Luminous, Glowy and Healthy Skin

ah crap thats all i eat but im rail thin!

ho hum...

any specific product suggestions?

I just got a glycolic peel and after about 4-5 days my skin was glowing.

what is the difference between a glycolic peel and a microdermabrasion.(sorry question mark isnt working in my laptop)

i know one is aha and one is bha if that can help to enlighten me. What are the effects of those acidsÉ(thats what comes out when i press the question mark key:()

Glycolic acid is an AHA, derived from sugar cane that is used in different strengths/percentages and pH factors to dissolve the desmosomes (the structure that assists in holding cells together) between cells to keep skin cells exfoliated. An example of a BHA is salicylic acid. These are more mild acids but cannot effectively penetrate the skin as well as AHA's. The reasoning behind that is glycolic acid has of the AHA family the smallest molecular size. BHA's are delivered into the skin more slowly. Aspirin is derived from salicylic acid, which is derived from willow bark and wintergreen itself.

So you have acids, which penetrate the skin's upper layers. Microdermabrasion, however does not penetrate the skin. It works on the surface corneum horny layer (the top layer of your epidermis). Results are achieved (and ideal results are smaller pore structure, lessened lines and pigmentation, and smoother texture) by spraying high-grade microcrystals, composed of corundum powder or aluminum dioxide, across the skin's surface through a closed stainless steel or glass pressurized wand. It's a form of mechanical exfoliation used by a machine. Glycolic peels are physical exfoliants, set to rest on the skin and the molecules penetrate and do the exfoliating for you.

When I was 15-17 I used a mask that I read in a homeopathic magazine about.

1 egg white mixed with lemon juice from one lemon. Apply to face and leave on for ten minutes and wash off.

It worked wonders for my skin.

BUT...

now I'm like "WTF was I thinking putting raw egg and lemon juice on my face"

Is it the acid that does something? I don't quite understand the science behind that. Thanks for posting, Black Orchid.

I think it is meant as a natural alternative to any acid you would find in face products that exfoliate dead skin cells.
I know some people who swear by it as well but I have very sensitive skin and have always been afraid to try it.

^ Basically... the way to be very healthy is to avoid anything packaged... makes sense if you think about it.

Break doesn't kill you... it just doesn't do anything for you. I couldn't give up my biscuits... spray butter and some biscuits... yum.

^OMG, who you tellin'! sounds good, makes me want an Auntie Anne's pretzel right now

:shifty:

But in terms of packaged food, i'd have to give up a lot. but i suppose it will be worth it & my skin isn't the only thing that will improve.

^ It's not impossible. After a while you sort of get used to not eating the bad stuff.

Though, honestly, I never see a difference in my skin from when I eat unhealthy foods and when I eat healthy foods.

neither ^ i think exercise and sleep make the biggest different. sweating is so good for the skin just as long as you wash it off asap.

Wow,really? It makes a huuuuge difference on my skin! And water is not enough.Vegies, fruits, nuts etc.that's what makes my skin glow

ditto^^^ when i stopped eating sugar and caffeine burgers chips fried foods and chinese i had way less spots and bumps. Water alone is not enough its true i drink about 3 litres a day, i glow when i eat properly allot of vegetables and fish.

i wanna try microdermabrasion though, im just worried about possible redness or even scarring? and would anyone get a home kit or get it done professionally i hope LetThemEatCake is reading this question too lol!:ninja:

I guess the thing is that I've never had skin problems - I simply have dry skin. I ate very well, worked out, and got a lot of sleep for a long time and I never saw a difference. I have pretty good skin overall - must be in my genes.

hmm I'm interested in microdermabrasion too...

well i heard vibradermabrasion is less abrasive but quite effective, i cant find anywhere in London that does it tho :(

I have really dull skin and it's a bit dry. Not severly, but still enough for it to bother me. Whenever I try to use a moisturizer (I have really sensitive skin) it makes me look really greasy or I tend to break out. And also some cleaners dry my skin out even more. Does anyone have any recommendations for dry sensitive skin? I need to find a good cleaner and moisturizer. And since my skin is very dull, do you guys recommend a facial scrub.
