MET Costume Institute Gala Celebrating Chanel

From Yesterdays Page Six
May 4, 2005 -- JENNIFER Lopez, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Oprah Winfrey, Gisele Bundchen and Naomi Campbell boycotted the Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night after their hosts, fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, had a fit over the placement of their table.

The hot duo backed out at the last minute, giving the old "something suddenly came up" as their official excuse. The real reason, inside sources say, was that their table was in the proverbial Siberia.

Dolce and Gabbana "were livid," an insider said, so they pulled out and called their guests, encouraging them to do the same. As D&G's table was set to be the most star-studded, Vogue staffers — who helped organize the event for its chairman, editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — tried to soothe hurt feelings by offering the $150,000 table for free, but the designers wouldn't have it. A rep for D&G declined to comment. A rep for Vogue claimed, "Not only was the table not comped, but Dolce & Gabbana very generously donated it to the Met to fill with other guests."

I love Hana's look and Daria and Gemma's the best of all.No wonder some awful celebs were there, they paid a fortune.Marilyn Manson sure needs some FASHION help;his disguise is so OLD and dull.

katie holmes was supposed to go with carolina herrera, but backed out at the last minute too...wonder if had something to do with her rash-thingy?? :ninja:

Is it me, or is Daria's look that night look just a little bland. Don't get me wrong she is absolutely beautiful and wonderful at her job, but maybe her hair or make-up didn't do her justice or the custom made dress by Chanel. I expected her to make a huge splash in the pictures since she represents Chanel.

Costume Institute Gala

OOokaay... this topic is going to take a heck of a lot of time, and work, and images, to put together, but it's clearly a necessity! We badly NEED a topic for this night. Just about everyone major in the fashion world, and vaguely stylish in the celebrity, seemed to be there, and it looked to be one of the gatherings of the year. Everyone from Selma Blair, Zac Posen, Jessica Simpson, Joely Richardson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Mary-Kate and Ashley, Emmy Rossum, Nicole Kidman, Elijah Wood... a truckload of the major models too; Karolina Kurkova, Gemma Ward, Shalom Harlow, Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, Hana S. and Liya Kebede.
I'm thus going to attempt to post pictures- but what I'd really love, would be for everyone who's interested, to also contribute!
My personal favourites, that I've seen so far too, were Selma Blair and Amanda Peet's gowns. Who did you love and who would you like to see more of?

My absolute favourite from the night; Selma Blair.
Her look is so individual, and dressed up still. Very classic and vintage, yet also very young. It's also great to see a departure from the "big evening" dress.

BTW.. was Kirsten Dunst there?
I checked, and she wasn't. :( Her most recent appearance was a literary event.
Apart from Selma Blair; some of my favourites from the evening:
Karen Elson, Karolina Kurkova, Raquel Zimmermann, Amanda Peet.

My favorites- MKA, Selma Blair, Gemma Ward, Naomi Watts, Melania Trump (liked her in McQueen), Jennifer Conelly, & Karolina Kurkova (She is one of the only people who could pull of that Victor & Rolf gown)

OK- Daria- looked cute agree with you jmp a liitle bland, Claire Danes, Alexandra Kerry (didn't like the print on her Proenza Schouler dress), Nicole Kidman- boring, but elegant,& Elle Mcpherson

Hated- Jessica Simpson- she looked scary in that tacky floral michael kors gown & something about Bridget Moynahan's outfit I really did not like

And is in US Vogue more than the models.

True! They even had that "style" section on her once...

...and why is she so important? Is she a socialite/dermatologist?? you can't be that important of a dermatologist...particularly as I'm sure there are quite a few in NYC...

 I completely remember that, oh gosh. I'll bet anything she's just a socialite who's actually got a profession. Either that, or her patients are all billionaires.

But Natalia Vodianova looked awful ! :yuk:
I know! And did you see her hair?

Thanks for posting the pics...

My Opinions ~

Naomi Watts - The dress was a great color that complimented her skin tone. Yet I didn't care for it very much. Perhaps if the front would have been more simple and the ruffles were just in the back I would have liked it more.

Nicole Kidman ~ I  Nicole's dress. Especially after I saw her going up the stairs to the event on Access Hollywood. The interior was I believe all gold. Really the picture doesn't do the dress justice (imo).

