Model Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

about that Doutzen thing I read this article (hope it's new to you)
and I think they are right

"So you admit it. You think you're really pretty."

Yesterday in the office, we talked about Doutzen Kroes, and why most girls don't seem to love her the way they dig Coco, Gemma, and Stam.
We decided it was due to one odd fact: Doutzen sent her own photos into the Dutch modeling agency Paparazzi, while the rest of the girls were "discovered" at concerts, or pushed into modeling by their friends. And for some reason, this bothers us.
But why?
Nobody argues when J. Lo says she can dance or Alicia Keys says she can sing. But girls aren't allowed to admit they're beautiful, unless they're the adolescent suffering kind on Oprah - certainly not if they're adults whose entire job is to be pretty. Just look at the Vogue story we dug up from 1993, where only Naomi Campbell admits her body is perfect, while Cindy, Christy, and Linda all argue their flaws.
In the fashion industry, acting as if you're unaware of your own beauty is obviously important for creating the right not-trying image. How many times has a model/actress bio read something like, “Her mother secretly sent in her photo" [Mariacarla] or “She tagged along to her best friend’s audition, but left after winning the casting agents’ hearts” [Gemma]?
We don't think everyone should sprint around, reminding their friends of how gorgeous they are. But still, isn't it strange that saying you're pretty has become a taboo?

well from my point of view , girls like gemma and coco are conventional looking so they many not have thought to send in their photos and at the time stam was also not conventional however Doutzen has always been very commercial and beautiful. SHe and Valentina may be one of the few girls who don't fall to this quote:

Elise Crombez On Models: "I think it's every girl's history where the most unattractive, tall skinny girls in high school [are] picked on, and then suddenly, [she] turns into the opposite. It's kind of hard to believe."

About Doutzen, she IS pretty. And she knows it, so what? I don't like Doutzen, but not because of the statement she made. Also I think her statement was taken out of context. She said she felt bad for making so much money solely for being beautiful (which is true, because she's not exactly a talented, versatile model). I understood it as feeling bad for making so much money for a simple task whereas so many people are struggling to survive.

Girls like Gemma and Coco are conventional? Since when...?

What Eugenia says is really ridiculous...brazilian models are still very strong in the high fashion.Caroline T,Raquel,Isabeli and even Bruna Tenório and Flávia Oliveira are much busier than her lately, just check their threads...:innocent::innocent::rolleyes:

It was already mentioned that she was misquoted...and if you look at when the magazine hit newsstands, the Eastern European girls had a lead on everyone else.

sad to read that a lot of people are jumping down Eugenia's throat too. She's a great model and more interesting than tons of Brazilians, though certainly not all. I always heard good things about her character... and everyone knows the Brazilians made all the money anyway :p

I see nothing wrong on what Doutzen said, it's true, she has great contracts commercial yes, but she's earning more money than some new underated faces walking just in some high shows while Doutzen it's beign known more and more and her ads are with her name
All models know they're paid for their beauty

Thank you LostInNJ. :blush::flower:

And at the time...like NJ said the Eastern European girls really took over. And suddenly too. Sure now there is a balance but still at that point they were landing all the coveted campaigns, all the magazine covers even US Vogue (Natalia), & ruled the catwalks. Like the Brasilians did before them. :innocent:

I agree somewhat with that article saying you're pretty has become a taboo. You can't say you're pretty it's just a real big turn-off. For anyone.

So true, but I dont get why, if the average person calls themself pretty nobody pretty much cares, but let a HF model with notable success say that, and it'll be another work war.

She was interwied in the São Paulo fashion week and she said the same thing but with diferent, less hard words..

This is just your opinion, everyone has different opinions and is free to express them...and to me sad is what Eugenia said...

The high fashion has a bunch of dutch and canadian girls and girls from many other countries besides the eastern european girls and the brazilians,of course. The brazilians did and are still doing very well and getting many US vogue covers too,you can't deny that...and Anna Wintour loves Caroline T

I don't want to get too off topic here, but you are taking what was said out of context. I don't think anyone here means that only the Eastern European girls were the only ones on the runway...they were the more prominent faces just like the Brazilian girls. As far as US Vogue covers, the last Brazilian model to get a cover was Gisele...models, of any ethnicity have been scarce on the cover of US Vogue for quite some time.

That has nothing to do, then Daria is European just cause her parents are Ukranian and Polish? No she's canadian
I'm sure some Eastern European girls have some other heritage, nowadays it's difficult to find a person who's 100% one ethnicity
about Caroline and Raquel they were born in Brazil their nationality is brazilian period.

Exactly. Seriously even if Eugenia said that, get over it. It happened.

And Caroline and Raquel are Brasilian. I remember someone saying can't remember if it was Gisele or Raquel about their German heritage. 'Yes that is where my ancestors are from, but my heart is Brasilian. I am Brasilian.' So please stop this they look more German or Italian then anything. Like mademoiselle_ said they're Brasilian period. ;)

How do you get to the conclusion that Alessandra is a typical 'Brasilian Babe?'
