Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Delivering flowers someone hates is a prank.

Yeah, if we were in the 1950's. I've seen far worse pranks to be honest, and I imagine it's never much fun if you're on the receiving end of it (speaking from experience here). But it's over now, no need for Gigi to prepare a TED talk. It's this guy's thing, by the sound of it. I don't think there were any malice intended. And I believe he also once kissed Will Smith on the lips? So Gigi got off lightly in comparison.

Secondly, this thread is called "model behavior" so can we please talk about models, not Kendall or Gigi.

As much as you hate them they are models for the fashion industry, get over it. They are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Don't be ridiculous  You may hate her but no one knows what is going through that deranged man's mind... and his actions apparently came from a place of hate, he was not trying to be funny.

Exactly! She didn't knew who he was and if he's dangerous or not.

That's not the point I was making.
Apart from picking her up he wasn't going to harm her. Grabbing celebs is his things, and even though it's disgusting it's nothing more than a prank and he's never injuring anyone.

So to answer that Gigi fan's question, he wasn't going to do anything after picking her up.

This explanation leaves me with a sickening feeling. How in the world could anyone know what his intent was ("he was not going to harm her") and can anyone seriously think his actions- if they go unpunished- aren't going to escalate?

So cute this guy doing "his thing" and pranking all over the place. Can't wait to see what he can pull off next!

Per a post above, this is what he did to Madonna. (Not sure why someone with a faux English accent would have a problem with hydrangeas, but anyway ...)

Groping vs kissing? Both are bad. However, what he did to Will was at least above the waist by a couple feet at least.

I really feel a bit tired of comments that indicate that just because a young woman signs up to be a model, and then gets famous, she should compensate for her apparently fabulous life by gracefully sucking up any and all abuse people care to dish out. She clearly doesn't agree with that theory, and neither do I.

I am with Fashionista-ta. A stranger on the street grabs you from behind and lifts you up, of course you can defend yourself.

If no malice was intended, you usually can't be punished, but self defence would be justified (seeing as Gigi couldn't know anything about his intent). This is true in most modern legal systems (if anyone cares) :)

Gigi had every right to react the way she did - what a horrible man. Why would you do that, it's an assault and should never be accepted. Good for her she was able to defend herself, but what where her bodyguards doing?
And don't even get me started on the Daily Mail and their report - the people who write for that "paper" are deluded.

This is even more ridiculous than the people who complained about Marc Jacobs used of "dreads" at his show.
She was not actually dancing on the video nor the spread... just fooling around. Not one of the pics of the editorial showed her dancing just posing...It just so easy to pick on her mainly because her half sisters are Kardashians.

Because I guess appropriating one's culture isn'that big of a deal

^ Honest question: in a globalized world, when does inspiration becomes appropiation? I understand using elements of oppressed cultures like black or native but in the case of dreadlocks, that are not necessary an element of those cultures (they have been present in ancient greece, Judism, Buddhism, Chritianity, Rastafari, hippism) how is that appropriation?

Thanks, zacatecas.

I guess this idiot’s purpose is to humiliate these celebrities…? I don’t care for celebrities, and the idea of crowding around them just for a selfie when they don’t know, nor care— and won't even know you exist a second later, is pathetic. But he’s awful: neither funny nor clever. What’s alarming is the mob of supposed fans and photographers— and “bodyguards”, doing absolutely nothing while this idiot looms over, and assaults this young woman, who is likely startled out of her wits for that brief moment. But good for her for defending herself, since no one else there bothered to aid her— just too busy trying to take a pic with her, apparently. What a bunch of losers. I have a newfound respect for Gigi’s scrappiness.

I hope someone knocks this idiot out, one of these days. That would be funny.

There's a special place in hell for "pranksters". Truly the most unbearable type to craw out of this youtuber/social media era.

And that excuse he posted is pure bs. He doesn't even care about fashion or what models are on the cover of Vogue, he just wanted attention and have his name on the press. Not that there's a valid excuse for grabbing people on the streets, famous or not. Good job Gigi for defending herself from this douchebag.

OK, I can concede he wasn't going to murder her, per se. But as far as what he could've done...there are plenty of options. Let's say he intends to just put her down, but in the mayhem, she loses her footing and sprains an ankle. Now she can't walk, she can't do her job, and she is injured.

While you can say he wasn't going to injure her, I doubt this was ever going to be a happy ending anyway.

Imagine a world where you're considered 'public property', making it fine for strangers to come up to you at any moment, and touch your body in whatever way they want. None of us would like it.

And taking it to the extreme, from musicians to presidents, its not entirely unknown for famous people to lose their lives when out in public in the US, whether it be walking down the street, playing a gig, doing a signing, or attending an event. Any place where interactions with strangers can occur always carries a risk of something sinister/serious happening. The risk may be small, but it's always there.

If she doesnt like to be a public property she better stay home and end this modeling joke. Its not even someone from the industry found her and asked to model, she herself and her daddy wanted to make a famous model from her. So now, babe, shut up and enjoy what you wanted.

I have a very distinct feeling that you are only saying that because you (very obviously) dislike Gigi. I think you will find that a lot of girls want to be models and have parents who want them to be successful. That doesn't mean they should be forced to put up with whatever people feel they deserve. The rich and famous should be neither above nor below the law.

Celebrity adds its own dangers, but in basic terms, it isn't right when ANY person is physically assaulted, either in public or in private.

Wait, are you trolling us? I am appalled that someone could genuinely think like this. Being in the public eye doesn't mean she is public property, are you serious?

It's opinions like these that perpetuate r*pe culture as well. "She wore a revealing dress, of course she got raped. She asked for it." It's sickening.

No. Women aren't *things*. This is never okay.

I´m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and think you meant "public figure". Not that it will make your comment ok, but the other option is so much worse.
Modelling is just a job. Like in every other job you´re going to find people that got to where they are because of connections. Get over it. Think of Stella Tennant or Lydia Hearst for instance...
I think that your bias is impeding your judgement.

Moderator's Note:

This conversation has veered off topic. It is not a place to discuss whether a model is entitled to her career or not, because she is a celebrity nor arguing with each other when you don't agree. Conversation should be restricted to her response (her behavior) to what happened to her.

I will be editing the thread to remove off topic conversation. Please stay on topic.

Thanks!
