used was one that I made out of a mahogany chopstick and plastic cord from an old craft kit in the basement because I was too lazy to go out and buy a pair  It did take me about 2 days, though, so it was probably the unpractical route...

I finished a sweater yesterday, actually, and I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out considering that I improvised the whole thing :)

And yeah, you can knit flat pieces and sew them together.

Has anyone ever used a book to help them learn or improve? I have looked through a couple in borders and I'm thinking about domanknitrix or stich and b*tch. Anyone used either? Or heard things about either?

any opinions between crochet and knitting ?

which do you prefer more ? ^_^

i heard crochet makes a heavier fabric while knits can stay thin

^^ Depends on the the yarn you use for each (you could make a heavy fabric with knit using chunky yarn on a tighter tension for example).
I love crotchet but it just takes longer to produce (for me at least :P)
I really like some of the effects you can get with crotchet that you can't get with knits. Also when I knit I use a machine, but as far as I know there is no kind of domestic machine to make crotchet..so it seems a little special. I saw the most amazing crotchet jumper in a poster the other day....I'll have to go back and find it so I can take a picture.

I taught myself how to knit in the 7th grade and have been knitting ever since. The problem is that I rarely finish what I start, so I have tons of unfinished sweater dresses/cardi's. :(

My favourite knitting magazine is probably knit1. They have the cutest designs. Not at all frumpy.

as long as the gloves are fingerless, you can knit them on one circular needle using the magic loop method. i believe there is a video on "www.knittinghelp.com". i knit fingerless gloves, thumb included, without using double-pointed needles and magic loop works great.

i used "stitch n b*tch" heavily when i first started to knit again in 2004. Vogue's knitting reference is also a great source of info, as well as the website "knittinghelp.com"

bumpity bump bump.. I'm on a mission to make a chunky knit cowl scarf!

Anyone done the same/have any ideas? I suppose I'll knit in the round so I need some bigger connected needles.. I only have small ones.

Inspired by yokoo (yokoo.etsy.com) and all her magnificent knit creations

I'll probably start with a smaller one, though.

You could make that with a really large pair of circular knitting needles or a set of double pointed ones, but I think it may have just been knitted normally and attached at the ends.
