Kendall Jenner wearing a burqa in Dubai... She should be ashamed of herself for doing that. This piece of clothing is not a joke and definitely not something you can wear when you don't want to be recognized.
As a muslim women in France, I feel very offended by this kind of behaviour. We put up with so much sh*t at the moment. I don't know if she sees that as cool but it's not. We are called terrorists by a big part of the population (even if we don't wear a veil, that's the case for me) and you think you can wear it like that? I was about to say extremely mean things but she's not worth it. She's an uneducated, racist, lazy brat who thinks the world is about her.
This family disgusts me, I lost all respect for them (I had little).
I usually don't get this upset except when it comes to my family and my religion.

Why was Kendall wearing it? I agree, unless you're wearing it in a religious country strictly to show respect for their customs/religion, there's no reason to wear it. Islamophobia is very real, and innocent people get harassed daily for being Muslim.

Just bringing this up reminds me of Gisele wearing a burqa to get that boob job in Paris sometime last year. It's unnecessary.

Being ignorant does not make you a racist. Being racist makes you a racist.

I am not sure if this topic is too political or not to discuss here.

I don't think it is the same as wearing it to get a boob job. I am no Kendall fan but maybe she was actually wearing iy to show respect for the customs and culture? I would have no idea that this is offensive and I was recently living in the most Muslim area of Paris (La Chapelle) for 2 years with many Muslim friends.

One time when I was younger and stopped at Dubai airport on the way to Europe with my family, it was 42 degrees whrn we left Australia so I wasn't wearing that much and I wad yelled at and harassed to cover up. The same thing happened to me almost daily in Paris, even wearing jeans and a tshirt. It is hard to know what they want from you...if you wear your own usual clothes you are in trouble and if Kendall wears a burqa she is in trouble. I cannot fault her here, I honestly thought that this was what you are supposed to do in Dubai in order to not be harrassed about your outfit.

Btw Aizanara I don't want to offend you at all! I just don't think she is racist and uneducated as it can be very difficult to know what to wear in these Muslim areas.

This a bit different from Gisele who was in France wearing a burqa to hide. Kendall is actually in a Islamic country where burqas are REQUIRED to be worn in certain parts of the city. No one knows what exactly she is doing in Dubai but she has been there for 2-3 days hanging out. She could have been attending a function where it was necessary and then decided to go back to her hotel. Many other celebs when they go to Dubai wears burqa (Rihanna, Selena, etc...) but because she is from THAT family she is going to catch the most hate. Heck I don't remember Gisele getting any flock for her burqa attire to hide her PS in PARIS. Kendall's visit there has been pretty low key, she had posted almost none on social media but she has to be smart and not pose for others, since people are always looking for a reason to hate on this girl.

A lot of people here regarding Kendall in the Islamic garb are somewhat misinformed about the situation.

She was visiting a mosque in the UAE where women (just like in a lot of churches and cathedrals in Europe) are required to wear modest clothing. The mosque likely gave her and her companions the garbs to wear at the entrance.

I have been to many Islamic countries and visited countless mosques and all my female friends have had to wear different types of clothing depending on how conservative the mosque is and what time of Islamic sect the mosque belongs to.

Also what she is wearing is not a burqa. She is wearing an abaya with a hijab. Not a burqa.

She hasn't done anything wrong in the photos other than abide by the rules of the mosque in the UAE and is far from racist, ignorant, or cultural appropriation. She literally would not have had a choice other than to wear the garb if she and her friends wanted to enter the mosque to visit.

This is DEFINITELY different to the Gisele situation where she literally wore it to cover her identity rather than showing cultural respect.

What I don't understand is why she's being singled out when Gigi, Devon Windsor etc was there as well!

^because people love to hate the Kardashians & Co and will click on any link that talks bad about them?

That was 2 years ago and they were indeed visiting a mosque.

Here the picture discussed is this one posted yesterday

So correct me if I'm wrong but she's doing exactly what Gisele did, which is using a religious outfit to cover her identity.
She is in Dubai where you have to dress correctly but you don't have to wear a veil, an abaya or a burqa in the streets.

^I´ve seen pictures of Gigi, Kendall, Selena Gomez and a bunch of girls visiting a mosque. I have no respect for any religion but I´m not a public figure, I think the way they´re posing is more controversial that what Kendall is wearing (Selena with her hands in catholic prayer?).

Gisele and Kendall are in different situations. Gisele broke the french laws when she wore a burqa in Paris.
If people are going to criticize Kendall for parading with her face covered when some women are facing anti-muslim attacks, they also need to consider how offensive her attitude can be for women who are forced to cover their faces.

This!!
Some women are forced to wear this, while Kendall just does it to walk around incognito. And even if she wears it out of respect, she doesn't NEED to take a selfie . She's just seeking up the controversy and attention, or she really doesn't know :ninja:

Exactly, if she kills a bee will appear on the news with a headline talking about how cruel she's with animals. People need to get a life, if she wants attention, people are doing the right thing bashing her.

I appreciate your mentioning that about the Dubai airport. Was this by the official 'attire police' or just the general population?

I remember reading a memoir written by a man about his aunt, who had been an ex-pat from their Middle Eastern country for many years. During a return visit she was harrassed by the attire police (I don't know the correct term--maybe they're just the actual police) for I believe a crooked hijab, and had a heart attack (or stroke?) at that moment that resulted in permanent damage. He considered it a tragedy, and so do I.

I know there are many reasons why Muslim women choose to wear some degree of compliant clothing--hijab, long sleeves, loose-fitting, burka, etc.--and I'm pretty much never going to know what that reason is. In other words, no doubt some women in some places are being forced to dress in a way they don't want to. Many others are choosing to dress the way they do, and I can't know which is which. Some activists, for example, choose to dress in a compliant manner because they don't want their appearance to get in the way of their message. In any case, no one asked me to judge (though I do feel strongly that every woman should be able to choose how she dresses).

In my own case, I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian environment where I was told what to wear, and I have very little tolerance for being told what to wear as an adult, and certainly don't want to encounter it while traveling.

It sounds like Kendall was wearing the garments she was issued, and chose to post a picture with some jokey tags--something she does all the time. In poor taste, perhaps, but just because she was joking about the garments being a great disguise doesn't mean that's why she was wearing them.

Kendall was not the one who actually posted the pic with the offensive comments. She took a photo with some CEO who I guess hired her for this appearance and he posted the pic with the #angelindisguise tag on his Instagram account, leading to the controversy. She, herself, had not documented this trip on social media at all probably for security reasons.

Didn't realise there was that new photo. That changes a lot of things.
It's Dubai...not Riyadh or Jedda where women have to LEGALLY wear abayas even if they're a foreign woman.
Kendall didn't need to wear that in Dubai in that case. She's at the Burj Khalifa where all foreign women would be wearing western clothing (maybe a bit more loose than usual) but western clothing nonetheless.
So not sure why she decided to wear the abaya and cross between the niqab and hijab. Kind of unnecessary.

^ I think it's a mistake from the dailymail. The girl arrested is called Svetlana Travis. Google her and you will see it's a different girl.
Zakharova is her middle name, so the idiot who wrote this article probably searched "svetlana zakharova instagram" to put more pics in his article, and now Svetlana the model is linked to this mess. I feel bad for her, because there are already people commenting on her pictures about her being in jail, probably coming from the dailymail article.