Selma Blair ~ She looks cute. Though I am not crazy about the dress. It's just very SJP.

Claire Danes- Not really a fan of the dress on her. But the pink shrug is cute.

Marcia Gay Harden ~ I don't like the dress. It looks very circus tent like.

Jessica Simpson ~ Ehh...I'm on the fence. In a way I like it, but then again not so much . I do like her hairdo though.

Linda Evangelist ~ Blah. It should have been cinched in the waist. It's just too shapeless for my personal liking.

Rachel Weiz ~ She looks very Stepford-ish.

Shalom Harlow ~ I don't care for the look.

Joely Richardson ~ I'm a big fan of Joely as an actress, and pertaining to her fashion choices (mainly). Yet this time around she just looks okay. If the flowers were just at the bottom of the train then I would have upgraded her.

Alexandra Kerry ~ She looks very nice. The hair could have been better though. Maybe in soft curls framing her face.

Natasha Richardson ~ I'm on the fence. Perhaps if it was the same style of dress in a rich red tone, done in silk fabric I would have just adored it (lol).

Carmen Electra ~ She looks nice. Would have been perfect if the dress was nipped in the waist.

Elle Macpherson ~ Don't like it at all. But she does still have a very pretty face.

Elisha Cuthbert ~ Nice makeup, nice hair...bad dress. Simple straps would have been much better.

Bridgette Moynahan ~ She looks really pretty. Her accessories however with that dress, I could do without.

Emmy Rossum ~ I would have preferred seeing her in something more youthful. But she does look nice, just much older than what she is.

Catalina Sandino Moreno ~ Beautiful.:flower:

Erika Christenson ~ Blah. She could have atleast put a simple red rose in her hair, put on some sparkly shoes & wore a simple diamond drop necklace. Goodness.^_^

Vanessa Paradis ~ I love the bottom of her ensemble & the choker. But she looks like she's on drugs. Not trying to be mean.

Ivanka Trump ~ She looks so much better with longer hair (imo). I don't really like the look. Perhaps if she would have gotten rid of the neck accessory then it would have looked much better.

Natalia Vodianova ~ Ick.

Margarita Missoni ~ Roar!! She is a Missoni after all. So she is forgiven for the pimp-esque print.

Donnatella Versace & Allegra Beck ~ *sigh* I see D.V. has been rummaging through Cher & Tina Turners old get-ups;) . Love Allegra's earrings but she is way too thin & her ensemble does nothing but point that out moreso.

Sheryl Crow ~ How about an...Oh H*ll No.

Stella Tenant ~ Is she about to milk some cows or something? Drab.

Lil Kim~ Kim actually looks nice.

Mariska Hargarty ~ She looks okay, a necklace would have done wonders for the look however.

Melania Trump ~ She looks nice. Love the bracelets.

MK & Ashley ~ They look so-so.

Marcia Cross ~ I'm a fan of her style (and acting) for the most part...but I don't like this look.

Vanessa Williams ~ I want to give her a compliment. Because I do like her & she's been going through a lot...yet there is nothing positive for me to say about what she is wearing.:(

Jessica Seinfield ~ Hmm...Nice bracelet.

Dita Von Tesse ~ She looks okay.

Anna Wintour ~ Lose the jacket & she would look really good.

Kimora Lee & Russell Simmons ~ I don't really like her, but I can give props where I believe they belong. So with that being said, she does look pretty. Russell on the other hand looks like a h.a.m aka Hot A** Mess.

Karolina Kurkova ~ Much Love Back To Ya (lmao)

Jennifer Connelly ~ Just no.

Amanda Peet ~ Love the simple hairdo that shows off her pretty face. I kinda like the dress. It reminds me of something I could see Kirtsen Dunst in.B)

Sean 'Diddy' Combs ~ He looks nice...like the majority of the time.

Hayden Christensen ~ Very cute.

Zac Posen & Raquel Zimmerman ~ *shudders*

Elija Wood & Liev Schrieber ~ Looking good guys.

Carolyn Murphy ~ She looks great.

Plum Sykes ~ She looks really nice.

Andre 3000 ~ Ugh!! Come on.

Tinsley Mortemier ~

I skipped quite a few people. Yet in any event my overall impression was that I wasn't very impressed. If I had to rate the looks in general on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 6.8...:innocent:
